Didn't plan on stopping long in Del Rio but had to deal with a tire issue on my motorcycle so stopped here for some breakfast and planning. No mask requirement for customers but the staff wears them. The decor inside is indicative of traditional Mexican restaurant. You order at the counter then they bring your plate to you. I ordered the huevos rancheros and a breakfast burrito. We had been camping and hadn't had a meal in almost 24 hours. Was hoping to get some really good border town Mexican food. They brought it out pretty quick. Honestly when I saw it I thought more diner food. It didn't wow me at all. The huevos rancheros comes with two tortillas but they don't put it in a cover so they got hard very quickly. The eggs were more poached than cooked also. The beef cubes were ok. Nothing to write home about though. The breakfast burrito had same issues. A couple minutes after I got it the tortilla was hard. Not a bad experience but certainly didn't live up to what I was hoping for. read more

You have to order at the counter so if you are new to this place, check the menu beforehand. They charge for chips and salsa, I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that does that. The red enchiladas are ok but I had to add salt and they are not spicy at all. read more

Try somewhere else. The service was horrible, waiter was rude and only came to take the order/ give the food. Most plates my family received were low quality, tasted bad or seemed heated up. This was the Nachos I ordered. Majority of the chips, the cheese and weird sauce were burnt. I have heard that service was bad from other reviews and I can confirm. read more

Let me break it down for you, since I was confused when I walked in. At first glance, it seems like it is sit down and be served style, but it's actually a walk-up order counter - which I am ok with. It just took a minute to realize that and I had to ask the cashier (but then again, this is coming from the same guy who walked out of a restaurant today and only realized he forgot to pay because someone called me before I drove off LOL!). I'm not the most observant sometimes! So, step on in, head left to the counter, choose your bottled beer or other bottled drinks out of the cooler, step up to the register, place your order, pay, and take the number placard and then go find a table. They give you a cup for fountain drinks, and you take that and fill it yourself at the soda fountain. I had the chicken enchilada suizas for $8.99. The plate includes (FOUR enchiladas - count 'em folks!) rice, refried beans, and a small salad on the same plate as most places do. If I am trying a new place, I usually taste the rice and the beans separately, to judge their flavor, and then mix them both together with the salad and then scoop it all into a flour tortilla and get a "bonus" taco out of my meal. The enchiladas were ok, but not a whole lot of flavor to them. Tried to spice it up with the salsa verde (since that is usually spicier) but it turns out the salsa rojo was MUCH better. The rice, the beans, and even the flour tortillas had a "burnt" taste to them even though they didn't appear to be burned. Not sure what that was about but I ended up mixing them all up with the salad into a flour tortilla and it wasn't too bad. No chips and salsa were delivered with this meal and although they were free, I had to get up and ask someone for my flour tortillas - yeah, first world problems, I know. It's a very spacious sized interior with several long tables and tables that can be pushed together if you have a large group. Don't expect anyone to wait on you for refills, drinks, etc. - all they do is drop your food off. You are on your own for everything else - which I am ok with as long as I am aware of it before I go. read more

My family used to love Don Marcelino's growing up but unfortunately the quality of the resteraunt has drastically changed. I don't expect much from a a kind of "fast food" place but as soon as you walked into the place it reeked of moth balls and an unpleasant smell. We ordered a variety of dishes like the steak tacos with beans and cheese, nachos and guac. The cheese wasn't fully melted as shown in the pictures and the guac wasn't fresh. The upside was the staff was incredibly nice and friendly but unfortunately due to the lackluster food our family will not be returning. read more

When we walked in it was very crowded luckily we found a table it was like most taco places in del rio .One thing I noticed is that it had a Weird smell and i got used to it over time but in the beginning it was quite irritating. We ordered (I got bean and cheese tacos and steak tacos on top of that)and it arrived 10-15 minutes later .we all dung into our food after a few bites I noticed something weird Tasting I tried to ignore it but every bite made the taste worse and worse.that's when my mom and my sister complained that that their food ( they got the same thing as me) tasted weird as well we all stopped eating. We were all still hungry so lucky us our steak tacos came just in time. Once again we all dung into our food thinking that something was just wrong in the bean and cheese tacos.when I bit into the steak tacos it tasted well....old like the meat was 2-3ish months old and well I stopped eating that to. In the end I left with 10 bites of who knows what and an half empty stomach read more

Stopped in here for a quick lunch. Marcelino's was a place my local family recommended for good Mexican food. I ordered the bistek ranchero plate. It was ok. Wasn't wowing with flavor or spice. Had a chili powder taste, honestly. Large portion with two grande (fresh) tortillas, though. Bar was closed to only had ice tea. It was good but I doubt I'd return with numerous other places to try. read more

