I work for a Local Catering Company and We cater all of the OU Football Games (at the track and field stadium) for approximately 1,500 to 2,000 Fans pre game. When the kick off time is early we do a breakfast style menu and we have always Ordered from Donut King. This morning the Boss and I showed up at 2am to get the 2,000 donut order! The Gentleman that was working was just a Rock Star! had our order ready (Boxes stacked carefully everywhere). helped us load them just a great guy. So my job today was to make sure that I kept our two tables of donuts full for the guest. I have to say that everyone commented on how absolutely Delicious they where and where in the heck did we get them! Wow! Who knew there are SoCal-quality classic donuts right here in the heart of Norman? They cook fresh donuts 24/7, but their selection is limited at night. Around 9 pm, sadly they were entirely out of their popular (extra-) filled donuts. Donuts $1 each or $5.49 for 1/2 dozen -- we tried their Old Fashioned, Apple Fritter, Honey glazed Chocolate cake, blueberry cake, rainbow sprinkled regular glazed and a chocolate glazed. Half of them were still warm! All were delicious and perfectly cooked. None heavy, greasy or overly sweet. "Sourdough", or Old Fashioned as many know it was huge, had good flavor, was so fresh, soft inside while crispy out. My husband's favorite donut, it got two big thumbs up. My chocolate glazed regular yeast donut had perfect pillowy density with just the right chew and flavor in the dough. It was lovely. Cake donuts again not too sweet or dense, perfect soft cakey texture. Blueberry full of true blueberry flavor. Chocolate cake also very good. Apple Fritter was unlike any I've ever had -- on the flat side and dense, moist inside, kinda crumbly (not as fresh as others?), smaller than typical but priced the same as a regular donut. Flavor was excellent! Overall, there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. They really do know their stuff here. We didn't try their other prominent menu item, concrete frozen custard. Next time. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, aging, with faded signs and posters hanging from the counter. The seating area rough around the edges. Their late night staff are some rough characters. Gruff and short with customers and not at all helpful or friendly. After telling him it was our first visit, he just walked off into the back, no suggestions or input whatsoever, leaving us alone to decide. I later watched like a hawk as he grabbed each donut with a small paper square in his bare hand. While an older fella (owner?) kept wandering in with no mask on during Covid. I took off one star for all that, shaking my head and yet understanding the complexity of the issue. I do wish they had French crullers, but nobody's perfect. read more

The donuts here are so good and they have a great selection. Best of all, they have gluten free donuts which made me really happy cause it's so hard to find. The lady running the register was very kind and patient as I took my time picking out what I wanted and the prices are very reasonable. Best donuts in norman! I haven't tried a donut that I didn't like from Donut King. The Boston cream is my favorite. The apple spice and lemon filled are also outstanding. They are open late, which is perfect for a college town. The donuts are always fresh. The outside has a little crisp to it and the inside is fluffy like a cloud. Ok so first of all the customer service was lacking. We ordered at the drive thru to someone who clearly felt like they had better things to do, at some point they just stopped replying to us so we waited and eventually pulled up. Waited a few minutes and thought maybe they had forgotten us and then someone finally walked to the window with what we thought was our order. She charged us and I drove off to realize the two sausage donuts I ordered were missing. Went back and she charged us again for the missing food and gave us them which she said had been sitting in the microwave. The donuts are..awful. They're not light and airy at all. They taste like old grease. The bagel sandwich tasted off. Definitely the worst donuts I've tried in OK so far, the ones at 711 are actually better. Donut King is as Norman as the University itself. Its been around for almost 40 years and it's family owned and operated. The donuts are freshly made daily and the coffee is always hot. It used to be a Dunkin Donuts franchise back in the day but in the 90's the family who owned it decided to stop paying the excessive franchising fees and go it on their "own", so if you notice a lot of similarities to the menu with Dunkin that's why. However the menu is where it's similarities end with Dunkin as I have never been to Dunkin and received service half as good or donuts half as fresh & delicious as Donut King. Donut King isn't going to win you over with being fancy or hip but if you are looking for a good donut and good service from a good locally owned family business then Donut King is the spot and any true Normanite will tell you that. (Also, they'll mention Pizza Shuttle. But that's a separate review.) read more

I'm a fan of their Boston Cream filled with loads of Bavarian cream, they don't skimp on filling their donuts which makes them so delicious! I'll start with the service, pulled up to the drive thru and the speaker let out a cackle so we just assumed they were ready and placed our order then another cackle. Likes: It is open 24 hours, and if you go in the morning like most people, there's usually a very nice Indian (from India) lady who gives great service with a good attitude. If you're nice too, she'll often pack a couple extra goodies in your bag for you at no charge. There is a diverse selection of flavors - far more than at any chain. My favorite is the chocolate honey-dipped, which is somewhat cake-like but glazed on the outside and full of chocolaty goodness! It's never too busy, though there's steady business. I've seen local athletics-related celebrities grabbing a couple dozen to go, and when I was in college, the best professors would bring them in for the class. Dislikes: I'll agree with another reviewer that the place does not look that sanitary, but it's not terrible on that front.
