Imagine my delight on my first trip to Hawaii and there's a Donki nearby. The immediate rush of excitement filled my veins. The inside is as chaotic and busy as a donki in Japan, although this location (because this is the only location I've been to in Hawaii) seems to be merged with Safeway a bit with the items it held so it's almost double the overwhelming yet still fun to browse and walkthrough. It's bright, it's massive, and I'm sure you can play a mean game of tag inside, but don't. While there was a ton of items that almost swayed me, I only opted for a couple bags of cookies and a little hot wheel for my husband. read more

We went specifically for veggies but the selection was subpar on 4-29-26. Either old, moldy or not fresh. Did however buy cherries but was pricey at $18 at checkout. Also bought hamburger, pork chops, snacks for the grandkiddies and hubs put a custard pie into the wagon. Added kim chee, pickled cucumber too and a couple more items. This place is great. It's huge and much bigger than the one in town. You can find almost anything you need. They have a huge food court that's on the inside and air conditioned. It's still not done yet. They have two stalls that will be opened soon. They have a huge snack section, beauty, produce, meat, seafood and frozen items. They have a poke department and a big fridge filled with sushi. Yum! I love their chirashi bowls and scallop nigiris. We went around 7pm and their sushi were all discounted. Score! They have a huge parking lot in the front. We didn't have any problems finding parking. I just wish that they were closer to town. read more

I love purchasing bentos from Don Don Don Ki! Often times when coming in the afternoon or night time; there will be reduced prices for the tuna onigiris and hot bento boxes. I specially love the tuna onigiris and the corned beef and cabbage! I also noticed they added a microwave in the dining section of the store which will be a game changer for purchasing ramen in store then lounging around and you get to control what you eat and microwave if you choose to stick around and chill. Love this!!! The self checkout is an easy process but you'll need an associate to help you receive your discounted item. As always, Don Don Donki is always a favorite grocery store of mine especially because I tend to drive this area daily. The ready to eat food options are incredible. This is a huge supermarket and I haven't even been to all the sections, because I mainly go for groceries and Japanese snacks. They have a ready made food section as well as food vendors. I personally like this grocery store because they have Japanese sweet potatoes! I'll also get pantry staples like sticky rice and adzuki beans here. It's great that there's a Japanese grocery store on the west side and it's so conveniently located. The Costco and shopping center is right down the street. read more

We easily came to the store at least once a day during our stay out in the area. I think I was initially drawn to the store just from the fun name, but realize it is a variation of the Don Quixote stores in the area. Inside is a massive grocery store with an overwhelming amount of Asian foods, snacks, and various household goods. It reminded me of grocery department stores in Korea, such as Lotte Mart. I still have their Don Don Donki theme song stuck in my head as that was played over and over on the stores loudspeaker. Pro parking tip: park at the "east end of the store" where the exit is located. So when you're ready to head out there's less effort in walking back and unloading to your car. This place is massive. Unless you already have studied and know the entire layout of the store, be sure to give yourself at least 30 minutes to park and look around. This is absolutely such a game changer to pick up snacks, gifts, or things that are more challenging to find outside of Japan. The best part of visiting family in Ewa instead of staying in town? Proximity to Don Don Donki. This place was insane and I'm not sure how I'll ever go back to a regular Don Quijote. First off: The snack selection is elite. Endless rows of Japanese snacks -- including my personal favorite, specialty Pretz flavors -- including some killer deals for $1-3 items. Freezers and fridges filled with ice cream (single servings and full size), canned coffee, prepared food, and more. Hawaiian goodies with aisles of their own. Everything from basic ingredients to skincare items surprisingly intuitive to find (though you WILL get distracted). Plus, most of it is pretty affordable. The entry to the store is filled with casual food, sit-down restaurant, and soon-to-be dessert options. (Side note: SO excited for a convenient Maruwu Seicha location to open up here!!!) Don Don Donki Kapolei the newest addition to the Don Quixote family. Lots to see and explore there. We finally got to see and try their bakery. It's kinda hidden next to the self checkouts. They have a good selection of Ted's Pies . We tried their freshly baked pastries. One sweet (Anpan) and one savory (a Portuguese Sausage pastry). Both were delicious . We went in early and also tried their Okazu counter located in the back of the store next to the Meat and Seafood departments. Nice selection of Bentos , Roasted meats, Hot and Cold entrees (some from the self serve kiosks (charged by the pound) or at the counter fronting the kitchen where you can get a plate lunch for a deal. I like this donki better than the one in town. This new donki is definitely more spacious and the layout is not as confusing. They have a good selection of meat and groceries. They have poke, bentos and some hot food just like other locations. They have a small hot bar but not that many options. There is a food court area but most of the stores are not opened yet. I got some household supplies from Don Don Donki in Kapolei , their super Don Quijote. I've been here a few times. They are one of the few stores that carry Phiten products. I picked up their tape discs. When I went to the Kaheka Phiten Store - in between Donki and Pearl BBQ - the ladies that helped me gave some sample titanium infused discs and tape. How much of it is the "placebo effect" is hard to say...but positive thinking does allow for quicker healing. It is a huge store, formerly K-Mart. Several food option in their indoor food court; the Kaploei location also has an outdoor dining area. Lots of parking and with both Popeyes and Chik-fil-A opening up...there's a fair amount of traffic. read more

