We brought our truck in to have the heater fixed the first time it was just a vacuum leak and they said it was fixed we got it home and we had no heat. We brought it back they did a pressure check and called us up to come get it because it was fixed. It wasn't fixed still no heat. So we brought it back again this time they had to replace the intake manifold because when they pressure tested it they broke it. So they call us to come get it because guess what it's fixed. Get it home and NO HEAT. We take it back again ( I know it's completely our fault for being this stupid at this point) when we get there the guy tells my husband that I said they needed to check the wheel bearings, I never said a word to them about wheel bearings. Anyways 2000.00 later and we have NO HEAT STILL and our truck is now missing it never did that before. They had our truck like 5 times and couldn't manage to fix our heater but they sure managed to scam us out of 2000.00. BBB will be informed. Buyers beware of Dons Pro Tech. read more

We were headed to the Arizona/New Mexico on the start of a multi-week RV trip. We lost a belt coming up the grade into town and limped in to Don's right before closing one night. They said if we came by first thing the next morning right at 8, they'd fit us in. We did and we were back on the road by 10 a.m. the next day. Since we had planned to stay in Tehachapi that first night, we really didn't lose any time off our trip at all, thanks to Don's. The people were very courteous and the price was good too. They saved the start of our vacation. We've traveled a lot in our RV the last 13 years, and, although we try to keep the RV well maintained, occasionally you're going to need to get some maintenance help on the road. I've decided I can tell right away whether a shop is wants to help your out or just thinks your a nuisance. Don's is a shop that wants to help you out. read more

They handled some warranty issues for me, which got me free part replacement. The office Gal to copies of my past receipts to see what is covered for free part replacement. Honest, fair, comparably priced. I come back to Don's not only for the great deal on a don't-pass-don't-pay smog but also because they are very straightforward and ethical. Several times when I have needed a repair Don has taken the time to explain to me what the problem is and what the options are, what the possible outcomes and risks are. Even what they know and what they can't know. If anything the extra honesty could be seen as an unsmart business move but in most cases it keeps customers (like me) coming back. Give the customer all of the information you have and let them make their own informed decision. There are times in car troubles when you will get a straight "you need a new ______" and that's just the way it is. When it's more complicated I really appreciate being educated and treated like a friend, which is what I think they do here. read more

The only thing good about this place was the professionalism of the lady behind the counter. She handled herself real well while the mechanics knew nothing. I can not help but join an another reviewer about describing this business (at least partially) as deceptive. Beyond the facade of super friendliness, there is a scam, carefully executed with the expertise and smoothness of a well trained psychiatrist. Their primary tool is engine analysis. Once a warning light is detected, they carefully, in small doses inject concern in the customer by painting the worst possible scenario and the large,accompanying expenses. I paid over $500 for a new catalic converter and a smoke check, just to find out (the former) was not needed. If you go to this shop, watch how this friendly, Santa looking character changes his story about the small details of your problems, which will translate into hundreds of dollars of extra expenses later! On the positive note, it must be admitted that their water cooler is cool, and they give you courtesy rides, even if in the final analysis it's costing you about $10/mile.. :) read more

From a front end repair to a smog check. Dons Pro Technology is the place to go. Top notch mechanics and you cant beat Don for his vast knowledge of todays vehicles. As a former Chevrolet line mechanic I thought I had a pretty good grip on modern automotive technology. When I went to make my smog appointment, Don was talking to a customer about his on board computer control system and I was totally lost. Professional (up to date!) technology. If you don't mind paying the price, Dons is not too bad. I was on my way back home (Texas) when my vehicle mysteriously shut down in this little town in the middle of nowhere. The diagnostics seemed to be a bit overpriced as well as the labor cost, but it is the middle of nowhere California so they have a pretty good control on the market. They seem my vehicle on the same day and got me rolling after 4 or 5 hours. Not bad, but a little on the expensive side. They mechanics do seem to be pretty nice people as well. read more

Went in for a smog test. Passed in February. DMV says the form was never submitted. Probably DMVs fault I hope. I called Don in July when DMV sends the incomplete renewal notice. Don says we can print one out for me so I can go down to DMV. No apologies or attempt to resubmit it. He says he will look it up, puts me on hold and ends up hanging up on me. I call back and speak to Terese (sp?). She says she will try to email me a copy of the form. The renewal form clearly says the inspection was never received. It would be helpful if they could assist on their end since they are the ones responsible for submitting the form. read more

Thought I'd give them a try. The worst. Incompetent and scam artists. Misdiagnosed the problem, suggested "fixing" it for several thousand. Declined. Towed the car to J&H and they got it right, as usual. Don's would have done work(for several thousand dollars) for no reason and then the problem would have still existed costing me more--something I'm sure they would not have cared about. Look, sorry your mortgage and boat payments are behind, but I ain't paying for it, nor should anyone int he community. Avoid this place like the plague. J&H is probably the only honest place in town. As a side note--while waiting in the lobby, several people came in and there wasn't one that Don didn't quote a repair figure of under a thousand dollars. True vultures. read more

Deceptive and opportunistic. I cant believe they charged me a fortune to replace my civic kick starter. my car stereo and car remote was working fine when the conniving AV towing vehicle guy took me to Don's workshop. after they finished working on my car I noticed that my car stereo and car remote had stopped working. when I informed the boss he first lied and became very defensive that it was like that when I brought the car over. after a couple of findings he agreed it was their mistake and said the only option is to take it to the dealer.He did not offer to repair it. read more

I went in on 8/22/16 because I got a letter saying my registration would be suspended because my car had not passed smog. After the front people investigated, they determined my car had in fact NOT passed smogged but I was charged the $51 for the smog test (pass or don't pay is their motto). Not only did I have to wait for over an hour because no one there can give a refund except for the owner (Don) and he was busy in the back but I was also treated rudely (by Don) when he finally came out to help me... instead of apologizing for the mistake (which I can absolutely understand) his first words were "where's the receipt" even though his employees verified I had indeed paid. When I tried to explain it was in the car, in LA and that's why I couldn't just bring the car in to have it re-smogged he continued to be rude saying they don't issue refunds without the receipt and placed the blame on me as if I made the mistake. He also said "I don't know who it is that can't read because it clearly says on here that it didn't pass because it wasn't ready", not that it matters but Don was the one that gave me the smog paper and said it passed and he processed my payment. I even asked if it would get electronically sent to the DMV and he said "no, because I was taking it off of non-op and the registration was late so I needed the paper copy to give to the DMV. Even after being treated so rudely by Don, I was nice took my refund and left. I have been going to this smog place for years and when I owned a business I took all my service trucks there. I have taken a minimum of 2 vehicles a year there to get smogged and they have now lost my business for life. I will never take or recommend this shop again, not because of the mistake, but because of the treatment I received because of THEIR mistake. All it would have taken to keep me as a customer was a sincere apology instead of being treated as an inconvenience. read more
