Nestled on the edge of Historic Summerville, the Azalea town in the pines, the Timrod Library is an…read moreactual treasure chest of both history and wonder. Filled with books that celebrate history, current novelist favorites, children's selection, and a quiet space not yet tarnished and overrun with technology, the Timrod is perhaps the best Library I have encountered yet. It's enough to make anyone re-discover and fall in love with Libraries as they were once intended- a peaceful space to educate oneself and dive into both new and old perspectives. The smells of the old 1915 home make you feel blessed to even be amongst such information that can both educate and open your eyes. Open from 10-5 daily, the fee for membership at this nonprofit is only $25 a year. This type of non profit is a great reminder that not all are the same- the money from membership goes to being able to maintain the site rather than go directly into someone's pocket. Of course you're free to spend time learning complimentarily, but once you set foot inside and are open to all it has to offer, needless to say, I wanted to give more so that this special place can continue to exist and thrive. Did I mention T-shirts. You simply must go. The staff are all wonderful people to care about people and their work. Cindy, Carol, Connie, Louis, Barbara .... these women are pillars of examples of grace and encouragement. Am so happy the Timrod is here, has been here, and better continue to be! Much love, your woman and faithful forever patron, Natalie

I've never been a student, faculty member, or administrator at CSU. Only you (or your high…read moreschooler) can decide if CSU is the right college for you, so I'll just share my experiences from a visitor's perspective. I visited CSU to work a track meet and had a great experience. The outdoor areas of the campus and athletic facilities are impressive, especially for a school of this size. The football stadium is modern and the track is finished for all events (including the steeplechase, with barriers and a water pit). All of the student athletes I interacted with were pleasant, polite, well-mannered, and had good sportsmanship. The student body seems diverse- many states and several other countries make up the sports teams. The coaches and administrators were also welcoming to the timing crew, track officials, and other competitor colleges/coaches. If you're visiting CSU, several hotels are conveniently located just blocks from the campus, including Wingate, Fairfield, and Hampton Inns. I would recommend staying in one of those hotels because downtown Charleston is about 20-25 minutes down I-26.

Our Guides were knowledgeable & wonderful communicators for the tours we selected for our visit. The history of Middleton Place is fascinating & the relationship the Middleton owners had with the French botanist , André Michaux, is well documented & at least one of the four camellias of the "Reine des Fleurs" variety he brought to the plantation, in 1786, still survives in the gardens today. The grounds , during the off season ( February ) were well maintained. And there were still some flowers to be enjoyed on the camellias. It was quite chilly as the plantation is next to an inlet to the sea, so if visiting in winter wear appropriate clothing as tour is mostly outside. We did enjoy the onsite restaurant as well - serving a 3 course meal with selections that meet most diners palates. Our highlights included visiting the stables & getting a true historical & respectful description from one of our guides on the slave period experienced at Middleton Place. Every cent worth price of admission especially when bundled with lunch.

There are signs visible to help guide you to the parking lots. Plenty of accessible restrooms throughout the property. I attended the Meet the Breeds tour and Beyond the fields tour. Both tour guides were friendly and very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the beyond the fields tour, highly recommend! I also partake in a few activities that were going on in a stable area such as candle making and pottery. There was a market, gift shop, a restaurant. Overall, it was such a wonderful outing! I enjoyed it greatly and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun filled day of beautiful nature sights and wanting to learn about the history of the plantation.
