Hometown restaurant, I went to school in this town and grew up 13 miles away. Having lived in Texas for more than 20 years Mexican restaurants are hard to impress. Since most to the Mexican food places in Dallas are Tex-Mex this place is in my opinion a cross between authentic and Tex-Mex. various items on the menu that I've never seen before. Super service, pretty darn good tasty food. Good portions and decent chips and salsa. I've been here several times and had experiences that vary. Like I mentioned the portions are good the service always great. In my opinion Mexican food should have flavor without all of the sauces of cheese. These guys have really tasty cheese sauce they really like putting in things. Tonight I ask for just meat no sauce, no vegetables, just meat. They impressed me by bring a very nice portion of chicken that had excellent flavor, seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly. Exactly how it should be. read more

So we continue to try to keep our business local... My husband and I have been to this restaurant several times, and we are never impressed with the food. Tonight I ordered carne asada!!! How hard could it be? We'll the best thing on my plate was the salad, and I hate lettuce . My meat was full of fat and gristle. It was sooooo salty. I ate 2 bites. When I brought it up to the waitress, she didn't give 2 shits!! So I brought it up to the cashier, and he as well didn't give a shit!! My husband, who never complains, had 1 bite of cheese in the worst enchilada I have ever seen!!! Look, Bowling Green just because we live a simple life doesn't mean we need to accept horrible food!!! I am not hard to please, but I want so badly to enjoy a meal and get treated as a customer to an establishment that cares!!! And be surrounded by people who know they deserve better!!! We were on the way home from Troy, MO on a Sunday morning. My wife wanted to go to the Mexican Restaurant in BG on the downtown square, but it was closed. We pulled into the Dos Primos lot to see if they were open and the elderly woman on the bench out front waved us in. I don't think she spoke English. They really weren't open yet. But they welcomed us in, served us, and we were out the door by the time they actually opened. The food was good. I had a giant burrito with beef on one end, chicken on the other, and pork in the middle topped with red sauce, cheese, and green sauce. I had to drive 90 minutes home before giving the burrito the food nap it deserved, so be careful if you get it. read more

This was our second time to visit Dos Primos. We had the Chimichanga and the Dos Primos. Absolutely amazing. The portions were great. Hubby had the Dos Primos (2 smaller chimichangas) - finally found one here in Northeast Missouri that he liked. They were stuffed with seasoned ground beef and smothered in this silky amazing queso. I had the chimichanga filled with fajita beef and veggies. It was quite tasty - also smothered in their silky queso. Props for their chips and salsa...their salsa is delicious. Will definitely go back. Bringing friends with us next time - I just do not plan to share my chips and salsa with them. lol read more

Stopped for dinner when traveling. Asked the server for suggestions as their menu is very extensive. I took one of the suggestions and was very disappointed in the quality of the meal. The meat was very dry and tough. Tortillas were not warmed. Feel like they were taken directly out of a bag and placed on the plate. The food looked good just didn't taste as good as it looked. The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa and that just shouldn't be the case. read more

Last time I was here we had 5 different people serving us and no one could give us our check. To me whether you consider Dos Primos a good restaurant or not depends on whether you live in or grew up in Bowling Green, or whether you are passing through and are from an area with truly wonderful choices for Mexican restaurants. To set up this review, I grew up in Bowling Green and lived there for the first 20 years of my life roughly before moving to St. Louis. Growing up in that timeframe, our eating choices for most of that time were limited to A&W (which closed), Dairy Queen, Caseys and a couple other american dining establishments. So if that is your experience or if you live in Bowling Green, I think Dos Primos is (A) your only Mexican choice within miles and miles worth noting, and (B) a good value and product for the money. If you are from St. Louis or areas with killer Mexican choices, or if having healthy non-greasy food is your thing, Dos Primos will not rate high on your list. The decor is very cool and there is nothing like it in the area. Reminded me of St. Louis establishments and I had high hopes upon walking in. The service was quick, and a healthy sized menu was available. Sun Drop on tap so I loved that! I had the #4 beef burrito, beans and rice which was good, not superb. More cheese or red sauce so that I could mix it with my rice, which was otherwise a little dry. The chips were good and I felt the salsa was mildly spicy but others at the table said it tasted "catsupy". However all agreed the cheese sauce with jalapeno bits in it was excellent. Great Mexican Food in a small Midwestern town. I have eaten here many times and being from Texas, I would definitely classify this as good Mexican food. I am in fact married to a girl from Mexico and she loves the place. That being said, the food is amazingly good! The salsas are actually spicy like they should be. The margaritas are great! The staff is friendly and attentive! The prices are very reasonable. Whenever I am in town visiting relatives (once a year), try to eat here at least two different nights. This is definitely a gem of a restaurant in Bowling Green Missouri! Oh, and the comment about the food tasting like Chef Boy-R-Dee, you must be a Pike county redneck meth user. read more

On our way to St Louis. This was a good choice for cheap Mexican. There is a grass park across he street for the kids to run around in. This restaurant has changed locations and no longer allows smoking--a huge plus for me. My husband and I eat there at least once a week, but to have the best experience go beyond the basic Mexican staples. The portions are large, the food has a good flavor, the food comes out fast, and the prices are reasonable. So it's your typical Mexican restaurant. Some other people have complained about the food being too greasy. The chicken was not greasy at all. The chorizo was slightly greasy, but I didn't think it was greaser than any other Mexican restaurant. If I'm in the area again and I have a craving for Mexican food I will definitely stop back in. read more

My cousin and his wife live in Bowling Green, and we make a point of going to Dos Primos every time we visit from California. In fact, we try to go there as often as we can. They have a dish with prawns that I absolutely love, and there isn't another restaurant that makes anything like it. Everyone is friendly, and they have a very nice atmosphere. Are there better Mexican restaurants in the city - yes - but for Mexican Cuisine in a place the size of Bowling Green, its very good! Try the Cheese Dip with your tortilla chips. Horrible! No vegetables (e.g. grilled onions or even pico de gallo) with tacos. Chile rellenos was stuffed with an insipid, soupy ground beef paste, instead of cheese, as it should have been. Tamale was burned on the bottom and smothered with a tomato-y flavorless sauce and clumps of tasteless ground meat, instead of the expected spicy brown sauce. Ate the beans and rice - but they could easily have come from a can. Considering the other reviews, either the chef and/or owner has changed, or someone in the kitchen is trying to sabotage the place. Don't even think about eating here! read more

Great food and nice Mexican restaurant, that is, if you are a smoker. Ex-smokers beware! Get take out! If they go smokeless, they will have more business and be rated 5 stars. Again, food is great, but if you don't smoke, or are an ex-smoker, not the place for you. Smokers "haze" is awful! And you have to walk thru this to get to the poorly ventilated, windowless, non-smoking section. Could be they have all the business they want from smokers, but not ours. read more
