We enjoyed our stay here. Quiet property, cute and comfy. Very friendly front office staff. The space is tight and there's no real living room, but we had enough room for our group of 5. The rooms had window AC units and a fan in each. We had no issues with the cooling system at all. Location was also great, close to the beach, shops, and restaurants. They also offer a pool pass at a nearby property. Only thing I would say to pay attention to is that EVERYONE in the place must be 23+ unless with a guardian. We were all over the age limit, but the occupants next to us had to leave because some were under 23. read more

My family of 6 stayed here for 4 days this weekend. First the positive, the attendant Brandi was very nice and accommodating. Kitchen was stocked with dinning and cooking stuff but bring your own spices. Place was clean,soft beds with nice enough linens. Don't plan on anyone sleeping on the futon couch, very uncomfortable. Now the shoe drop. It was unbearably hot in the room. They have small window units in each room that are loud and don't work worth a damn. Middle of July over 100 outside crappy AC is not a good mix. If your going in the cooler months it's fine for the price but avoid in mid summer. read more

Let me start by saying if there were minus stars I would highlight them. These look really cute from the outside but once we got a key... It was another story. My first clue should have been that the dumpster was so overflowing that there were bags outside of it... And that was within 50 feet of a door to the "second" room they wanted to give us. When we went into the first room we immediately noted that one if the beds was not finished being made; no pillows and no blanket or bedspread, just sheets. Then when we opened the cabinet we saw a cockroach running along the back wall. Then we saw many little cockroach antennas sticking out the crack of the cabinet. Then I moved a cup to see if there were more little critters and the cup handle was broken off. There were no handles on the refrigerator and the refrigerator was blocking the second door. We asked for our money back and they are refusing to give it back... WHAT!!!! That doesn't even go along with their own policy! So sad that it is hard to find a good place that is cute... And to top it off it was all booked through Expedia! Now we are fighting with Expedia. read more

It saddens me to have to type this. After calling Double Barr Cottages to make reservations yesterday I felt it necessary to let ownership know how, long time, loyal customers feel about the rate increase.  As I totally understand rate increases, I don't understand more than a 100% increase in the wake of a disaster (Last year we paid $800 & something for 7 days in a trailer. This year they increased to $2,100 for 7 days) I understand they have an extra bedroom in them, but that is ridiculous. We only paid $725.10 for a Comfort Inn with continental breakfast, in Orlando Florida ( 1 mile from Disney World). I would think you would want your loyal customers to come back. But I guess not. Not to mention when I checked with Patsy to ask if the trailers would be replaced, she told me the rates would stay the same. I have even spoke to her several times since and at no point did she tell me there would be a this kind of a rate increase. My family has been staying at the Double Bar for 23yrs. And since our family has grown we have stayed in the 2 trailer every year for several years. But it's really hard to justify the rate increase you have implemented.  Especially since you were able to receive these trailer through some part of the government relief.   So in being greedy and grudging people as your doing you have lost long time customers, who referred the Double Bar to many people who stayed there.  We have decided for our 2 families to stay at a Airbnb that we were able to find for less than half the price and with a POOL! We will no longer refer Double Bar to others. Good Luck on whatever you're trying to accomplish. read more

