Besides having problems with the tuning,he'd tell us that he couldn't fix a dead key because he couldn't do that particular work, and that it was a huge job and would cost lots of money etc. Granted, we didn't do the ideal tuning every six months that you should do to keep it up. I discovered Gary's service while I was Christmas shopping at Sam Ash for my daughters. They had his business cards sitting on the counter, and I noticed that it read "Piano Tuning & Repair" which I thought was ideal. I asked the salesman there and he said that everyone liked Gary's work, and he came highly recommended. The first time he came over he not only expertly tuned the piano, but also fixed two bad keys on the spot for a reasonable charge. That was about 5 years ago and he has done our tuning and service ever since. Once you meet him you will instantly know that a) he is professional - easy to schedule and always on time, b) he is extremely knowledgeable and exudes confidence c) he is honest and he's not just looking to make a fast buck off of you. My daughter, who plays it, is absolutely thrilled at what he has done with her piano.

We were going to another shop for the first few months of the school year and that was turning into a disaster as the teacher was inconsistent and had difficulty showing up for our pre-arranged time slot (he was coming in from "the city" to Deerfield and always had an excuse due to train problems) This made me search out a new place and I found Anderson Musik almost by accident. It's an extra few minutes drive to get there, but worth it in my opinion. Our current instructor, James, is fantastic! We love him! He is great with my son. He gives him a lot of encouragement, challenges him with new assignments and has the patience of a saint from what I can tell. Very Zen. Plus, he is ALWAYS ON TIME!! (he even spends extra time with my son if he has a cancellation after our time or we get there early, which is fantastic) As for the shop, the owner (I think) Elsa is fabulous. Very friendly and chatty, she makes sure that there is always fresh coffee brewing and some type of baked good to keep the siblings happy along with lots of magazines and coloring supplies to make the waiting time fly by. It is clean and friendly. I love this shop so much that I am going to send our other son there for trumpet instruction this coming school year, as well as rent his instrument from Anderson Musik (say goodbye to that other Deerfield shop!)
