    Jalapeño poppers
    Allison B.

Review update: They do, in fact, have fresh jalapenos. I don't know where they got them but they exist. Exciting! I ordered the veggie nachos today (whole black beans, cheese, tomatoes, cilantro, and fresh jalapenos) and they brought me extra jalapenos to sprinkle all over the chips. It was delicious. We also had the jalapeno poppers, which were fresh peppers sliced in half lengthwise and stuffed with cheese, then heated in a cast iron tray. They were good, though not exactly like back home. (I think these could be considered fancier than the breaded, fried poppers we smother in ranch dressing back in Texas.) We also tried the habanero salsa, which still wasn't all that spicy but pretty tasty nonetheless. (Its the regular salsa with habanero added.) Four stars for fresh jalapenos. I will go back just for more of that flavor I've been missing.

Home made poppers served in cast iron skillet.

Real Mexican in France. Mole' was great, poppers were wonderful, the owners are warm and inviting, it felt like we have been coming here for years. Good and spicy, try and find a jalapeño in france, we'll you can here, organic from a private greenhouse.

Food was very fresh and very good! Outlaw burrito and chorizo nachos were great. Open kitchen design and you can see them cook your meal.

A perfect respite from amazing French food, even though the Tex-Mex has a distinct French flair to it.

Lucky for us, we happened to walk by this spot and stopped in to grab a bite! We were greeted by (who we came to find out later was) the owner, who was tending bar and taking care of the entire front of house on his own. And killing it, by the way. We let him know we were visiting from Mexico and San Diego and the conversation just took off from there. My boyfriend's first language is Spanish, so he was stoked to be able to speak with someone who also spoke Spanish and wasn't speaking in the dialect from Spain. We ordered the al pastor tacos (which are my favorite in Mexico) and were SO impressed by how delicious and authentic they tasted! The tortillas tasted fresh and the meat was seasoned perfectly. They even included the little slice of piña! Come to find out, they import a lot of their ingredients straight from Mexico. We reveled in the spicy salsa and the tang from the limes. It was a welcome change of pace from all the French food we had been eating all week. And washing it down with a nice mezcal was the icing on the cake. French food is amazing, don't get me wrong, but absolutely nothing beats Mexican food, in my opinion. I could eat it everyday! Add these guys are dishing up the real deal in the heart of Lyon. Check it out if you're missing a taste of home or if you're just looking for something not smothered in cream, butter and cheese!

In France, you can't be picky about Mexican food but when I ordered nachos and simply got 12 chips with toppings on them, I was seriously disappointed. It was a fancy restaurant's take on how to present a dish that should really be simply comfort food. And as for taste, meh. Three stars suffices.

I liked the interior and the vibe, although the way the waitress spoke to us made me think of being at Disneyland. She explained the whole menu to us. Nice, but we know what fajitas and guacamole are. We both went for fajitas, which were very nice. The guacamole was a bit too acid, but the cheese was fresly grated and the bean puree had the perfect mix of spices. We were enjoying good food, a good night. So far, so good. Until my friend found a freakin' kitchen magnet in the guacamole! What the hack. Those things are the size of a 1 euro coin, how is that even possible? We lost our appetite and even before we could protest, the waiter grabbed all the food of the table and returned it to the kitchen. He tried to make up with tequila, but because I had to drive we had to do it with an alcoholfree tequila for children? Not very happy with the way they responded to this big error, which for sure is going to be a good reason never to go back to this place! I know Iron is good for us, but a magnet in my food is way out of line.

Let me tell you why I paid this place a visit twice in 3 days! Atmosphere/Appearance: Right among the cobblestone streets in the surrounding downtown area is this gem. It's a lil' hidden and is only distinguishable by either looking through the big windows or the lil' sign that hands right above the stone archway. The interior design carries in that older European architecture that's present right on the outside. There's lots of stone everywhere, big picture frames, a small bar at the back of the restaurant and the see-in kitchen to the left. There are only a few tables so be sure to have reservations or some good luck! Lol. Service: Stéfane (@stf_nws on Instagram )is the owner/operator/chef/bartender/everything. Lol. He was SO FREAKING COOL and so chill. Despite having to literally do everything in the restaurant, he did it with a passion, with style, with flare and with love. You could just tell he put his soul into this restaurant and into this food. Food: On both of my visits I went with their big gourmet plate. I can't remember the official name of the plate, but it was gigantic. Lol. It comes with a plate FULL of smoked goodies! Beef ribs, pulled pork, sausage, chicken and the choice of 2 sides. For my sides I went with the beans and side salad. My goodness. Everything was FANTASTIC and smoked to perfection. I don't even wanna single anything out, but the ribs FLOORED me. They were so incredible juicy, smokey and full of flavor, but you can't go wrong with any of the components of this meal. Value: I can't remember the exact amount, but I believe my plate was around 35€ and absolutely worth it. In conclusion, do I even need to tell you how much I loved this place? It was intimate, tasty, affordable and gave you such a great experience. I can't wait to visit this place again!

He found a table for us even though the place was booked solid. Make reservations. Our meals were fantastic. The burger was a chef's creation and superb. The mixed meats plate was enormous and also superb. Don't skip his cardiac fries. Not typical fries. They're chunks of potatoes maybe fried, roasted, or sauced. I don't know. But they were magical. Don't skip them. Not much English is spoken, so we muddled through with Google translate. We ate what the chef suggested and we were thrilled. New World Smoke is a true hidden gem. Glad we found it.