The reason for my four-star rating is that it is in Kapolei and, as a townee, I was so nervous about driving there because my out-of-town guests had heard about it. My shop-a-holic friend filled her shopping cart with candies and snacks to more than $400 worth of overflowing!! I was no angel either. Five stars is an understatement! I am a total fan of Donki! How much so? I visit at least twice a week..visits range for lunch to picking up stuff for dinner. I think once I even went 3 times in one week... I love that they usually have everything I need and prices are reasonable. But what's also awesome is that they carry cool things from Japan. I usually go during the work lunch time so it's never too busy. I'm not too sure how they are during the weekends but there's still plenty parking on their side and the side by the theater. The store has 1 entrance on the left and 1 exit on the right so I'd suggest parking in the middle of the lot. First stop off the plane and right to Don Don Donki! We walked around to check out all the cooked food first. They do have the food court in the front with different stalls, but if you go into the actual store you can find cooked bentos, tons of poke options, sushi/sashimi and more! We purchased everything to eat and then went back out to the food court to eat. I really enjoyed the poke bowl and the yubu with salmon and tuna! Afterward we went back in to actually shop. This store is huge! Tons of toys, snacks, and actual groceries. It's a one stop shop for everything! It's a great first stop if you're visiting the island to get anything you need, but also makes a great final stop for any last min souvenirs. I tried the poke from the poke counter and the lady was so nice! I was an hour from my hotel and I ordered a large container which she provided me ice to keep it cold. I definitely recommend this place for poke. Read the signs though. Fresh is better. read more

Like everyone said the only downside I can see is there only one entrance than you'll need to exit one door . Lots of Japanese snack and produce from Japan . I like their restrooms they're located once you enter also there's restrooms near the exit . Lots of food vendors to choose from in the food court area . I was there around 9:00am and no crowds yet lol . The trick is to go early because everyone says it's very busy during mid day . YES, there is a difference between the DonQs on the island. And I am that person who calls is DonDonDonKi on Donki - there's a difference LOL As far as similarities across the island, the groceries are the same, the shelves are stocked, and that theme song has no end. It's smart for them to not stray too far from what they are: a grocery store in Hawaii that allows residents easier access to groceries more commonly found in Asian grocery stores. It also stays true to it's Japanese roots and has the hot potato available, food ready-to-eat, and an eating area to follow. What makes it different is the food other DonQs on island are the food stands. They have a wide range of food available in a variety of price ranges. Of course, in the store you can buy poke, sandwiches, and snacks. Then, when you pay for everything you walk straight into the dining area. The first store you see is a coffee shop (of course) and right across the way is a sit-down conveyor belt sushi restaurant. I tried the self-serve wagyu ramen and I'm looking forward to trying the karaage stand next. What I thought was very unique/funny is that you can tell they really thought of reducing theft LOL. You enter from one side and exit from the complete opposite side. And the building is LARGE so if you park on one side, it's gonna be a looong walk to the store or leaving the store. Although, recently, you can now enter/exit from both sides, but the registers are only on one side of the building so either way, it's a walk. Also, it's quite narrow and there's not much room to run past the registers if you're trying to get away. Jokingly, I wonder if the person who designed the floor plan had this in mind as a priority. read more

