After getting my mani & shopping at KTA, I noticed the bright " All day lunch buffet" at Don Kitchen sign on the business name, Had me at buffet so I walked in the check it out. Thinking Maybe for dinner plans since we were staying close by. Nice, clean and new business, the staff was friendly sharing more info. with me about their menu. ** note, this place is not a buffet, don't make same mistake as I did, strange the menu does state LUNCH BUFFET ALL DAY, I guess the take out food they have that day is a buffet, you just order your plates from the buffet and have option of dine in or take out. Like Chinese fast food. The selections they have when I visited looks good, many choices. Choose your special mixed plates, prices for plates are: One entree & one side $10.95 Two entrees & one side $12.95 Three entrees & one side $14.95 Chinese roasted meats such as Roast duck, roast pork and char siu pork also available. They also have Clear Noodle soup in house special broth, the choices are Won Ton, chicken, beef, shrimp, Chinese roast pork, beef spare rib, & roast duck from $14.95-$17.95. They have dim sum too, pork hash, rice cake & char siu manapua. I only tried the salt & pepper chicken, they use chicken breast which was on the dry side, I like the batter/flavoring. We spent way too long hanging out at the pool when we checked in at the hotel so we never made it back but plan to check it out next time. The clear noodle soup sounds good! Don Kitchen is a great addition to this shopping complex for Chinese food, dim sum and roasted meats. Check them out but don't expect a buffet style place! read more

Don's Chinese Kitchen - I forgot the rolls, but they are delicious - Chinese Near Me - Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Best dim sum ever! We were previously purchasing the Pork Hash, or Shu Mai at KTA stores. Both KTA in Keahou and Kona became very unreliable with merchandising the Pork Hash dumplings. A quick yelp search brought us to Don Kitchen and we were immediately hooked! The service is much more friendly than KTA. The food is fresh and hot, and it was perfect. Really appreciate their hard work and great food! read more

7:15pm and the hot line looks like old food. Not appetizing at all. We don't want to get sick. Headed to Panda's, fresh food.

Decided to eat lunch here after work. Terrible mistake. Went to pick up a shrimp from my plate and found maggots crawling on it. Absolutely disgusting will NEVER be eating here again read more

The roast duck and the harm ha eggplant were delicious. Not fancy, but clean and with good buffet assortment when we visited.

The great value was the texture and the seasoning, please keep food more warm I LOVE Cantonese fast food bbq Very, very good flavors, chow fun, char siu tender with five spice profile, honey walnut shrimp great sauce and generous serving, lemon chicken excellent sauce. (Suggest they switch cheaper thigh meat w skin on for the lemon chicken, however, the sauce was light and lemony. Next time will attempt my own lemon chicken and buy chow fun ala carte for $10+ Very very clean and shoyu, homemade chili oil and salt at each table, very nice people friendly and excellent pay option for cards, very nice people hope they get more and more choices, dim sum items... always suggest they offer green onion and cilantro for noodles, really nice touch read more

Food was delicious and the portions are huge!! The service was quick and the staff are so friendly!!! I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Chinese food and great customer service read more

First thing I'd like to say is the owners of this restaurant are very nice and will take the time to answer any questions you may have and to me that's the key to good customer service. Next, the dining room is very clean because it's a new place. The food here is not the best Chinese food I've ever had but, I've had a lot worse. That being said, I do like the food here and will definitely be back. Last, I'd like to clear up the all day buffet sign that they have. The food is on a hot table buffet style but people make the mistake of thinking it's an all you can eat buffet. A play on words to get you in the door. It worked on me. Ha Ha!!! read more

Don's was closed for a few years and is now back under new ownership. The quality of the food is not the same as it was under the original owners/chefs. Please do something about the orange chicken, it is really not good. They made it so delicious at the old Don's read more

Two words: Cake Noodle! Skip the hot trays and order the cake noodle. It's made-to-order so it's hot and fresh. I love the different textures of the noodles --crispy outside and chewy inside. The hot trays are just ok, similar to a Panda Express. read more

Service was great and prices were good as well. Manapua was decent with good char siu marinade, pork hash wasn't the best. Fried noodles (soft) was good but I would get the gravy on the side. We also ordered the wor won ton mein and a beef and broccoli plate with fried rice, which was alright. Char siu pork was good. Crispy gau gee was in fact crispy but the filling had no taste really. Would I come here again? Probably not. BUT they do cook the food fresh, which is a plus. read more

Run by what I believe are two sisters and their cute, elderly mother (who is back in the kitchen cooking). This food is plentiful and hits the hunger spot. Prices are easy on the wallet. I look at it more like a dependable cafeteria than a restaurant. I've gotten the lunch combos here about 4 times now and found the food to be decent and filling! read more

Yummy dim sum. Busy at 1pm on a weekday, but service was snappy. Good selection, beef, chicken, pork, vegetarian, soups, a little bit of everything offered. The place smells great and the food seems fresh. Yummy! read more

Terrible. We got crispy gau gee and it hardly had any meat in it. Super gross and tasteless. I do not recommend at all.

