I needed new tires on my scooter and didn't really know who offered that service. I called a specialty scooter shop who told me they could "probably do it but most times they end up taking the scooters to Donelson's for tire balancing". So I cut out the middle person and called Donelson's directly. They let me know they had been crazy busy but would order my tires and once they were in I could drop the scooter off and they would "work it in" to get the tires done. This may seem odd but some other places I called wanted me to drop my scooter off that day and let it sit til they could get to it - could be 4-6 weeks they said. Donelson told me it's prob be a week or so once the tires were in. They ordered the tires, called me and let me know. I dropped the scooter off and they had the replacement done in about 2 days. There was a snafu with the wrong tires being ordered and them needing to put a different set on (my fault as I provided the tire size). Even with that taking place it still only took them 2 days. I had paid in advance for the tires and we had to rework the bill due to the tire swapout, but even that was handled with grace and I paid the difference. They also performed an inspection for me while they had my scooter. Overall nice experience - especially compared to the run around I got from some other places when calling around. Reason I took off 1 star is noone there knows anything outside of their specific dept. So on 1 call they transferred me multiple times - from parts to inquire about the tires, then to service to find out how much service cost, then back to parts because I asked another tire related question, then back to service to talk about the inspection. It'd be nice if they were aware enough of each area to speak to it. read more

I have a Triumph Bobber Black and anytime I need work done Brian always does a great job! One occasion, I purchased the wrong crash bars for my bike although the mfg said they would work...Brian did his best to figure it out even taking pics so that I could email the mfg of the crash bars for proof they don't work with my bike. Because of that I was able to get a refund. Even though he couldn't put them on I appreciated his care and patience in the situation. I will continue to patronize Donelson Cycles for my bike needs! 10 days and 2000 miles into a trip of a lifetime, I noticed grinding noises from my front wheel as I stopped for fuel in St. Louis. I googled motorcycle shops near me and saw some good reviews from Donelson cycles so I called and was connected to Brian in service who listened to my tale of woe and told me to come on by. As suspected the pads on my front brake calipers were shot, but in an hour, the problem had been diagnosed and taken care of and I was on my way. Can't say enough about this five star cycle shop.. I've known Carl for decades, but really got to know he and the shop when I purchased a new Triumph Tiger XC. As a shop, Donelson backs the motorcycle industry very well with activities thru out the year, including get togethers for specific types of riding including flat track. The shop's Christmas party is legendary! In addition, Carl has a fantastic museum of classic bikes and ex racers. inside the shop. The shop also has new/old parts for a number of English motorcycle brands as well as a very good selection of riding garb, accessories, and parts for the brands they sell that includes; Triumph, Ducati, Yamaha, and Honda. Sales guy needs to learn some people skills. Have purchased multiple Triumphs and Yamahas here from Val over the past 15+ years and always had them serviced at Donelsons. Getting in the service queue has always been a slight challenge but worth it, generally speaking. Almost felt like an extended family. Kim was very empathetic in all our conversations. Had driven 5 hours to pick up a Trident 660 and they were considerate and stayed past closing to help me close the paper work and pick up my ride. Carl the owner stayed with me in the parking lot till I left giving me tips to ride back safe. The small things that they did mattered to me a lot. Oh even the guy who sold me a helmet was very considerate, listen to my needs and helped find the right product. I went to Donelson in search of a helmet and gloves, based on a recommendation from an acquaintance who said Donelson had a great selection. Indeed they do...lots of helmets, gloves, jackets, apparel, gear, etc. Unfortunately, they did not have a helmet for me, but the employee working with me bent over backwards to try to find a model and design I liked in the right size, and said he could get anything in 2 days (I needed it today). I did get a great pair of gloves. They have a decent selection of women's gloves...not a ton, but more than other places. It's not the most beautiful establishment, but it's a great place to go when you need something...anything...motorcycle-related. read more

Terrible customer service. It took one month after the wait period to get my motorcycle back from getting a tire change and tank installation. The tank installation work was sloppy with screws not put in properly and also they did not repair the main bolt which I specifically asked for. I payed $621 and now I have to carry it to another mechanic. All in all I was treated very poorly by the service manager and in the end, the owner Mr. Donelson. And the only good thing I got out of this were the tires and safety inspection. If you want a good mechanic I DO NOT RECOMMEND donelson cycles. read more

I took a motorcycle I bought from a friend of my son to Donelson's for a an inspection. I was told it failed for an issue with the front bearing and that it would cost a couple of hundred to repair. I took the cycle home and called the guy who sold it to me. He said he didn't see how that could be possible as they told him the same thing when he had the cycle inspected that year and had it repaired. DO NOT GO! I did not even get the chance to purchase a bike from this place based on my experiences from two visits. My first visit I was greeted by Carl Donelson himself, he said hi and asked what he could do for me, I told him what I was looking for and then after I looked for awhile I asked for a test drive, once I asked this his attitude changed, he muttered sure and dissapeared. After wondering what happened he finally appeared again and said I needed to fill something out, I did and then could not find him anywhere, after 40 minutes he finally appeared again and asked where I was the bike is ready. I rode the bike for maybe 5 minutes and brought it back and went over some more information and left. I kept looking other places and got a great price from a different dealership , I went back to Carl and asked him if he would be able to get close to the price. Before I could finish he said no way and started attacking me and the dealership with pointless facts like how long he has been in business. When I told him that I was simply wondering if he would even be competitive to earn my business he said no and just stared at me until I said ok thanks then and left. This man has no idea how to treat people or run a business well. I went to MOTOEUROPA and was treated great, guess what Im still paying $500 more than I would have if I took the out of town offer but its worth it since Mark the sales manager there worked with me, was honest about how great a deal the other guy was offering, and just made my visit fun.
