My mom and I had a reservation here made my our hotel concierge, and we were excited to try a place that had been recommended to us. We showed up, and I told the waiter we had a reservation (I said hello to him, he barely said it back...weird after our experience at Le Sud where the entire waitstaff was greeting us). Immediately, he was cold to us. It looked like it physically pained him to be seating us.
Anyway, fast forward thirty minutes. He hasn't looked at us once. We manage to make eye contact, and he trudges over. I asked a question about the wine list, and he couldn't answer it so said he would bring his colleague (very abruptly I might add). The colleague comes, and when I explain what we usually like to drink he suggests something, and says if we don't like it he can have us try something else. Perfect. 15 minutes later...nothing. No water, no wine, no looks in our direction. Tables around us getting food, wine, water, dessert etc etc and we don't even have the wine we ordered. Both of us understand that restaurants can get overwhelmed and things can take ages, but this place wasn't even half full so there was no excuse. We had such wonderful and attentive service everywhere else we went in Lyon (I got so many lovely compliments on my French, and people were so happy and smiling all the time...generally more friendly than in Paris I found) that this was such an anomaly. I wouldn't waste my time ever setting foot back in this place again based on how apathetic the staff was to us. Food looked decent-ish, but of course after 45 minutes of waiting we decided we couldn't be bothered and left. If we waited 45 minutes just for wine I can't imagine how long we would have been waiting to order food.
We ended up walking into the old town and choosing a cute little tapas restaurant, where we had a lovely meal. The staff was super friendly and really helpful with recommendations. read more
