I started coming here when it first opened back in 1984. It was the first Time Hortons on town. Today, it's Don't King and Vietnamese food. I got sausage rolls to go and the kids had Sprinkle Donuts. Very good. read more

When I stepped into Donut King, my initial reaction was: "what the...pho...?" No, seriously, apart from donuts, this little shop in Kamloops also offers Vietnamese staple foods such as beef pho and veggie rolls. I was so amused by the odd combination, I couldn't help but to impulsively order a coconut donut, a mug of hot chocolate, and a $9 bowl of pho. Having enthusiastically eaten through half of my meal, it then hit me: their food is mediocre at best: - the hot chocolate came out of a machine and was WAY to sweet - the pho was rudimentary in ingredient and flavor - the donut was the saving grace of a mediocre and overpriced meal A brief conversation with the owner revealed that he was fed up with the nearby Tim Horton's serving unhealthy manufactured donuts from Toronto and thus he decided to live for what's noble by making his own donuts. RESPECT...but I'm giving you 3 stars. read more

I stopped in desperate for a coffee. This place is a funny little gem, it looks like a renovated tim hortons! The people running it are nice and it seems like a quaint mom and pops spot. My iced coffee was decent, but the doughnut I ordered was seriously stale. It was early in the morning and I wasn't ready for pho or spring rolls, but it smelled good and others looked happy with those orders. I've been on the road for awhile now, and being away from Vancouver (Lower Mainland) makes me crave and miss Asian food A LOT. When searching for the "best pho" in Kamloops or any Pho for that matter, my GPS brought me to Donut King & Coffee. What? Inside it looks like your typical donut shop. Donuts, pastries, and your standard Double Double. This place had something else. A magical bowl of Pho Beef noodles 7.99. The soup was hot and wasn't too bad. Very standard. Beef balls and sliced beef. Everything was pretty fresh. Conceptually it is strange when the smell of pho contrasts with flour and sugar. Suppose this is why no matter how hard the owners tried to introduce a sweet combo of Bánh mì (Vietnamese Subs), coffee and donut for under $5 it never worked. What's harder about keeping it all fresh was that the typical Bánh mì ingredients were not readily available in Kamloops. Such a shame. The Vietnamese owner was very pleasant to chat with! I hope the locals become more adventurous and support the strange Pho Donut shop. I know I will repeat next time I'm in the Valley. read more

No freezer donuts!! Are you like me? Do you miss the days of made from scratch donuts? Are you saddened by the flocks of people, only too happy to eat frozen cardboard, heated up, served with a sludgey drink? This little gem is right up your alley then. Thye owner, was a former Timmy's franchisee, who disagreed with the move to frozen, and opened up his own shop in an old Tim's location. I know!! Anyways, on my last trip to Kamloops I noticed it and had to try it, I ended up going three days in a row. Delicious donuts, all from scratch, and tasty, drinkable coffee. Probably the weirdest combination that I have seen, never knew Pho and donuts could ever see face to face. But I guess that has all changed. East meets West? Came here for lunch one day and to be honest this is probably the only vietnamese restaurant that sells this type of food in Kamloops... I don't believe there is a big enough vietnamese influence in the area. Anyways, I ordered the rare beef noodle soup and a honey donut. The honey donut tasted almost the same as a honey glazed donut I would buy at Tim Horton's.... It's probably suppose to be the same flavor but it really tasted almost the same... I hate to say it but I feel like it was almost bought from Timmies and sold at this restaurant and charge more to the customers... The beef noodle soup was very original and standard. Having ate at more than a handful of vietnamese restaurants back in Toronto and ate a good fair share of different pho bowls at varies places this place is just standard. There is nothing special about their noodle soup. The soup base is just alot of MSG which makes it flavorful and the noodle texture isn't that good either. The only thing that I do like at this place is that they have vietnamese ice coffee which not many places have (Probably this is the only place to get it in this area). The taste is different from most coffee places like from your typical Timmies, and Starbucks. I like this more than american style coffee's because its more of a traditional beverage made from the homeland back in Asia and the taste is stronger than other coffee's. Despite it being a bit pricy for just a coffee I probably would only get this once in awhile.... Overall its an OK place for drinks and donuts but wouldn't spend more on any of the food. read more

Lemon grass chicken rocks, also authentic salad roll. Been craving for the fresh spring rolls,there's only the two pho and lemon grass has it. The price is ok. And it's really convenient, next to the RBC . I can take dine in right after I get off the bus 9. I can see myself coming back often read more

On our road trip we were passing Kamloops and searched for a good breakfast and coffee place. We saw that this place had good ranking, but we were not convinced from the recommendation. However we were to be surprised. First of all, it was a unique situation when you can first order Vietnamese food and thereafter homemade doughnuts for dessert. Secondly, our spring rolls and noodles, were tasty and of good quality. Moreover, we could definitely taste the difference between these doughnuts and industrially made doughnuts! I could tell that they were made that day and the dough was really good. I would strongly recommend to support the owner of this place who really cares about what he does, so if you're passing this place I would recommend you to stop by and try some food and doughnuts! read more

Tried this place out a few times, here is the deal: Actual food is great, highly recommend you eat lunch or something there Deserts: NASTY ! EVERYTIME we have gone there for dessert of some sort it tasted like it was weeks old, dry, stale.... Just not even edible at all. After moving here I had a crazy craving for Salad Rolls and stumbled across Donut King online. I had the odd combination of a Hot Chocolate, a Walnut Crunch donut and Salad Rolls. The donut was awesome, could definitely tell that it was made fresh because of the soft inside and crisp outside. The salad rolls were decent, nothing to write home about but they were made fresh upon my order which was nice. Now the negative side. This was the worst cup of hot chocolate I have ever had. It was a premade mix thing from a machine. It was watery and bitter and I couldnt have more than a couple sips of it. The service was rather slow for me being the only one that was there. The donuts are ok, but it is the pho noodle soup that brings me back. On those cold, snowy, rainy days a bowl of hot soup really hits the spot. They really should have proper Chinese soup spoons and not the tiny plastic spoons, but I'll give them a pass since they are open at 7am and none of the other Vietnamese restaurants open for breakfast. read more
