Courtesy. Reliability. That's what I got from West Coast Tow. Here's the story behind my review:…read more The clutch on my husband's Honda Civic went out about 10 miles from the Mineral King Ranger Station, about 2 hours from Visalia. He was able to get to the trailhead and start his 3-night,4-day backpacking trip. Since he didn't have cell service, he messaged me via Garmin asking if I could find a mobile mechanic or a tow in the meantime. And thus began my odyssey. If the car couldn't be repaired on the spot, I'd have to get a tow anyway, so I got in touch with AAA. Set up the tow for a Friday. Then they called me to cancel because they said the last 14 miles of the road were unpaved. And they don't do that. Well, only the last 2 miles of the road were unpaved, but I was out of luck. Called a towing company in Visalia; it was a one-man shop and he didn't want to deal with the drive. Called West Coast Tow, and they were awesome. The woman on dispatch was courteous and efficient. Tow truck driver called me from the road to verify the details. And he showed up on time and got the car back to a mechanic's. Towing cost $850, but I was quoted about $200 an hour, so it was no surprise. Anyway, super pleased with how professional West Coast Tow was.

Waiting on the side of the road longer than planned with no update was frustrating. The bigger issue was the price. The total ended up being $37 more than what I was originally quoted over the phone. When I asked about it, I didn't really get a clear explanation for the difference. The tow itself was done fine, but between the late arrival and the unexpected extra charge, the overall experience wasn't great. I'd recommend getting the final price confirmed very clearly before agreeing to service.
