Bottom line is that I needed to find someone who actually knew what they were doing to help me through this journey. Most of the women I publicly admired were in fact wearing extensions or weaves or wigs or you know some sort of sew-in. I'm so glad I found Ann and her shop Not Just Hair. I had a job interview and I really wanted my short pixie afro to look nice and I wanted to color it and I knew I couldn't do it myself because I had already tried and it just turned red. The minute that Ann saw me she knew exactly what needed to be done and squared me away. I'm happy to post photos because I want you to see the difference! I was able to get highlights and products that allow my hair to look pretty nice with minimal effort. I simply had my barber shape my haircut to highlight Ann's amazing work. There was no long wait at Ann's place or parking issues (if you're familiar with Olde Towne Alexandria, time of day is everything). The women were British, American, and Nigerian. It was so positive. She knows my hair and I have been with her through short, long, layered, colored, relaxed, natural, thick, thinning :) and change of locations. She stated that she would not resolve the issue until my Yelp review was taken down. That is not how business is conducted. There is nothing I stated in the Yelp review that was not accurate. Additionally, she indicated that she spoke with the owner of her Sola Salon location, who brought the review to her attention, that he was the attorney and that he gets and distributes all of the mail for the salon. She indicated that he wanted to know why this Yelp review was put up, etc. Based upon Brenda's statements, I contacted one of the owners of Sola Salon, Jeff, and he stated that he was not an attorney, that he was not aware of any conversations with Brenda regarding this issue, as they, the owners, do not get involved with their tenants disputes. He stated none of them would have involved themselves in her disputes with her clientele. Brenda also indicated that she spoke with Yelp regarding this review and Yelp was going to open an investigation because "I didn't give her a chance to resolve the issue". Again, I did some research and contacted Yelp. As per Yelp (877-767-9357), they do not "investigate" a consumer because of a review, they do not provide statements of fact about a review or business dispute and they rarely, if at all, remove a review because the business owner requests it. That would defeat the primary objective of their service. Luckily, all of my interactions with Brenda are recorded (I suggest that to anyone dealing with her). I have simply learned a lesson here regarding this business, its owner and its services. Based upon that, I would not recommend. It is not my intention to defame or hurt Brenda's business, however, as the other reviewers mentioned, I don't believe she is aware of her business etiquette and hostile approach to resolving issues with clients.

After days of NO response to my text, I decided to call. I was so happy to hear her voice, because I was looking forward to having my hair done for my 10 year marriage anniversary ! Upon mentioning that I sent a text message, Brenda responded with, "I didn't get a text message from you....I ALWAYS respond to my texts." After politely giving her the date and time of the text, she immediately stated, "Oh, YOU'RE THE ONE who wrote the YELP review about me!?" Stunned by her tone, I answered "Yes! I loved my hair! I wanted to schedule another appointment because I liked it so much." I was really trying to change the tone of the conversation by being upbeat and positive. Unfortunately, my Yelp reviewed tainted our conversation and any hopes of getting my hair done by her again . According to the stylist, my review could lessen the chances of having future clients and I negatively affected her "livelihood of how she feeds her family" because I gave 4 Stars based on the price. I repeatedly mentioned that I loved my hair and I actually thought my review was quite positive! My heart raced during this conversation due to the disbelief that THIS was happening because of my sincere Yelp review. I've never experienced this before. As a military spouse, I've lived in many places and I just honestly have NEVER paid $80 for a wash, flat iron, and "re-shape" of a PREVIOUSLY cut hairstyle (my hair was already cut into a Bob before she did my hair). I never condemned her character or even regretted paying that much for my hair. My hair was done in less than one hour--super fast! I didn't even sit under the dryer--Yay!!! Lol. I loved the quick service and the outcome of my hair--I have no regrets...As a "Yelper," I'm very detailed with the description of my experience (as you can see). Honestly, I actually left out a full description of the "energy" that I felt during my first visit, because the outcome of my hair outweighed my "perception" of the customer service. I didn't want to deter anyone from seeking her services based on the price or anything else. In closing, my first Yelp review was never meant to "hurt" her business, nor is this one, frankly . At the end of our conversation, she did offer to schedule me again, which I appreciate. And, given the "cost of living" for the DC area, her prices aren't unheard of... I've learned that $55 for a flat-iron in the DMV is standard (just not at Dominican or Ethiopian shops, lol).