We had some time to kill after shopping at Waikele Outlets, so it was the perfect reason to check out Don Don Donki's only location in the US. According to Google Street View, this used to be a Kmart store, so the footprint was large. EXPERIENCE: The highlight were their numerous in-house eateries which included a big sushi restaurant (Waka Sakura) and spacious communal dining area. The prepared foods were impressive as well. The rest of it was traditional supermarket with an emphasis on Asian foods. They also sold products you'd find in a Don Quijote but on a much smaller scale. I read about Don Q opening a new location. Leaving Kaneohe, the Like Like was closed and they diverted the traffic to the H3. Since I was going in a different direction, why not check out the new Don Don. It is kinda far but good for the Kapolei community. Entrance on one side, exit on the opposite end...ok, so I guess I'll park right in the middle. This location is huge! What I like is the wide aisles, and everything is spread out. It's an interesting layout so I just wandered around. I did get a new water bottle and some mochi peanut snacks. Oh and lanyards for work. I did self-checkout and someone had to help me with the security tags. I didn't see any place I wanted to eat at, but I was hungry. I didn't even see any bentos I wanted earlier. Maybe next time. We drove 40 minutes to this Donki. Was it worth it! You bet! If I didn't know any better, I was back in Japan. The space is HUGE! Clean and bright, you can definitely get your Japanese fix here. Everything from camping to automotive supplies. Cookware, dishes, ceramic knives. I could spend hours here. Then there is the food. Poultry to Wagyu meats. Don Don Donki is such a fun shopping experience! This is part of the Don Quijote family. This location is located out in Kapolei, so not the most convenient for me, but I definitely did wanna check it out. It's a large store, larger than the Don Quijote in Kaheka. They do have some of the basic similar items, but the Don Don Donki is much more expansive. I really enjoyed seeing what types of imported foods they had, and also the prepared foods. You can buy fresh sashimi there, and they even have some small restaurants inside, including a sushi restaurant. Definitely wanna come back and try the sushi restaurant! I was hoping that they had some of that wonderful strawberry mochi dusted with cocoa that I found in Japan, but they didn't. There was some mochi available, however, the selection was limited, which surprised me. I spent a lot of time in the beauty section, although at times it was difficult to know what each product was since it was all in Japanese. My son was excited to see the Legos, Pokémon, and Godzilla. Going to Don Don Donki is a stretch for me; especially since I can go to a sister location in Honolulu or Pearl City. Call me a lemming! Everyone I know is going here so I'd better check it out. The upshot is it's new and its clean. Parking availability better than Honolulu or Pearl City. Inventory? Well, I'm not going to complain because shelves were well stocked, and I suppose being new, they had a few items with special sale prices. But the part I liked most was they had TONS of the Jonetz bonito flakes that my felines live for. It's a hit and miss at the other locations.... so does that mean I'd have to drive the distance for the Jonetz bonito flakes? ... My felines think so. Checked it out the first day we arrived and it's ginormous!!! And so spacious too. Love it. I feel like the other locations are so cramped and the aisles are so close. Love the variety of Asian goods and varies from grocery, to toys, body care, hot prepared food, cold prepared food, sushi, and everything under the sun like gardening things and bath essentials from other countries. We used to frequent this place when it was Kmart, so it's interesting to see how they laid everything out. Just like the other locations they have ready made food and bentos in the store but they also have a food court when you exit. The only hard part is there is one entrance on the far left and the exit is on the far right. So parking may be difficult especially if you're with a senior who can't walk so easily. Don Don Donki is your typical Japanese big box discount store, and if your looking for a particular Asian item, I'm sure it can be found here. Huge is an understatement at Katsumitei. I got the mega size and it was the size of my head. I also got the regular size as a portion comparison. To purchase, go next door to the chicken karaage place in the food court of Don Don Donki Kapolei. Then they will give you one of those vibrating/flashing pagers to tell you when your food is ready. This store is huge. The parking lot is also huge also. We love Don Quijote in Waikiki and in Japan so we had to check out this store in Kapolei. It's located less than 15 min from the Disney Aulani Resort. It's very far from the Waikiki strip so you'll definitely need a car to get here (About 45 min drive). It has just about everything you need in an Asian supermarket. The prices were reasonable too. You should do your Hawaii souvenir shopping here since it has everything you need. We bought food at the fridge section and sat at the food court to eat. It was pretty good for supermarket food. Sushi and Egg sandwich Rating: 3.75/5. We ate at Wagyukushi at the food court also. The beef was very soft and tender. It was def a 5/5. Since this place is so new, there aren't many food court restaurants yet. read more

This review is specifically for the poke bowls. Usually I'd go to Foodland but Donki's poke taste more high quality than Foodland. Got pre frozen spicy ahi, furikake on rice and unagi sauce on top and it was so delicious!! I came here twice in one week for lunch. Love how how spicy and extremely saucy it is (I am a sauce girly).