Huge disappointment! From outside looks nice building but inside - fast food made fast & disgraced. Salsa terrible like a water . However prices are like nice restaurant- matching but not quality of good. I couldn't eat anything there . Wasted time and money. read more

A big disappointment. Back in the day the food was great. Not to mention the macho burger which was what made them great along Salas. Stopped ordering those burgers since they turned into just normal plain burgers that you can get at any other joint. Limited menu really suxed. So I ordered the "Mexican" what a joke I should have just ordered the 4 enchilada plate. Better yet gone to taco bell. The Mexican plate which is around $10 not including a drink!!!!! Consisted of 2 cheese enchiladas a small portion of beans and rice plus a rolled tortilla with what appeared to be ground beef in there. Wtf really. That was no Mexican plate!!! NO chips and salsa and NOT even tortillas to go with the damn plate!!!!!!! Cheap bastards Definitely not coming to waste my money here anymore. read more

You order and pay for your food at the counter before you sit down. Food is priced like and taste like cafeteria food, but is delivered and served to your table like a traditional restaurant. I had the cheese enchilada plate. I cant recommend this dish. I did like the rice and beans. 4 enchilada plate with rice, beans and a tea $12. Affordable place to eat. I gave it 3 stars. They did have 4 enchiladas on the plate. read more

Don Marcelino's Restaurant - Some light gift shopping available inside. - Mexican Near Me - Del Rio, Texas

Don Marcelino's was one of my favorite when visiting Del Rio. However, the food is not nowhere close to what it used to be. The guisado tacos were the best in town. Big tacos with lots of tender, guisado meat with refried beans- one taco was enough. Now, the tacos are smaller, they add very little meat, it's mostly refried beans on a burned tortilla! I understand you may accidentally burn the tortilla, but this is not the first time I receive burned tacos. I get my tacos to go on my way back to Houston and since they know I'm not going to "see" my food and I'll be long gone when I see my burned food, they don't care if it's burned! See for yourself. read more

First, you order at the counter and pay at the counter before you sit. So if you don't have cash to tip ask to add tip to your order before you pay out. Second, I ordered the Huevos Rancheros plate. The tortillas came out before my meal. Tortillas were somewhat warm however, when my plate came out tortillas were already cold and hard. Third, the breakfast potato's were cold and somewhat mushy. The bacon I order was cut into tiny pieces and very chewy. Seemed like yesterdays bacon was warmed up for my meal. Beans were good and over easy eggs were placed on top of a corn tortilla which I really liked. Lastly, the service was good. I sat for about 30 minutes and she visited and asked if I needed anything several times during my sitting. I do not recommend this place for breakfast. read more

So, the boyfriend likes this place, based on past rosy experiences. I haven't had those experiences. It's the kind of place where you place your order at the counter and grab your drink, then they deliver your food. Not my preference, but okay. Seemed to be clean (other than the stickiness on the salsa containers on the table. Ick.) Ordered the Suizas Enchiladas, based on the boyfriend's recommendations. Well, they taste like your mom made. If your mom didn't use salt, pepper, garlic, onion or any other spices. Bland, bland, bland. Yes, you get 4 enchiladas, which I suppose is a deal. They are very small. I gave 2 of mine to the boyfriend. They use both white and dark meat. Also something I don't like. Even the beans needed salt. There are far better enchiladas, yes, even Suizas. Not that hard to find. I don't plan to return. read more

A decent place for a good price. Right on the main strip, so very easy to get to and find. Limited alcohol options, and somehow they were even out of Margaritas. Service was quick and friendly. You order first at the counter from the big board and then they bring it to your table. Decent spot if you are in town for the night read more

Stopped for lunch at this restaurant had enchiladas and refried beans. Seems the restaurant is the local hangout for the local Mex-Tex crew.

Tacos tapatios are the way to go here. Nobody makes them better in town. Their refried beans are also good. Nachos leave much to be desired. Thin chips. Microwave melted cheese. Service is virtually nonexistent. Don't expect refills, etc. You order at the counter and that's probably the last you'll see of the staff. Margaritas are extra tart and not at all satisfying. They used to serve a variety of specialty drinks, but since they closed their bar down, they only have one drink aside from bottled beers on the menu: Plain tart margaritas. In summary, stick to tacos tapatios, and get them to go. read more

This is our third time at this restaurant. The first time the food was great. We tried again in September and the chicken enchiladas we're cold. We decided we would not spend our money their again We decided tonight to give them a second try. We ordered the chicken suiza. After a few minutes of being seated our food was brought to us. I was suprised because we just ordered. The enchiladas were cold but the rice and beans were hot. I called the waitress over and asked if they could heat the food up that the enchiladas were cold for me and my wife's plate. The food came back a few minutes later and to my surprise the enchiladas were still cold and not warm. I spent over $29 dollars but they will never get a dime out of us again. We left the food there so they could see for themselves how horrible it must of been for people to leave their food and ice cold beer without drinking it. read more

