Deliciously moist and flavorful chicken. Piping hot and perfectly cooked. My beans and rice were very uninspiring, not bad just meh. Over 15 minutes for my order to be served at 11AM on a Tuesday? First time here, had open mind, I stayed with the staple menu item that I judge all Mexican / Taco shop restaurants by. CarneAsada Plate. The meat was way over done, beef jerky style here folks, the cook back there must have fallen asleep. Hint to cook, meat needs to be juicy and flavorful. Beans and rice was bland, no flavor what so ever, cold as well. The best part of the meal was the hot corn tortillas. The place has potential, however, they need to be on the ball and not dropping the ball on a carne asada, rookie mistakes and it shows that this place needs a pro in the kitchen. Recap, bland side dishes, and overdone meat. Also, no guacamole but just sliced avocados. Bring on the guac, what kind of Mexican food place has no guac? And I mean Mexicano guac, not some watered down mixed sour cream crap. This place is alright, however I've had much better. The food is pretty decent but the wait times are out of this world. I find myself spending my entire lunch waiting for the food to be made regardless of how many or few people are there. It hasn't proved itself worth the wait. read more

I love this little Mexican shop. We found this place on a whim, we just happened to be driving by as we live in the area. They have a pretty simple menu- if you're looking for carne asada burritos or nachos, or any of those other Americanized Mexican food entrees, this is not the place for you. This guy and his wife make the best grilled chicken with onions and peppers EVER. You've gotta order the chicken- it's the best and I'm pretty sure that's their staple. You get tortillas, beans, rice, and some of the best peppers and onions that come with the most moist, juicy and flavorful chicken. They also have really good little street tacos and occasionally some other special items added to the menu. It is also run by the nicest family ever. Since we've been coming here so much, the owner has gotten to know us, and he is seriously the nicest man. You just gotta try this place, the chicken is the best around and it's made by the nicest family. Can't go wrong. read more

Found this place through yelp and went there yesterday and had the chicken soup and a 2 piece chicken meal. Let me start off by saying the soup will definitely bring me back! The Chicken meal was very good a couple of notches about El Pollo Loco and they give you 3 tortillas not the usual 2. Well I went back today yes today with a couple of my co-workers and the food was once again on point! This time I got the tj taco plate with 2 al pastor and 1 carne with rice and beans. They were great and they are not shy with the amount of meat they use. I also got 2 more soups to go for my wife and sister yea its that good! read more

Good! Really good, actually. Clean and friendly and the food was good.. Limited menu, but I sometimes I think that is good. Good fresh brewed iced tea - always a baseline for me at restaurants.... I have two things keeping it from 5 stars... One is that they have to go and get ice from the back for the iced tea. Yeah - it's silly, but if the counter is busy, that can take a while. I "get" it - iced machines are expensive and they must not have a lot of request for it, so I'm just happy that they HAVE fresh brewed iced tea! But that was odd. The other thing is that it seemed a little pricey for a small Mexican, no frills place in a no-name shopping center. BUT, having said that, we'd definitely go again, just knowing that the price is a bit more than we want. SUPER nice! read more

This place so far has been the best Mexican food in Poway. The restaurant is clean inside which was the first thing I noticed walking in. The menu is a good size menu not too many items but has a good variety of items along with family size items as well. I tried the carne asada salad, which was full of flavor. The menu above the items does tell you what is inside the salad, tacos, etc. The reason for my 4 star is when I read the menu it stated the salad contains " lettuce, tomato, avocado, croutons& cranberries". Upon receiving my salad I saw there was red onions inside which was not mentioned. I asked the lady if I can get a new one since I didn't know there was onions as I am allergic to them. I did get an attitude when I told her I could not eat the salad. I feel it is important to mention all ingredients if that's how you display the menu. read more

This review is based on one visit but we plan on going back. Ordered the taquitos plate and another 2 piece chicken plate. Pretty good flavor on everything but the meats --al pastor, carne asada, and especially the chicken-- was on the dry side. Went at a slow time though so maybe that chicken was sitting around for a while as I'm sure it has to be partially cooked in order to serve it in a timely manner. This place is simple and unassuming set back in a strip on Poway Rd but don't let that fool you. This is the best chicken I've had in San Diego. It's so flavorful and juicy but not greasy due to the masterful cooking on an open flame. The servings are generous and fairly inexpensive. The restaurant itself is bare bones so don't expect much beyond counter service, but the place is very clean and friendly - which makes up for the lack of ambience... and the chicken is simply amazing.
