I just got home from a delicious meal at Don Taco. Yay! Joy! TACOS! After reading Camille L's review, I decided to give this place a chance. I have high standards, my mother lives in Mexico and I'm from NYC, so I wasn't expecting much. The meal started off well with guacamole and bean puree. While I would have enjoyed both with some jalepeno for a little kick, they were still both tasty, particularly the guacamole. The beans could use more seasoning but still good and fresh tasting. Next I had the tacos al pastor. These were the stars, well-seasoned with a delicate mole marinade and topped with a little pineapple, onion and cilantro. I asked for hot sauce and they gave me something wonderful, not very hot but just enough kick to put a smile on my face. Finding this taqueria feels a bit like home. read more

Tacos. The French have no idea...Here, we take a few steps closer to achieving the concept, but after having hundreds of renditions of the dish, I am still left a bit disappointed. Oui, the food is fresh, but tacos al pastor should be topped with cilantro and lime, not a lemon and parsley. The waitress/owner spoke Spanish which was refreshing, and I assume they have more limited access to ingredients for their cooking but a real taqueria should be...a real taqueria. Prices were fair, food was served quickly and service was very friendly! These are the BEST *real* tacos I have had in Lyon thus far, so taking me closer to Mexico felt great. However, I would need the tacos to be more authentic before I could consider 4 stars.... Visit here! You will enjoy it if you are French. I will call this a frenchstyle taqueria mix between a restaurant and a mexican taqueria. They have tacos al pastor just for that and la michelada they deserve to be called best taqueria in town!!! And sundays desayunos are the best! read more

Having read some great reviews on yelp and being a fan (but not an expert) of tex mex food, I've been wanting to try Don Taco for a while. It was easy to get a table early on a Friday night. The server lady was very friendly, the manager (owner?) in the back less so. The place feels somewhere in between a restaurant and a fast food joint. The food was ok but a bit disappointing and expensive for what it was, good but nothing one couldn't make at home and overall lacking in taste. Between the two of us we had the soupe aztèque (tomato soup with tortilla chips and cheese) and guacamole (nice texture but lacked in taste, could have done with more spices and cilantro) for starters that came with a black bean sauce, a red salsa sauce (again, both not bad but lacking in taste and pretty watered-down) and taco chips. We both had alambre for the main dish, the vegetarian version was basically fried veggies and came with tortillas (as many as you wanted). So... not a bad experience, bad not exciting either. read more

Don Taco, you're saving my life here. As a vegetarian newly relocated to Lyon from Austin, TX, I miss all of my amazing veggie Tex Mex options something fierce. Thankfully, a friend (also from Texas) told me about this place and I've been there twice in the past week. Before the meal, they bring you a small plate with three bowls: one of salsa, one of black beans, and one of sour cream. The salsa tastes fire roasted and is appropriately spicy for our Texas palettes. My only complaint is that they don't bring you enough chips to enjoy it! (Although they will happily bring you more if you ask.) They also have guacamole on the menu which is delightful and refreshing, though it has onions in it which is not how I make it at home. But it's still very tasty and hits the spot for that guac craving you might be having. For 14€, you can order the Vegetarian Menu, which comes with an appetizer, a plate, and a dessert. The soupe aztèque (on the appetizer list) is a vegetarian version of tortilla soup, with a tomato-based broth. For a plate, you have the options of potato flautas, vegetarian allembre, and mushroom quesadillas. I've had the flautas twice and they were very tasty. My friend enjoyed the allembre while we were there yesterday and my husband had the quesadillas the last time we went. They were impressed with both dishes. (For the non-vegetarians, my husband very much enjoyed the tacos al pastor yesterday, served on corn tortillas with a bit of mango and limes for squeezing.) For dessert, you have to try the banana thing. I don't remember what it's called but our waitress knew what "the banana thing" was so that seems like a good enough description! It's a moist cake, almost flan-like in consistency, with fresh sliced bananas, chocolate, and caramel. It's amazing. So Don Taco is cheap, filling, tasty, and the only thing they're missing is chile con queso to make this the perfect place. I'll be a regular customer. Oh! One last thing. Make a reservation! The staff was rude. Three of us walked in as a table of 4 was leaving and we were told that the there would be a long wait for a table. When we pointed to the recently freed table, we were told that it could be 30 or more. It was bull. They just didn't want to work. I will never again entertain the thought of spending money in that it's-so-small-it-must-be-a-converted-closet restaurant. read more

As an American living in France for three years Mexican food is what I miss most from home. At first I loved going to don taco but have noticed the quality and service going down the past year. After tonight I feel compelled to comment the continued lowering of the dinning experience there. The guacamole and sauce were so watered down inedible. I noticed the cook has changed as well. Even if you are in Lyon craving Mexican food I would avoid for one of the many wonderful dinning experiences that around the city. read more
