This is a family friendly membership only facility that provides venues for firearms, fishing, and…read morearchery. It hosts individual activities, team competitions, training (both individual and organizations) and social events. There is a dining room with bar, small pro shop (no firearms sold), a fishing dock, and patio with fire pit. There is a primary and intense emphasis on safety, and a collegial membership that will remind each other on lapses of judgment all very friendly and helpful. There is a .22LR only range, a shotgun patterning range, 5000 yard distance range, 200 yard, and 100 yard rifle ranges. There are separate pistol ranges (pistols are not allowed on rifle ranges). There is a clay sports area allowing users to practice individually as well as hosting competitions. The 300 acre facility is heavily bermed, and there are strict rules on target set up and aiming practices. Access to the facility is card controlled. Members can access 365 days a year, but shooting is daylight only except special events. There is a family dinner every Thursday. The pro shop is open then and on weekends. The owners are very involved and go above and beyond to be available to the members. There are part time staffers that help with details, questions, and tech support on equipment. Rental carts are available as the roads are dirt and areas around some of the ranges are slippery for cars and trucks. Overall membership is capped to preserve quality of experience for all members. All prospective members must attend a thorough orientation. Members may bring guests which is a great way to see the facility. The only facilities like it in the area are Forest City Gun Club (shotguns only, members only) and the Richmond Hill WMA (open to the public but lacks the variety of ranges and the club facility.

I'm kind of disappointed in their service. I brought in my WWII Mauser k98 that had been…read moresportarized previously to get fixed. I talked to them and made an appointment about 5 weeks out so I could drop the gun off and have a somewhat reasonable turnaround time. I guess this was lost on them because when I dropped the gun off, I was told it would still be weeks before they could get to working on it. I was slightly annoyed about that since this was the whole reason in waiting to drop the gun off, but whatever, there busy and I get it. When I initially spoke with them and when I dropped the gun off, I was clear that I wanted wooden dowels inserted into both pieces of the stock and the remaining gap filled to make it a solid piece again. When I come to pick it up it looks like a terrible fix in my opinion and they said they inserted metal slivers (like nails) into both ends and epoxied them. I was not very happy about this fix, but when I questioned them about this, they said they believed it to be the best course of action to fixing it. It looked very cheaply done and flimsy to me, the stock actually bends at the separation when the front band is not in place to secure it to the barrel, but the "fix" was already done and they supposed to be professionals so I let it go. I also asked about having the wood touched up slightly to blend a light-colored spot from where the stock had been taped together for years, but it was not done and when I asked about this upon pickup, I was told how to do it myself. Again, I was slightly annoyed, but I just wanted my rifle back so I didn't push the issue. The thing that really upsets me though is after getting back home and looking the rifle over a little more closely you can clearly see where when they were trying to fix the rifle the front band was pushed too far down onto the barrel/stock and gouged the wood on either side. And then to get the front band back off it looks as if a mallet or something was used to hammer it back off and damaged the front band along with put a small gouge in part of the barrel. I have attached an older picture of before the "repair" was done and it is slightly blurry zoomed in, but you can clearly see the gouges were not there. I would highly recommend taking your rifle somewhere else if possible

In an attempt to write an informative review about Forest City Gun Club, I discovered an interesting history! *A group of Dutchmen founded FCGC in 1873. *They tout it is the oldest, largest continuously operated skeet, trap and sporting clay club in America. *FCGC boast 26 fields, a 40 acre lake, grand club house, dining hall, an assortment of amenities and over 537 acres. *Prestigious competitions have been hosted here: International Skeet Shooting Competition (5x), World Shoot Championships, Buick Masters Skeet Shooting Championships, U.S. Open Skeet Championships, and Georgia State Sporting Clay and Skeet Championships. *Home of FCGC Juniors which is a competitive shooting team. They compete with other youth shooters in the Scholastic Clay Target Program. *Find a wide assortment of gear, shells, apparel and gun rentals in their Pro Shop. *Membership is "managed by perpetuity and guest may visit during tournaments, fundraising or private events".

This is part of a region where the sea islands are not developed and there isn't really any ocean…read morebeach access. The wildlife refuge, like a lot of land in the area, used to be a plantation and was converted into small farms after the Civil War. More surprisingly, it also used to have a WWII-era airfield. This means that much of the reserve is actually paved because its the remnants of said facility. The signs of the park's pastoral era are less evident, but an isolated stone fountain hints at the mansion that once occupied the area. Now the place is consumed with Spanish Moss and various tropical plant life. There is a loop which offers some waterside access. It isn't exactly prime tourist territory, but this is a wildlife refuge and not a park, so if you go in expecting something touristy you're in the wrong place. I did not see any alligators, but coming during the winter also meant that I wasn't swarmed by bugs, which is often the case around these parts. But for the hardy adventurer, this is an intriguing site.

The paths are well maintained and flat, so you can easily spend a few hours walking around and enjoying the scenery. Highly recommend!
