Huge portions and the best Cuban in Jax!…read more Blue Boy Sandwich in Jacksonville has the best Cuban sandwich I've found in the city, and I've been looking. What we got: Cuban Sandwich: Everything you want in a Cuban is here. The bread is pressed and toasty with a nice crunch on the outside and soft on the inside, and the layers of roasted pork, ham, Swiss, and pickles are perfectly balanced. Every bite is savory, tangy, and satisfying. Fried Oreos: Soooo good! And the portion is HUGE. I'm not exaggerating when I say you get your money's worth. It's generously stacked, filling, and easily one of the biggest sandwiches I've had. Come hungry, or plan on saving half for later (though you probably won't want to). The quality matches the size, too. Nothing feels skimped on or thrown together. It tastes like a sandwich made by people who know what a Cuban should be. If you're in Jacksonville and craving a real Cuban, this is your spot. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. Tip: Go hungry, because the sandwich is bigger than it looks!

I stopped by for lunch after being invited to try their Cuban sandwich, a fitting challenge for a shop that has built its reputation on oversized portions and doing things the old fashioned way. The bread is baked in house, the mojo marinade is made from scratch, and that attention to detail shows up in every bite. Calling this sandwich "large" doesn't quite capture it. It's enormous. Thick enough to make you question your strategy before the first bite, and easily enough food for two, maybe even four lighter eaters. Inside the soft house-made bread is a generous stack of mojo marinated pulled pork, thick slices of ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard. It's substantial without feeling sloppy, every ingredient has a purpose. The timing of this visit couldn't have been better. I had just returned from two weeks in Miami, where Cuban sandwiches and Medianoches were part of my regular diet. Those flavors were still fresh in my memory. Blue Boy isn't trying to recreate Little Havana. This isn't served on traditional crusty Cuban bread, and that's perfectly fine. This is Jacksonville's interpretation, a Duval Cuban that respects the original while confidently doing its own thing. The pork is juicy and packed with citrus and garlic from the mojo. The ham adds saltiness, the Swiss melts into every layer, and the mustard and pickles provide the sharp, tangy contrast that every great Cuban needs. It checks every box while carving out its own identity. Some sandwiches are lunch. This one is lunch, dinner, and maybe tomorrow's snack if you somehow manage not to finish it all. Blue Boy proves that honoring tradition doesn't always mean copying it. Sometimes the best local classics are the ones that confidently become their own tradition.

Went back the next day for another quick lunch and had a delicious chicken breast, avocado, lettuce & tomatoes on ciabatta and a great salad. Prices are fair and service is quick. I ordered a half of Pastrami & Corned beef on a very nice rye bread that was lightly toasted and a Greek salad. Most tasteless meat I have ever tasted. I have had a lot of Pastrami and Corned beef in my life and this was not anything that even looked like deli meat unless. It looked. Like it came straight out of a Hillshire Farms Deli container. Served with standard yellow mustard. I go into a restaurant that advertises the word "Deli"? They should be serving real food that is representative of a delicatessen. Sorry to shatter all the previous 5 Star reviews. I can't understand how people just except anything?

Both of these were very good. My husband ended up getting a chicken club or something because they were out of the two the things he wanted to try. He also ordered the bacon and cheese tots. His food items were very bland , no seasoning. He did not enjoy it. Overall it was ok, maybe it was the rush.

This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. I ordered The Ole Smokie, with everything on it and choose cheddar cheese. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. It's worth noting that both sandwiches were big enough that we both took half of each home. I didn't get the name of the two people that were working there this evening, but I'd still like to give then a shout out. They were both incredibly patient with the customers ahead of us and they didn't make us feel rushed even though we were there fairly close to the time they close on Friday evenings. Another good visit to Clarke Bros. Here's hoping it doesn't take us so long to get back here again for the next visit!
