Stopped by, looked at the menu in the window and noticed there were a lot of locals inside, which to the lovely K and I is always a good sign. We were quickly shown to a table right in the middle of the room, which would not typically be our first choice, but it was just after lunch and the place was hopping.
Our waiter turned out to be what looked like to us to be one of the Senior Gentlemen of the place. He had that air about him of being in charge, not in a bad way at all, just comfortable in who he was and his place in the restaurant. He chimed up, "what a beautiful lady you are Madam he said looking at K..... and then looked at me and said, and you, not so much!" We enjoy places like this where the wait staff aren't robots, have some personality and a bit of bite.
We hadn't planned on getting much more than a snack to tide us over until dinner. We ordered water, and were asked, you sure you don't want a Peroni, and glass of wine? We ordered one of each, and pondered the menu.
I ordered the Don Chisciotte Pizza and K the Zuppa Cipolle. Both were delivered quickly and piping hot. The soup was not what K had expected and was not in her mind a baked onion soup, whereas the pizza was outstanding both in its size and taste. The crust was wonderful, and I thought we would be taking some back to our flat. Boy was I wrong! Between K and I we mowed that pizza down with K even eating the anchovy that was on it with no complaints.
We would have ordered another beverage each, but as is typical in Italy once you have your food you are left pretty much alone.
One negative was the single washroom that K used, it's unisex, had no seat and was far from clean. Again though, it's a local eatery that looked filled with locals and likely not basing their business on the tourists.
The food was good, the service entertaining and the bill reasonable. read more
