Excellent service great ambiance at night on a quiet street in the old town next to one of the old wells. The indoor seating is fine but we reserved ahead and had great table out on the street. As to the food the 18 E menu was incredible. We had the escargot (6) the meat skewers and the chocolate soufflé. All were top notch just amazing. If you love chocolate get the soufflé and thank me later. The house wine for 4 E a glass was amazing and the wine list is full of great stuff. We had a bottle of the Chateu la voute-gaspare and loved it . Have been traveling around spain and France for over 3 weeks and this so far is my favorite meal and that's saying something. read more

We stopped by the restaurant to make reservations for that evening, and ended up having lunch, which was roasted pumpkin soup (delicious). For our dinner we were seated downstairs, which had the feel of being in a castle. I had the 19.50 plate with escargot and squid. For dessert I chose the French Toast, Revisited, which was amazing! I was struggling between a 4 and a 5. I would say a 4.5 is perfect but I went ahead a docked a star because of how service ended. So we got there ten minutes before opening and we wait until they open. Two parties went ahead and and went in so we shrugged and walked in too. Perfect seating and it got busy FAST. So come early. Waitress (curly hair and glasses) was an angel, we let her know we were on a time crunch (on tour) and she completely understood and did her best to accommodate. Food: They STRONGLY recommend you get two tapas plates per person (even if you really don't want to). So we got a salad (duck), 4 tapas plates (squid, swordfish, foie gras) and the menu (12 escargot, duck, hard cream puff dessert with chocolate). The salad literally had a huge heaping of the foie gras and was the same price as the foie gras itself so if you want to try it, just order the salad because the salad is really good too so it's a good deal. Foie gras was good!! The best I've had so far, escargot was okay, duck in the salad was okay but the duck dish from the menu was very solid. Squid a bit too salty for me but cooked perfectly. Swordfish was not my favorite and I would not recommend. The chocolate dessert was also not that good (too sour) so I would recommend getting the other option. Bread is good and service is good until the end. By the end we were reaching out 2 hour mark for the tour (we spent all of it at this restaurant), so we were a little antsy and they were getting REALLY busy as well and seemed stressed. When I went in to pay as they told me to, I got ignored for 10 ish minutes and finally someone printed out the check without even looking at me or saying anything the ENTIRE time. So that's why I docked a star but our originally waitress was chefs kiss. Come here if you don't have a time constraint, but if you do, don't risk it. read more

Very disappointing. I had a mushroom with creme tapas and a Ratatouille tapas. OK, nothing outstanding. My wife had a salad with duck skewer and a slice of foie gras. The Duck was ok, but the salad was not fresh. However, the worst was the foie gras which just tasted like grease and half of it was completely melted.... She could not eat any of it. After we told the waitress that it was not good, when I went to pay to the bar, the owner did not say a word of apology, not to mention offering a discount. Never again... read more

Only slightly off the beaten path, which is a good thing, is this cute place with both indoor/outdoor seating. Grab an outside table for great people watching if you can. The staff were all friendly and helpful. But on to the fantastic food (we had all tapas size selections) in ascending order: The grilled swordfish was good but our least favorite. The escargot was different from others we've had, without the usual garlic butter taste we were expecting but still very good. The bacon wrapped figs were amazing as were the razor clams with their fantastic (cheese?) sauce. With 1 beer the bill came to 32 euro - well worth the price. read more

Delightful gem behind the walls of Carcassonne! Attentive and very friendly, staff and the food and wine was delicious! Tapas style plates; the razor clams in aioli and the cheese raclette were divine, as was the recommended wine. The only thing was the foie gras; it was pan seared and just not what we were expecting it used to; not bad just not the usual foie gras, a little too greasy for us. This place has a little something for everyone and if you can't find something you like here maybe McDonalds is more your speed. If you are adventurous like my wife, the quail, squid and escargot are delicious and the portions are generous. If your palate isn't adventuresome ( like me), the foui gras, grilled scallops, and beef skewer are incredible. I even liked the squid myself and I normally avoid squid like the plague. The service is great, since they ask you the order that they bring your food out if one of you is ordering a set meal and the other is ordering tapas. As we were seated outside on the terrace, it was special environment where the medieval castles were surrounding us. The service was super friendly, casual, relax but attentive. A fantastic French twist to tapas! L'escargot is a must try in Carcassonne. When we came in on a Tuesday night for dinner, this was one of the very few restaurants that was open and crowded inside the La Cite. Fortunately we got seated immediately and after browsing through the menu, we ordered: - White wine - Escargot - Duck heart - Foie gras with caramelized apples - Beef skewer with BBQ sauce - Chocolate cake Everything was delicious. Found L'escargot by accident while exploring Carcassonne... But OMG what an amazing tapas experience. Having been to Spain many times L' escargot really knows how to do tapas right! I had the swordfish, squid, razor clams, chorizo and the duck skewers...all were awesome. the waitress recommended a great bottle of local rose to accompany the tapas and it worked exceptionally well with all the dishes. This place was really the perfect lunch spot AND it was perfectly situated inside of a medevial city which was a bonus. We had the foie gras, cheese plate, and escargot, red table wine and a big basket of bread. Staff was really laid back complete with bed head, comfy clothes and their favorite music on which mostly consisted of a mix between 80's music and 1950's blues. Have travelled much of the world eating amazing food for years, and sometimes you stumble upon a place that's not great, but that's life. Yet, I cannot find any excuse for the MISERABLE FOOD and FILTHY service we experienced at this restaurant. Food was clearly pre-made, because everything was luke-warm on the outside an refrigerator cold on the inside. No, I'm not saying the food was cold from sitting out, I'm saying it was cold like you took it out of a fridge and barely warmed up the exterior before serving. Item after item was like this. THEN, they forgot to serve our ENTIRE table any plates so we had to walk up and ask for plates, and half the plates the guy handed us were FILTHY--Stuck on chunks of food and slippery oily substances. Had to take back the dirty ones to ask for replacements--the stacks of plates he went through until he found a couple with less gunk & grime, he then proceeded to RUB-OFF with his fingers and nails to get the stuck on food off before handing it back to us. FILTHY! We asked for the check and then noticed there were items on there we never even received, so now we had to track them down to fix the over-inflated receipt. The only nice thing I can say, is that the staff were nice enough, and are probably just workers doing their job as told to them by their superiors. I almost never leave reviews because I always give the benefit of doubt, but this was so Twilight-Zone bad, we felt it was a responsibility. You can do so much better, and so can this restaurant! read more

The manager is Belgian (and I'm Irish and we'd just been hammered by the Belgian soccer team) was great, in fact all the staff are very friendly. I'd recommend it. I'll be going back soon. My husband had the escargot and I had the tuna ceviche for appetizers. For main, we both had the grilled squid! For dessert we had the chocolate cake and the fruits. The menu was only 16 euros for entrée +plats + dessert. Super cheap for excellent quality food! The dishes were so delicious we could hardly believe it. Fantastic meal! Do not pass up the opportunity to experience fine French food on the streets of an ancient city. We selected several items from the tapas menu and the waiter brought them out in the appropriate order based on his experience which was a nice touch.
