We left extremely confident we could have handled our tax return ourselves and that we wasted both time and money with no benefit from this experience. Our preparer was clearly new and either undertrained or just not competent with the software. We as the non professionals had to point out multiple obvious mistakes (thank goodness we could see the information being entered on our end) including "It's giving you an error because you need to put the federal withholding in the box, and you keep entering the state value" "You're entering information for the W2 into the 1098 form"and "You've put an income value where the employer ID should be." The preparer clearly needed a more experienced preparer to help along the way and our appointment took twice as long as it needed to. Thank goodness we came in with a basic working knowledge of the process and our documents. It was like doing our return ourselves with extra steps.
