Barberton Tree Service - Storm damaged tree

Just go with a ma & pa shop tree service that has been in business for a decade or longer and has…read moredecent reviews maybe even on the better business bureau. About 10 years ago Barberton Tree Service was doing work in 3 large maple trees that are literally right in the middle of the property line. My neighbor was having some large branches taken off the 3 trees. As they moved in the bucket/boom they went ahead and lopped off small dead branches on their way down as long as they were in the general area of where they were already working and they were like 4" in diameter or smaller. Fast forward 10 years to today and it was like an entirely different company was there. 1.) they told my neighbor when she signed the contract with them that they would not need to pull any equipment onto her driveway, everything can be done from the street i.e. the crane, and any booms/cherry pickers. 2.) I asked how much it would be to take off a couple dead branches (maximum 6 or 7) all of them 6" or smaller in diameter most about 4" in diameter. Guy says, "oh, we have estimators that come out and do that". Remember: they told the neighbor nothing would be pulled onto her driveway or in her yard and it would all be done from the street. Immediately when they arrive, they start putting heavy plastic units to protect the yard for when a boom/lift drives onto the yard to protect from tire/track marks on the yard. Which was effective, however, she was told prior to signing contract nothing would be brought onto the lawn. Next, the massive crane truck backs into her driveway and leaves cracks all over her concrete apron. Anytime, the lady would point at minor dead branches they were annoyed. It was as if they just wanted to remove the 2 large branches with the crane and that was it. They were in such a hurry to get to the next job that they had no focus or paid no attention to the customer that they were currently dealing with. If you hire this company and they say they are not pulling anything heavy into your yard, have them put that in the contract before you sign. Make certain that everything is readable and understandable in that contract.....and read it thoroughly. This company has gone from a ma & pa shop that cared about its customers like they would care about family, to a large conglomerate that is focused on rushing from one job to the next, to the next, to the next, etc. and so on. In the companies defense though, remember if a company has 30 different crews; one would have no idea which crew is being sent to their job i.e. names on a good review might now be showing up to a customer's job. Also, a suggestion if you want them to do a better job, you might want to ask to be the last on the schedule for the day. If you are first on the schedule, they most definitely are going to rush through your job. Wouldn't doubt if they get bonuses for getting jobs done extremely quickly, which would explain why they don't trim off any minor dead branches on their way down. I wouldn't hire them to rake my front lawn. UPDATE ON REVIEW 4/23/26: Then, to make matters even worse you can see the response from management. Not taking accountability for anything that they did or did not do. I never tried to solicit free labor/services; the review that I left clearly states that I was interested in getting a quote preferably while they were there to prevent such a ridiculous amount of heavy equipment traffic that was already in place. Instead of sending someone out to give a quote they were gone in about an hour. I never asked for anything for free, literally asked for a QUOTE/ESTIMATE to take 5 or 6 branches. I was actually going to remove this review for my neighbor's sake but then I saw the owner's response about asking for free work which is completely not true. "Slander": (noun) 1. the action or crime of making a FALSE spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation. The owner should understand the word "slander" before they accuse someone of a crime. Still trying to figure out what was stated that was false. The only thing in the entire review that is FALSE is the owner stating that I was asking for something to be done for free. I also never stated that I did business with this company. I stated that I wouldn't do business with this company. My question is this: Is there anything that was written above that the owner is saying is false? If so, what is it? I would definitely be willing to remove anything that is false because I am not a liar and definitely do not like to be called one.

He told us stuff to look out for so the tree would not be damaged. Everyone on the phones was nice. Rob's crew that did the job was really friendly. Rob showed us exactly what he'd do and gave time to ask questions. The crew did a good job with the work. Rob checked with me before the job was complete to make sure I was happy and also checked with the neighbors to make sure they didn't want more cut over their property. He also pointed out some other trees that might have problems and cleaned some leaves off of our roof that were not due to their trimming but they did the extra service because maybe there were some twigs up there from the cut. Would definitely work with Mr Falls Tree Expert again.

This was my 3rd or 4th time using Falls Tree Service. I have always been happy with the crew who…read moreremoves the trees and they are reasonably priced. Payment is expected when the trees are removed and usually within 1-2 days the tree branches and trees are picked up. If you pay for stump grinding generally they arrive within several days. First off trying to get a return call was a problem. You often get a recording and no return call. I had an oak that was diseased and needed to be removed in the winter. I was promised a return call the next week, that never happened. Two months later the tree was finally removed, and after one week, no one had shown up to grind the stump which I paid for when the tree was removed. Finally after calling, someone came out to grind the stump, but the young man never communicated with me before leaving. So there was a stump that looked like it had not been ground completely. Granted I never went out to check. It took 4 calls to get someone out to check, only to be told the grinding had been completed, but somewhere in the process they forgot to pick up the stump. Here I am 4 weeks later and numerous calls and I still have a stump which I paid to have removed. I get excuses after excuses: secretary was fired, they are short staffed, man called off sick and that was why they didn't pick the stump up on the day promised. The communication stinks. They don't know how to pick up messages and return calls, they don't know how to communicate when they can't show up as promised. Payment is expected when trees are removed, but beware. If you are having stumps ground, do not pay for that service until done. The "boss", Joe, is very condescending, sarcastic, acts like you are a nuisance and has zero customer skills. I understand how unreliable workers are these days, but it is important for businesses to COMMUNICATE with customers. I never made Falls Tree Service wait to be paid. I know it is a hard job, so I even paid for their lunch. But this time Falls Tree Service has left a bad taste in my mouth regarding dependability and customer service. They are not the same business they used to be. My recommendation is hire someone else. I doubt I will ever see anyone pick up this stump, that I paid to have ground and REMOVED. This company has been nothing but a headache. I doubt I will ever use them again, because of the attitude, communication, and lack of trust.