I went here with my wife, two brother in laws, and my kids. We were here for 3 days and never got fresh towels or tp for neither one of our cottages. Not that big of a deal. The huge problem was after we checked out. I get an email that first of all was pretty rude saying that we checked out late. We drove out of the parking lot at 11:25-11:30. This was due to my family making sure all trash was thrown away and all sand was swept and cottages were very clean so the cleaning people didn't have to do extra work. While we were still there the cleaning staff walked into the cottages and found some Sandals in the kids room and brought them out to us. Everything was good and the cleaning staff seemed pretty happy as we left a tip. About two and a half hours later I get a email from management stating that the are charging my credit card for damages. They then send 3 pictures of big holes in the doors. Not in one cottage but both! These were holes that we would have noticed immediately! I also can assure you that if anyone in my family had knocked a hole in any of the doors or damaged anything at all that we would brought that to their attention and taken care of the issue. When we left there wasn't any damage to any of the doors and if there was the cleaning crew who went into both cottages would have brought it to our attention while we were still there. If you do decide to stay at this place MAKE SURE to take pictures of the cottages when you arrive and before you leave!!! If not you will probably get the same pictures that were sent to me sent to you!!! Every picture that management has uploaded on here has time/date stamp on picture. The pictures sent to me magically DO NOT!!! I have contacted the sheriff in Port A and I am disputing charges with my bank. Let this be a lesson you don't have to learn the hard way! We stayed there this past weekend. We were nervous because usually when we get hotels in port a they are a bit "used" feeling. We were actually shocked by how much we liked this one. It had a kitchenette (even though we didn't cook) it was decorated cute. I like that it had tile floors not carpet. It was a cozy little cottage. We will stay at this one next time, it's the one we have liked the best in the last 5 years. We did see baby roaches here and there but we always being raid. It's by the beach so most the hotel have bugs :/ read more

We stayed here the weekend of our wedding. We had cottages 1-4. The staff was amazing and really helpful. The are currently under new management and are working on getting things up to par. I couldn't have had us stay at a better location so close to the beach and so awesome. This is a beach town so if you need to be waited on hand and foot stay somewhere else! I lived it and so did many of our friends that stayed there with us. We will always stay here from now on. read more

Yayy the beach!!! So through the years I've stayed at cottages more frequently than hotels... mainly because I'm poor. So I warn you if you're planning to stay more than just a weekend, cottages may not be the best accommodation option for you. Double Barr has cute cottages, by cute I mean small. What else do you really need? A place to sleep and shower. Sounds like a plan. I've never seen a bug problem there, however it is the beach and I wouldn't be surprised. They have a stove and fridge, beds usually split into two rooms and a tv with cable. The air unit is always on before we arrived which is very nice. You might not want to close the door because then the nice cold air goes away. The last visit it was a bit weird as far as the arrangements went. We were to stay in the mobile home originally, however, right before we got there they had moved us into a two room cottage. I'm not sure if we got the short end of the stick on this deal or not. The price remained the same for summer/weekend rates though. The staff has always been nice and the only downside is the shower situation. I don't mind because I'm short, but the other taller guests have trouble with the tiny space. The water can fluctuate with pressure and heat control... I'm not sure if they are somehow connected with other units or not. Other than that, it's worth the stay..... read more

We loved the accessibility to the beach, and it was wonderful for our dogs! There were three TVs in the small bungalow, which the kids absolutely loved. However... The floors were sticky and black and there were cockroaches -- which the management referred to as Palmetto Bugs. Upon checkout (we only stayed two days over Easter weekend), we requested contact from the management because of the dirty floors and bugs. I left my email address with the person who took our keys. That person said "Well, we just sprayed on Tuesday," and when I told her I had found dead cockroaches, she said, "Only two?" Ick. I did not hear from management at all, and so Friday (we checked out on the previous Sunday), I emailed the management. I requested a 10% refund of $50.00 and was told that because I did not contact them within a timely manner, that they would not be refunding any of my money. I thought that $50.00 was a pretty reasonable request for having to wear shoes all weekend. Pretty disappointed with the customer service -- and pretty grossed out at the cleanliness. read more

