My husband and I had to relocate from Los Angeles to Napa right in the middle of my pregnancy (with…read moreour FIRST BABY) which meant leaving our midwife behind and leaving me afraid of what we would do for the care/birth of me and our son. I emailed two groups in Napa (Paula being one of them) and told them my situation, Paula offered I call her and talk to her on the phone almost immediately. I never heard anything from the other group. I told her this was our first baby, I was scared of this move because we were set on homebirth and we needed a midwife. She offered to meet with us when we came to Napa and talk further. When we went to to find a place to live in Napa, we visited Paula and part of the birth team and my husband and I realized quickly that Paula was an answer to our prayers. She wasn't just going to be our replacement midwife to get the job done, she was our dream midwife. I can't begin to unpack how amazing Paula is AND the birth team she constructs. Every appointment is thorough, we felt cared for and she went above and beyond to get me connected to other mamas in the area. She is beyond experienced and someone you can trust. Our birth was beautiful, smooth, amazing and at home with Paula and the team just like we wanted. The way the team helped us prepare mentally and emotionally is beyond what they're required to do but they truly care and KNOW birth, babies and parents! As I laid in my bed after birth overwhelmed with emotion holding my son, I looked at Paula and told her I think that this move to Napa was so that we could have her, I couldn't imagine anyone else helping us through this. We hit a SMALL hiccup in birth that was absolutely no big deal to Paula and she quickly rectified it for me so I could push our baby out safely. Couldn't believe how simple it was for her to fix when in the hospital my outcome may have been very different. I say that to comfort you that Paula knows her stuff, she has done this 1000++ times and you are in the best of hands with mama Paula. We love her, her team and everything about our experience. The care we're getting postpartum is unbelievable as well! I could go on and on! I'm telling you, Paula is your midwife.

We discovered my baby was breech and, with an OB, came up with a plan for spinning baby and what to do if he didn't spin. Two days later, I went into labor. My husband updated Paula on how strong & close together my contractions were, and she said to call her back in an hour, nothing about heading to the birth center 40 minutes away. We trusted her and stayed put. She had no sense of urgency until 15 minutes later when my husband told her my water broke. My breech baby was born in an unsafe environment and needed to be revived by paramedics. We were transported to a nearby hospital separately, and I didn't see my baby until he was 3 hours old. Paula showed up at the hospital and asked my mother to watch her daughter. Almost a year later, in front of her former partner Fawn, Paula claimed that Jamie was the primary for my care and birth. This was a surprise to my husband and me. Jamie didn't know I was in labor until after my water broke as my husband was solely communicating with Paula. My baby spent time in the NICU hooked up to all matter of wires. He was in a cooling blanket for his first 3 days, during which I could only hold him for one hour a day, but not close. He suffered seizures and is still attending High Risk Infant doctors appointments over 18 months later. I'm still coming to terms with my traumatic birth and grieving the birth I wanted. When we chose Paula, there was a couple in the birthing room with their new baby. Paula said they lived 40 minutes away, but she had told them to come early. I loved that and felt we were in good hands, that we would be provided the same care. Instead, we paid thousands and were told to call her back in an hour.

Erin's…read moreextensive knowledge, calming presence, fierce advocacy, & non-judgmental, inclusive approach have helped us to navigate all of the overwhelming aspects of pregnancy, birth, & post-partum life with our first child. When we found out that our baby was breech at 36 weeks, Erin's response was immediate while also compassionate and caring - validating our concerns, bringing us resources, teaching us spinning baby techniques, giving us language to request help from traditional & homeopathic practitioners, and helping us to feel confident that we would make the best decisions for the health and well-being of our baby. Also as large bodied, queer people, working with a queer, large bodied doula has been an absolute dream. All of her materials & language felt inclusive and representative of us. In birthing spaces, heterosexual relationships are typically the default, so it was so refreshing to feel seen in our queerness & not exist on the fringe. We felt fully seen in all of our identities and that made all the difference. To say Erin has been an absolute gift is an understatement. My wife and I often reflect on how fortunate we are to have met Erin & to have had her by our side during this experience. 10s across the board - we highly, highly recommend working with Erin - her support will elevate your experience 100 fold.