Got a tip that this was one of the best Mexican restaurants in Del Rio. Inside is clean with Mexican trinkets on display and for sale. A little confusing ordering food at the counter. Also disappointed that chips & salsa weren't free, but they were delicious, ($2.79). Ordered the 4 tacos meal with beans and rice. No complaints! Enjoyed my experience here. read more

When in Del Rio this is the Mexican food I crave! #10 is my go to. And I've been told that their chicken enchiladas are some of the best people have ever had. And their tea is always fresh! Now. This restaurant shines for breakfast and lunch. Dinner can be hit or miss, and you will have to buy chips and salsa. Regardless, I love this restaurant and it isn't a trip to the lake without a trip to Don Marcelino's! read more

Dinner was excellent! I had a #8 and my husband had the #7. Good portion size. Each plate came with 4 enchiladas and rice and beans. I love it when I find a place that has great food and hole-in-the-wall appeal. I'm really sad that Don Marcelino's didn't really meet up to what I expected after reading the reviews and even having the folks at the hotel tell me it was the best in town. I had the queso with chrizo. They serve it with chips and I wanted tortillas which were extra...no biggie. It was good, but it's hard to mess that one up. My daughter had the nachos and they were good. Downside...I like to think I'm no food snob. I don't have to have table cloths and what not to be really happy with a place. However, I don't think Don Marcelino's could have passed a health inspection that night unless someone had literally burned the place down and doused the ashes in bleach. There were flies. I don't mean one annoying fly buzzing around my table. AND NO, they didn't come in with me, so don't even try that one. In addition, there was a glob of goo...looking like a half-eaten food chunk IN my tea glass when it arrived. I can only do so many gross factor things in one visit. The food here was good, but I won't go back. read more

Awful. Couldn't even eat half of my dish. Ordered chips and salsa as well. I had to talk to the cashier cause the waitress never came over. It was burnt chips with tomato soup. The best food in Del Rio comes out of a certain Mr. Zuniga's kitchen, but you won't get it unless you date (or marry) one of his daughters. Tough luck. You'll need to make do with local hangout, Don Marcelino's. (Disclaimer: I'm a New England gringo who occasionally visits scenic Del Rio, which is sadly no longer the wool and mohair capital of the world.) A local fixture, it's actually pretty good. It's not the mind-blowing mayhem of a Mexican Easter picnic, but it has some standouts. The enchiladas and skinny little flautas are drenched in cheese and sauce, the way I like it. The horchata is American-style, but good. The kicker, of course, is the perricos, a plate stacked with perfectly-done nacho chips topped with refried beans and guacamole. Comfort food done right. Note, there are two Dons in Del Rio and one in Uvalde. I can't remember which is which, but one is more sit-downy and nice than the other. The food is good in all of them. read more

The first time my boyfriend and I went here we both got the #9, the Mexican plate I believe, and it tasted good. We also got the chips and salsa the first time and it was more like a tomato soup than salsa. We went there again tonight for dinner and ordered the #9 again and it was awful. The sauce was burnt and everything was extremely greasy. We also ordered some tortillas and they were bad as well. They were very thin, hard, and smelt like they were rubbed on an armpit or were made with bad ingredients. It's safe to say we won't be coming here again. read more

This place is a has been at best. Over the years, the quality of the food has declined to the point that when I see the Don Marcelino's sign one word comes to mind - manteca (lard). Only people who do not know what Mexican cuisine is supposed to taste like find this place appealing. It's so ironic that I get better Mexican food in Houston than anywhere in Del Rio which is a border city. Such an irony and disappointment. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! This place has the worst customer service I have ever seen at a dining facility. I visit Del Rio, TX every summer to visit extended family. Both times I have chosen to eat here has left me astonished at the lack of service. The last taking your order will stare you down and rush you for your order, even if you are the only customer. Very rude, and gives you a mean look. Then the waitresses are extremely slow with getting refills. Nevermind the refill, it was well half-way through my meal before even getting my drink. As I started to walk up to make my own drink, one waitress rushed over to say she was on her way to get it for me. I left no tip at all (first time in years). I will never go to this restaurant ever again, and I will continuously spread the word to people from out-of-town to look elsewhere for good food with good customer service. read more

Awful place to be called a restaurant. The kitchen people try to cheat you out of your food by serving salsa only. I ordered a bistek ranchero and all i got was peppers and salsa. She asked what i wanted to do, i stuck my fork in the sause fishing for meat and asked her if there was any meat besides the sause. I asked to have the plate reserved.