They must have made some changes regarding the past reviews. My girlfriend and I took a spur of the moment trip down to Port A, and this place was great! We were able to get a room super early. It's a walk away from the shops, and the beach! Everyone was kind, and happy to have us! It was so nice, had music playing with the door open and enjoyed some drinks on the chairs outside. It's a beach spot, don't expect some fancy hotel s@$t it is exactly what you want coming to a beach town! There isn't doors in the rooms, but there is curtains so if your going as a group be comfortable with them.... Also my dog loved it! We read good reviews about this place, but we must have been given the worst cottage available. Ours was dirty, run down, and uncomfortable. The dirty linoleum floor looked gross and we swept up a huge dirt pile before we were in the place for five minutes. The couch was damp and nasty, the microwave looked like it was falling off the wall, and the AC unit was so loud we couldn't hear the TV with it on. We have a baby with an 8pm bedtime, so after that we had nothing to do since we couldn't even hear the TV. The shower was small and dark and we felt like we had to wear flip flops in it. We found hair in the drain when we got there. I cut my foot on the rusty old metal bed frame (there was barely any room to walk around the bed) and I think I need a tetanus shot now. Well, the peeling floor, stain on one of the beds, piles of dirty hair behind the bathroom door, the broken bunk beds and the general filth are what made us leave immediately. We kept hoping it'd get better, but instead we just found more issues each minute. We were a party of 4 adults, 1 teen, and two small children. I picked the place based on our occupancy search online and the pics looked nice enough and there was no notification or note stating a limit of 6. I selected the Deluxe 2 bedroom cottage. We left after enduring for 15 minutes and trying to talk ourselves into tolerating it but we couldn't convince ourselves to stay. We immediately requested a refund due to the filth and they are denying it stating we complained it was too small and that we had 7 adults. Not true. They lied to our face and then pointed to small print that stated no refunds after check in. Hmmm, seems they had this problem before and had to put it on their policy. Do not be deceived by the charming outside pics or what appear to be clean beds. read more

This place was a dump. If there was a way to leave negative ratings, I would give it to this place in a heartbeat. There is just no other way to describe how old, dirty and smelly this place was. The shacks they tried to call cottages were dirty, had no towels, the bathrooms had rusting fixtures and the bedding had God knows what the stains were on them. Beware if booking online, they will try to not refund your money when you get there and discover how awful it is. Terrible. read more

Very poorly ran establishment. The owners were rude. One of my family got stuck in their room because the door knob was jammed and with the windows painted shut and screws on opposite side of door we couldn't do very much. Staff came and tried to help but she was very rude and degrading. Then owner came after we got her out and he didn't even see if she was okay and or say sorry about what happened. And they charged us 100$ for putting a small hole in the door that happened while trying to get her out. The rooms were very small fits about 3 people. I would recommend that you stay elsewhere if you wanna enjoy your vacation. read more

We rented the cottages this week and we packed up and left, 3 days later and we made sure the room was clean and all was fine then I got a text saying we would be charged 50 dollars for damages we went back and looked at the damages and they had knocked the screw out of the wall where the TV mount was and the TV leaned forward didn't fall but the maid caused it she thinned on the TV who knows what she did don't trust these guys they did it the somebody else so well they are very mean I asked for clean towels and they sent them the there wrong room but they said they don't make mistakes lmao yes they did and we didn't get toilet paper until the next day we were there so the many mistakes for me read more

The online ad for the Double Barr seemed promising but the reality of the situation was entirely a different matter. We were given the keys at check in and proceeded to our bungalow which turned out to be little more than a modified beach swimwear changing house. The age of the building is unknown but the rusty bathroom fixtures and rotting window frame that housed a small, weak willed window air conditioner attested to a an overdue demolition. The temperature inside the room was about 82 degrees with a relative humidity of 90 % The scent that permeated the structure was that of cockroaches and musty wood. We tried to look for some good points to rationalize staying there after our long drive but further investigation turned up stained whisper thin mattresses and filth in the corners of the room The tube style television smelled of infestation as well. The back door lock was non functional and the bunk bed ladder was broken. When we tried to plug in the phone charger to look if there was any other available lodging in the immediate area the outlet was also non functional. We immediately went back to the office to tell them that we would not be staying and they said that they had a no refund policy. the policy stated that any problems should be reported immediately but no refund would be given after check in. I am not sure how one is supposed to deduce problems with the facilities before checking in but that is ' the policy' We were forced to consult with booking.com to negotiate a refund. When I told them that the room smellded like roaches they said that was not possible, they spray for them every Monday. Folks let me tell you you don't spray for roaches weekly unless you have a serious problem. Please take this as a warning to your family and friends. This establishment is below the standards of Oscar the Grouch. Do not darken the doors of the Double Bar. read more

