What can I say? It is important to me that I convey the dining experience my wife and I had at Domaine Michaud. We are from Seattle and taking four weeks to drive from Barcelona through the south of France and Tuscany and finishing our vacation in Rome. We are "foodies"- and to me, much of the enjoyment of the trip comes from planning- reading about where to visit and what to eat. So, when we go to a restaurant, I have done research and I have expectations. And, as I've selected a restaurant based on the reviews they receive, they are usually very high expectations.
In my planning for this trip, I dreamed about finding small, "off the beaten path" restaurants where the food was as good or better than Michelin rated restaurants. Enter Domaine Michaud- a luxurious B&B located about 25 minutes from Carcasonne. It is owned and operated by Jolanda Danen and her husband (and children). Domaine Michaud is a converted country villa that sits atop a forested hill and has sweeping views across the valley, including Carcasonne in the distance.
Domain Michaud includes a small restaurant (5 tables?) that serves the B&B guests and is also open to the public for dinner. There is no menu- dinner is simply what Mme. Danen wishes to prepare for the evening. I promise you that she is a superb chef. Our dinner consisted of several wonderful courses, with a perfectly cooked duck as the main course.
My wife and I regularly dine at fine restaurants, including several Michelin starred venues on this trip. Domaine Michaud deserves to be listed with the best of them. The drive through the french countryside, the beautiful villa and incredible views, the hospitality of Mme. Danen and her family, and, of course, the superb food made this an unforgettable experience for us. If you are in the Carcassone area, you must dine at Domaine Michaud- your expectations will be met! read more
