When I stepped into Donut King, my initial reaction was: "what the...pho...?" No, seriously, apart from donuts, this little shop in Kamloops also offers Vietnamese staple foods such as beef pho and veggie rolls. I was so amused by the odd combination, I couldn't help but to impulsively order a coconut donut, a mug of hot chocolate, and a $9 bowl of pho. Having enthusiastically eaten through half of my meal, it then hit me: their food is mediocre at best: - the hot chocolate came out of a machine and was WAY to sweet - the pho was rudimentary in ingredient and flavor - the donut was the saving grace of a mediocre and overpriced meal A brief conversation with the owner revealed that he was fed up with the nearby Tim Horton's serving unhealthy manufactured donuts from Toronto and thus he decided to live for what's noble by making his own donuts. RESPECT...but I'm giving you 3 stars.

Great service food and great prices. Wouldn't change a thing oh and they have beer and happy hour. Home made chili oil is the bomb.

This might be the most random place for this restaurant but the Pho is amazing. Would give 5 stars if it was a bit cheaper.

OVERALL: 7.9/10 (Yelp Converted Score: 4/5). My partner and I were passing through, and wanted to…read morestop for coffee. It was a decent experience - they did forget that I ordered a breakfast sandwich until I politely reminded them about 15 minutes after they gave us our last item (steamed oat espresso latte). Verdict: I'd come back if I lived in the area, or was passing through again, but it's not a place I'd outright go out of my way to get to. 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 8.5/10. It has a decent selection for being such a small hole-in-the-wall (relatively speaking). 2) FRESHNESS: 8/10. They have the materials to make things fresh, but a lot of the baked goods are technically "pre-baked" (they may have been made on the same day, but they're not "made to order". 3) VALUE FOR MONEY: 7.5/10. Overall not bad, kind of expensive (sandwiches were $10 and $12; lemonade was $4 for a small glass with tons of ice, iced coffee and latte were $6 each, almond croissant was around $5?), but not terrible for a small(ish) town like Vernon (remember, all prices in $CAD for a Canadian business!). 4) SERVICE: 7/10. There were two people working here the entire time I was there; one was constantly making drinks, the other was alternating between helping customers order and making the food. It was a busy morning, but the person who took my order forgot about the breakfast sandwich that I'd ordered until I politely reminded them (after it was already cold, sad days). 5) CONSISTENCY / FIRST IMPRESSION: 8.5/10. I'd definitely come back - and prefer it over the local Starbucks / Timmie's - because local businesses are fantastic if done right (and this place seems to have struck that balance). Parking in front, but not much! I'm happy to see a local coffee shop thriving - tons of folks came in and the place was always having someone order the full time I was there. NOTE: This place is also the same as "juice wall" - there's a "wall" of shelving near the door that's a ton of wine options - you have to get a coffee shop item to order stuff from there, but it seemed like a reasonable price when I was perusing (but not purchasing) the wine. My only regret is not taking a picture of the wall! The seating wasn't bad - there's maybe 5 tables of 2-3 inside, and a patio that lines the outside of the place - so it's not bad by any means.

@kekulicafebannock ft Saskatoon bbq chicken, beef frybread taco, venison taco, bbq chicken salad…read more Dropped by this place for a quick lunch on our way to Penticton. Got to try venison taco the first time. Got a bite of all the different tacos and honestly thought all of them were really good. Reading the other reviews, I see I'm not alone in stopping here en route to Penticton (it's a good mid-point for a break). There's a small parking strip on the side of the building. I love supporting smaller shops and cafes, and this particular one is indigenous-owned so it seems extra special! Love the motto, too: "Don't panic..We have bannock!". Cute! The cafe is small but clean, with Indigenous artwork on the walls. Of course we ordered bannock! I ordered a maple one, and my kid ordered a berry one (might've been the Saskatoon berry, I forget). I'll be honest, they were absolutely delicious, and fresh, and fluffy and sweet and glazed, but mine absolutely did NOT have much of a maple taste - like, AT ALL. It was like the glaze on a Krispy Kreme glazed donut. Delicious, yes, and sugary, but not maple-y. My kid's berry one was very subtle in its berry flavor. Again, excellent, but not knock-out berry-y. To me, these treats were similar to donuts without the holes. More like fluffy fritters. Delicious, but not as unique as I thought they'd be. As for the coffees....my maple latte, again, sadly, did not taste at ALL maple-y. But it was an excellent coffee: very smooth and flavorful. You could tell the beans were excellent. There just was no maple taste. But my kid had a berry latte (again, I forget what kind), but this drink was EXCELLENT and it totally DID have a distinct berry flavor to it, and it was wonderful! (We both tried both bannocks and both lattes, and we both agreed on this review). We didn't try the sandwiches but they looked quite good. They also had some cute Kekuli Cafe merch for sale.