One word: MICE. Sheets were stained. Bed was like sleeping on the floor. Thank god I brought my air mattress. Going to the bathroom at night turn on the light to see mice running to a hole in the bathroom. Not happy will not be staying again. Do not stay here. I booked a reservation here and was quoted a price and was put in the books, so I confirmed my vacation days at my job. When I called back to confirm reservations and give my card for half of price in advance I was told a price $300 higher. I emailed the owner but was told she wont honor my original quote. I been going to Port Aransas for 15 years and if you want a good honest friendly place to stay give Connie at Capt'n Dan's a call. She was full this year so had to find another place to stay but she has become a friend from staying there every year and will make sure I call her in plenty of time next year for a room. read more

I am very disappointed in the service. I booked a room on booking.com for a trip i was going to take next month. After i reserved the room i was informed that one of us must be 23 or older to check in, seeing that i am 20 i contacted them asking if it was okay for us to still reserve so if i needed i would cancel and go to a different hotel. They proceeded to tell me that, that rule was used for spring break and that it was fine for us to still go. Yesterday i got an email asking if we were all 23& up because i made a card change to which they took the money to hold the room. I told them that i had spoke to them a couple days prior and told them that we were not. They then canceled my reservation after receiving my email and told me that i was unable to stay with them. Needless to say i thought it was VERY unprofessional and ridiculous that my time was wasted in this. If this was the case from the beginning i would have booked elsewhere. I purchased a stay with this rat hole on Hotels.com thinking I'd be safe with this property; and boy was I mistaken. This hotel is the most disgusting place I have ever seen. We walked in the property, unlocked the door and could not believe how dirty the floor was. I thought I was in a West Texas honky-tonk because there was so much dirt and dust on the floor I could actually slide across the floor as if though I was on a skate board. One room had a door, but the door jam was in cracked and chipped it wouldn't stay closed and the other room did not have a door. The bed sheets were so dirty, they actually had mud on them (or so we thought it was mud). The kitchen stove was rusted out; the top of the refrigerator had dead bugs and dust. There was about a 1/2 inch gap from the bottom of the kitchen door and the floor, so roaches, snakes, rats and who knows what other varmints are capable of coming through the door are able to do so. The restroom was filthy and I would rather use a port a potty during an all you can eat Mexican food festival on the hottest day in summer that what they had in this cottage. There was a fist sized hole in the wall and it was patched up with a plastic bag from a grocery store that was shoved in the hole. Thank goodness I purchased this on Hotels.com because they took a $170 loss to keep me as their customer and booked me at another hotel. The hotel manager was rude and argued with me when I told her the room was dirty. I even asked her about the hole in the wall and said they repaired it with the grocery store bag and she seemed shocked at the fact that I found that ridiculous. Cockroaches...not cleaned for checkin...gas leak because of "pilot lights"... NO doors on "2 bedrooms"...My family (kids 4,2,1 and pregnant wife) tried staying here. no doors on bedrooms, gas leak, and uncleanliness prompted us to talk to onsite manager. We had booked 4 nights. After seeing the property we asked the manager what our options were. we were told we would be stuck paying for 1 night, but would be refunded the other 3 nights. We accepted this, and felt it was worth it to accept our loss of 1 night and move on. So we then left, found other lodging. Then later that night (after checking in elsewhere, and paying for it) the manger told us we would not be given any refund whatsoever. LIAR LIAR LIAR. It is one thing to falsely advertise a 2 bedroom unit (with no bedroom doors, b/c fire code wouldn't allow doors), but to have a gas leak is a huge safety violation. Then on top of that to flat out lie and tell us we would be able to be refunded, when in fact they did not - that is unethical. read more
