The park is located behind and beside a small area school. There are at least four officially mowed and lined soccer fields. I watched a huge pick up game being played here on a Sunday evening. No doubt it stays popular. There's a large field in the back corner bordering woods which seems less user friendly but might be more useful for setting up a small fairgrounds. And, naturally, there's a massive playground here next to the school. A crosswalk connects this side across Tom Short Road to the Nature Preserve area. The preserve seems to be a much newer installation. Nice, small parking area. A new building with bathrooms, a good sized picnic area and a large grill. Trash cans - please don't litter here! A nice map of the whole complex including the park across the street. There's a dirt and light gravel nature trail about 0.8 miles long that winds through the preserve. It passes by several descriptive signs for the trees and upland swamp. There's even a concrete boardwalk that goes over the seasonal swamp and through this unique ecosystem. I really like it here. A pleasant walk in nature just on the edge of Charlotte and close to home.

The Nature Preserve, that I explored today, is 42 acres of entirely undeveloped woodland bordered by homes. The hiking trail loops around behind the parking area and bathroom building. Mostly level and not paved, the trail has little elevation making it an easy loop for the younguns. There are a small number of parking spaces here. At the park across the street and bordering the school, three decent sized soccer fields and a large playground. There is enough parking here on non-school days.

This is a nice, quaint park. Nice amount of space for walking, riding bikes, scooters, etc. There's…read morea great sized playground here for different age groups, one more directed toward toddlers/smaller kids, with swings in the middle, an obstacle course/rock wall, and a bigger kid's playground with lots of slides and bridges! It's a nice place, and has a basketball court, picnic tables/shelters, bathrooms, lots of shady trees, and even a beautiful memorial garden to honor a fallen cop. There's a small dog park as well, and plenty of fields to practice baseball or softball. There aren't any trails to walk here, just cemented pathways around playground, memorial garden, and baseball fields. They do also have a horse shoe area that's tucked in the woods near the baseball fields. My son and I really enjoy this place, it's not fancy... but it's nice and kept pretty clean. There's even a little historical museum on the property, some cute bridges to walk over, and exercise equipment placed outside all around on the property as well. Definitely think you should pay a visit if you haven't yet. It's a nice, little hidden gem!

Adjacent to the Locust Elementary School, this large park is either "Locust City Park" or "Officer…read moreJeff Shelton Park" and since I'm adding the business, I'm going with the latter. A large baseball complex with one huge field, two medium fields and one small field, there is a football field, tennis courts and soccer fields. The baseball fields are surrounded by a smooth walking path that measures 4/10ths of a mile. Or take the path near the dog park for 3/10ths and that one has some ups and downs for extra calorie burning. Horseshoe pits, batting cages, and even three structures with restrooms. Lots of parking, but if the south entrance is full, try the Lion Club Drive entrance next to the tennis courts. There's no parking that I could find. We parked on the street in one of the nearby neighborhoods, but I'm not sure if you're supposed to do that. The park is pretty small. There's a small playground and picnic shelter. It had what we needed, but not much more. If you need a place to eat takeout, this will do the trick. Otherwise, there's not much to explore.

I definitely need to explore this park a little more but all the areas I've been to here have been great. The bathrooms were clean and well lit too. It seems like a great park for team activities and events. There's also plenty of parking!

Open since April 2017, Fairview Park's main feature is the fabulous walking trail that loops around…read morethe lake. Each loop is a quarter mile. There is a very nice playground for the kids with a restroom building that was unlocked this morning that has a water fountain. You'll also find a large covered pavilion with picnic tables.
