This trail is going on my bookmarks…read more I had a great time hiking the 2 trails at Island Ford Park today. It was clean, well-maintained and peaceful with a lovely creek and lots of shade. Dog friendly and great for hiking alone or in a group, I highly recommend visiting the park in the evening. Trail #1 goes under Highway 400, so does get a bit noisy. Trail #2 goes through the Hewlett Lodge Visitor Center and is a good spot to picnic and take breaks. Each trail is about 3 miles to & fro and take roughly an hour or so each to complete them. There are no restrooms in the Island Ford Unit entrance so plan accordingly if you enter from that entrance. Parking is $5/day or free with the Annual pass or America the beautiful pass. Amenities: Wheelchair accessible entrance and parking, pet waste stations & picnic tables

Our hike was both fun and refreshing, and it gave us a glimpse of just how much this park has to offer. One of the highlights was discovering the variety of trails--each one winding through different landscapes and offering unique perspectives of the river and surrounding forest. That said, we've only scratched the surface. With so many trails still left to explore, it feels like we've only had a taste of the adventure waiting here. We also had the chance to tour the lodge, which was a fascinating stop. It shared the history of the site in an engaging way and offered interactive exhibits that were perfect for kids. It added an extra layer of fun and learning to our visit, making the experience even more memorable. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for hiking, family outings, and reconnecting with nature. We're already looking forward to coming back and experiencing more of the trails and activities we didn't get to this time.

A very well maintained nature preserve with short trails for a perfect hike/stroll through the…read morewoods. At first glance the trail entrance seems like you are walking through the back of a car company - the parking lot is off Roswell Rd in the Tag office parking lot. But once you enter and see the trail signs you are taken from urban business buildings into a gorgeous forest preserve. There are a handful of bridges and streams to see. I suggest sitting near the stream and taking it all in. The loop may be fairly short but it is a great stop for a solo stroll, with friends or pets on a leash. There is a water fountain and bathroom near the parking lot should you need one. I'd call the hike easy though there is a small incline slope going down into it. The trails are a mile or under and the main one loops around. We were there during winter after the Christmas holiday and saw an abundance of beautiful brown and orange leaves everywhere. There was even a tree decorated with nature friendly ornaments. This preserve is a nice little gem in the middle of an urban area to give you just enough quality nature time if you need it.

Today is 5/3/20 and this Park is finally reopen! It was closed for the coronavirus pandemic. Added several pictures of the trail sign and bridge. Restroom is still closed. I hiked early morning, and saw 4 other people on the trails, which was very reasonable. Weekend afternoons can get too busy for my comfort level during the pandemic. Going counterclockwise along the loop, starting with a 300ft steep slope, which is actually the sole challenging part of this trail. There are many tree roots on the trail, and you may trip if you are not careful, a pair of trekking poles would make the hiking safer. Surrounded by the trees in the middle of nowhere, there is an abandoned mysterious car, and there are no roads around, no one knows how it got here. There are few hikers, and you can sit by the river dazing off, or meditate.

I don't mind driving out into the burb's on weekends as much as weekdays. No traffic! There are so many trails along the Greenway in Big Creek Park to choose from, from beginner to intermediate, to the trails that aren't for the faint of heart. Most of the trails are very biker friendly, so if you've got a road bike or a mountain bike, c'mon down. There are two parking lots: if you're planning on hiking/walking on foot or taking a road bike, I advise you park in the second parking lot, which is closer to the Greenway entrance. You'll pass the first one at the entrance of the park, but drive past to the second entrance on your right (once inside the park, that is)! We did a forest trail (intermediate 1.4 miles) and we also walked along the Greenway. Both have great forest shrubbery and views. The maps seemed to have been stolen or taken down on the Greenway, so make sure to memorize the map at the entrance. Overall I had a magnificent time strolling through Big Creek Park. Stumbled upon two curious deer on the Greenway, who didn't seem startled by the sight of people. What a treat!

As a local hiking park, Big Creek suffers in comparison to some others,such as the Gwinnett county parks. There really is only one hiking trail and it's an easy, not very interesting 1.4 mile loop that unfortunately spends too much time close to busy Old Alabama Rd. There are many more trails in the park dedicated to trail bikes and they seem much more interesting. but I really prefer not to hike on bike trails, both forms sake and for the bikers'. That said, the northern section of Big Creek benefits enormously from the presence of the Big Creek Greenway. Ordinarily, I'd be dissing this too because it's a concrete path and I like dirt. But it's a great concrete path. Plus, there's a good bit of wooden boardwalk that traverses the wetlands. It's a nice walk. Parking is not a problem during non-peak times, with a lot on the south end and one further down the road towards the middle of the park. That middle lot also has restroom facilities.

There are swings, play area for the kids, a really pretty Creek, benches, a nice fountain and picnic area for families. Great for walking your pets too. Spring is my favorite time to visit:)

I really wanted to like this trail as it was quiet and runs along a refreshing river but there were…read moretoo many problematic areas that need to be addressed immediately by the CNRNA. #1 High theft and vandalism warnings everywhere but no security cameras anywhere to be found. Due to the remote nature of the trail, it looked extremely unsafe to leave the car and go hiking for a couple of hours. #2 The trail was not maintained at all. There were overgrown bushes, logs that poked out with the trail looking unsafe to maneuver during wet seasons. It was surprising as it was a paid trail. I have seen much better-looking free trails than the Jones Bridge trail. #3 Bathroom was not maintained either. It smelled really bad with no hand soap either. Again, I have seen better maintained free trails with lot more amenities than this one.