This is one of the best Chinese diner I've been to on the Big Island since I was a little kid. The best part about this place is that all of the servings are huge for the price, especially in Kona. Panda Express gives so little for the price! Living on Oahu, and working in the Kalihi District restricts any type of good food or heavy MSG killers. Yelpers who gave this place lower than desired reviews seriously has not been to Kalihi. Speaking to the owner there, it seems that it's a family owned and operated which is great since hiring outsiders usually produce less superior products vs family owned. That was a plus for me. The char sui Manapua is actually hand rolled and steamed , unlike here where everything is mass produced and fatty charsui! They use the one that is freshy made directly in house which I cannot find on Oahu, anywhere..yet. Thumbs up guys! read more

Not very good unless you really really like grease. But, what do you expect? It looks bad, looks greasy, and is pretty cheap. Well it tastes like it looks: Cheap, greasy and not good, but if that's what you're looking for, have at it. read more

When we're in Kona, and we're craving Chinese food, we head to Don's! Their entree line is always full of fresh, tasty food. I enjoy their spicy eggplant, tofu dishes, and too many others to list. If you're looking for rice cakes, and pork hash, they have those too. The prices are reasonable, the servings are big, and the people are always friendly. I'm never disappointed! read more

Food is pretty good, a lot like Panda express, but hugely expensive in comparison. Ie., On line price was $6.95...showed up and the same item was $10.95!!! Nearly 50% - 75% higher!!! I'm glad I went in person before ordering on the phone as I was shocked when I got there! Everything was different in person than listed on line too... I asked the lady up front what was going on and she played dumb like she didn't know. After she knew she was had, She said it was a long time since they changed anything on line... She was very nice and did give me the online price when she saw I was torked. I would probably go back if I couldn't find another place but I almost walked out before I ordered. My wife was hungry and pushing me to hurry up and bring back the food so I had no choice....buyers beware!!!! read more

Best place to have awesome satisfying Chinese food!!! Very friendly owners!!! Always my first choice for Chinese food!!!

I absolutely love Don's Chinese Kitchen! I love the amount you get for a really good price that doesn't take away from the quality of the food. Everytime I go, the food taste fresh and it is not overly salted like most Chinese cuisines I've been too. I have to say, Don's is my absolute favorite place to go when I'm craving Chinese. My favorite off the line is the noodles, sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken and pork belly!! My favorite thing to order is the crispy gau gee mein. When you open the door, the redolence is absolutely outstanding! The aroma just swarms all around you inviting you in to take another step. And then another step. And then another step, until you reach the counter. All the food on the line is screaming out for you to choose them. You won't know what you want because everything looks so mouthwatering. Do you want your usual? Do you want something new? Do you want what he's eating? Or what about what she's eating? Then you decide. But then you look up and see all these other delectable choices to decide from and your back to square one. All these low prices and delicious foods to choose from. But I'm here to tell you that, that's ok. You just have to pick something and come back the next day and choose something new. You can either sit down and eat or take out. Either way life will be heaven. What can I say? I love Chinese food and I love Don's Chinese Kitchen... read more

Too salty, too greasy. Ate a vegetarian meal and didn't feel good immediately afterwards. The cockroach walking on the table didn't make things look any better. They also use foam plates which should and will be banned soon. Not coming back. read more

Great food. Awesome service! Good prices! Can't go wrong here! Best Chinese food I have had in Kona!!!

Very tasty and not salty. The rice cake is the bomb. Gotta try it .no other place sells it. Good price for the money.

It's my first time eating here and I'm not impressed. First off, they put peas in their fried rice . That was a major turn off for me . Customer service was lacking to say the least. I just came here because I ran out of options to eat. Don't think I'll be coming here again. read more

We went to Hawaii on a fairly tight budget. We'd heard how expensive it is to eat out. When we found Don's Chinese Kitchen in a strip mall, we decided to give it a shot. We were so glad that we did! It's a basic Chinese restaurant with several prepared dishes on in hot trays behind the counter (similar to Panda Express' set up). You can select rice or noodles & your entrees. My husband and I were fans of the 3 item combo ($8.99). It was a ton of food.... great tasting... and we could easily split it for dinner. We loved the flavor of their rice... beef & broccoli and chasu sui. If you're looking for an informal inexpensive quick meal, this is a great place. Super yummy food! We've been looking for a place that serves manapua since we got to Kona. These were delicious!

Best fried rice in Kona! Always fresh, flavorful and mouth watering. Yes they have a behind-the-glass buffet like Panda Express, but don't be fooled. The fried rice is a million times better than Panda's; and if you like egg rolls, oh my god! Deffinately comparable to mainland Chinese food. I order the beef mushroom with extra beef & the fried rice of course, with a couple egg rolls on the side. Don't forget the sweet & sour sauce! The dish is cooked up fresh in the back of the house and comes to you in a steam cloud. Savory shiitake mushrooms, zucchini, mini corn, onions, carrots and a stir fry sauce of perfect consistency. My wife and I are a regular here (once a month or more) and it is just as good every time we come. read more

Old and dry... Those two words sum up my experience and initial impression. Probably should have left... But I was hungry. They are trying to be like Panda Express, with out the quality control. read more

I come here often. My regular is always the Mapo tofu and crispy pork. Very tasty, also rice cake and other desserts are so good.

For budget Chinese, this is only OK. Portions are big and the service is good. Fried shrimp were more breading than shrimp. Orange chicken was OK, a little greasy. We were not familiar with the area but were hungry for Chinese so we gave it a try. read more