She was incredibly in tune with what I needed at every point, from constant counter-pressure on my back to hugs and words of encouragement. Also, the postpartum massage was AMAZING! She put my new baby in a wrap and he slept happily on her the whole time, and I could not have felt better afterwards. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to all of my friends, and there's no one else I would call for baby #2! Lastly, she worked wonderfully with my midwives, and also has a lot of experience in hospitals- she was able to explain what was happening with our baby after he was born, reassure us at several stages, and make a very good impression on our team (and my family, who all commented that she basically never left my side!). She sends cards and chocolates out to the birth team/hospital crew afterwards, and was very conscientious about supporting me without ever getting in their way. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience!

We met with Becca and knew right away that she was the perfect person to help us in preparing for and giving birth. She immediately set us at ease by assuring us that the hospital we chose had an excellent Labor and Delivery team. She was 100% right about that, and everything else. She helped me trust myself and my body. I never thought I would have such an amazing and thoroughly happy birth experience. Becca really cares. It meant a lot to us that she also visited us after the birth to check in and provide some very welcome support. If we have another baby, we will definitely work with Becca, again!

One of the things that impressed me most was how seamlessly she read the dynamic between me and my husband. She always knew when to step in with support and when to step back and give us space. That balance was invaluable during such an emotional, vulnerable time. When my birth plan didn't go the way I had envisioned, Becca's expert advice and calm presence gave me so much security in the decisions I had to make. She helped me feel grounded, informed, and confident every step of the way and encouraged me to listen to my instinct and body. Another aspect of her support that you simply can't put a price on is how connected she is at Kaiser. She knew nearly every midwife and nurse, and because of her strong relationships there, I felt reassured that the care I was receiving was exactly what I needed. Her presence gave me an extra layer of trust in the whole process. Becca communicated beautifully, supported us with such compassion, and helped make my first birth experience one that I will cherish forever. I can't recommend her enough--if you're considering a doula, Becca is truly one of a kind! Thank you so much Becca!

From the very beginning, her rare combination of skill, deep experience, warmth, and dedication to building a true relationship with our family put me at ease. She trusts birth as a natural process, and that trust was contagious. Few midwives are as devoted to their craft as she is. She spent so much time with us, never rushing a single visit. Every appointment felt spacious, thorough, and unhurried. She was attentive to every clinical detail, while also bringing so much heart and presence to the process. During the birth itself, Susanna held an incredibly powerful and steady presence. I felt completely safe in her hands. I truly don't believe my home birth would have been possible without her. The amount of surrender required in that moment was only possible because she created such a strong, grounded, and safe space for me to let go. As a first-time mom over 40, I am deeply grateful for the care and confidence Susanna brought to this experience. She helped me have the birth I dreamed of, and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

My prenatal home appointments were regular, and initially I felt comfortable with my decision. Toward the end of my pregnancy, however, I became increasingly fearful and ultimately ended up being induced at the hospital. What followed was a very traumatic experience that resulted in a five-day hospital stay and an unexpected C-section. During this time, Susana was only partially present, as she was dealing with serious health issues involving her husband. After my C-section, she did come to check on me at home and advised me to remain mostly bedridden and not move much. I followed this advice. Two weeks later, I was rushed to the emergency room with a blood clot. Based on what I later learned, I believe that early movement and walking could have helped prevent this, and I was physically capable of doing so at the time. Overall, my experience was deeply traumatic and left lasting emotional and mental scars that I am still healing from. Looking back, I believe things could have unfolded very differently had I received more comprehensive support and guidance during such a critical and vulnerable time. I'm sharing my experience in hopes that it provides insight for others as they make decisions about their care.
