The menu was huge, so it was a little challenging to decide what we were going to order. My husband and I split two different chicken sandwiches--one hot honey, and the other a grilled chicken sandwich. The kiddos got chicken nuggets and a cheeseburger, and the portions were great for kids' meals. My mother-in-law got a mushroom Swiss burger, and although all of our food was good, she was definitely the winner! Giant burger with tons of mushrooms and cheese, caramelized onions and steak sauce.

But she didn't come back to take my order. I waited 10 minutes. So, it wasn't like she was working with other customers. She either forgot about me or blew me off. That's too bad. I had heard good things about the Village Inn, but I had a terrible experience.

I ordered a French toast sandwich (on their website for the Forest Lake location) and they had ZERO clue what that was. They eventually figured it out. The egg portion has definitely gone downhill. Absolutely ZERO chance there's even a half egg on the sandwiches! I've been a loyal customer for years and will NEVER be back. Horrible. I hope you lose your franchise. Oh, and look at the napkins. I've been having problems for a while, like adding too much salt and pepper making it too salty to eat as is. I dealt with it by just scraping off as much as I could see. But in just this last month and a half alone, my husband and I ordered twice, each time for 2 footlongs: 1 cold cut the other 5 meat(?) sub. The first occasion? No meat on subs. EITHER ONE OF THEM. Husband was so mad he walked to store (car at garage for repair) and got it fixed. 2 days ago, we stupidly ordered again and my cold cut had nothing but cheese on it. His was surprisingly fine. We're done. 2 times missing meat. I suggest you go to the Subway in Wyoming, MN instead unless you like having oversalted, meatless subs. I'm rating it as a 2, because they are harder to get removed and this Subway in Forest Lake does NOT deserve your business.

I do wish that the main tables weren't spaced so close to each other, but it's not a very large restaurant. The only thing that I would say could be better, is the noise level. This could be based on the overall size of the restaurant and how many tables there are, I'm not positive. The last few times I've been there, it's been so loud, it's like being in a biker bar on karaoke night rather than a nicer restaurant. But overall, I think you'd be happy choosing Mallards in FL for lunch, dinner, drinks, or apps. It's a solid choice.

I get you may have a fee with credit card charges but debit is immediately withdrawn from my account and this seems like a money grab when you need customers to survive. I did not dispute because it's not the servers issue. I already pay a lot to eat out and tip on top of that. It's just not cool. Sadly my 20% usual tip was less because of this fee. You're hurting your own employees. Just a bad look and lots of other choices. Sorry.
