Regular Bingo package- computer in the background, Paper cards and the dabber!
    Tia C.

They say you have to be careful when you play bingo because you can catch the "bingo bug." Well I'm shamed to say, it bit me bad this weekend! My mother was in town and she wanted to do something unique. Bingo was the choice and boy did we get bit bad by the bingo bug. We came back twice in a matter of two days and stayed for two sessions on the Saturday. It's quite the happenin' place! I'd also like to add theres not just little bingo grannies waiting at the tables with their dabbers. There's a range of people here, it makes people watching fun. The actual place offers computer cards as well as the classic paper cards. The prizes are pretty good, usually $1000-$5000, depending on what you need to dab on your cards. They offer a limited menu, I tried but I'm not a fan at all. If your going to eat here, I'd stick to the chips and chocolate bars. Even then, the selection is mediocre. Sadly, we didn't win a dime but I still had a blast!

I can only review the food as I get it delivered but tonight's fish and chips were excellent. Will update after I go there in person.

I know Ajax Downs Racetrack from two different angles. Over a decade ago, I worked in the gaming…read moreindustry. I wrote brief profiles about our clients. Ajax Downs was one of them. The other source was my manager. He had heard about the lobster tails dinner with prime rib at a cheap price, and wanted us to take advantage of it. I knew that a dinner deal like that (I think it was $14.99 at the time, but have no clue whether this deal is still on) would be popular. Waiting in line for a while for such a deal turned me off. I'd be hangry and no one needs to put up with that. A few weeks ago, Ajax held a walk-in ribfest at Ajax Downs. I had never been to this one. Frankly, the last time I had set foot at a ribfest was in 2018. I decided to give it a try. I did manage to see the racetrack while I was circling to find a parking spot. I wish that I had taken a photo, but it's etched in my mind. It's closer to the casino. You truly can't miss it, even when you're preoccupied with parking! It's a dirt track. It had greenery. It looked nicely maintained. There are live races from May till October each year. Most races happen on Wednesdays. Each month, there's a race day on Sunday, but I don't get how the powers that be decide with Sunday of each month will be a race day. It's best to check the schedule before you head over here to take in some races and perhaps strike it rich. I was there on a Saturday afternoon, so the racetrack was quiet. The ribfest was not. It was nice seeing it so lively. Vendors were dishing out free samples of popcorn and such. There were many food trucks, from Caribbean good eats, to lemonade. I did find a parking spot fairly close to the ribfest's entrance. I lucked out in the E lot. Parking was free. There was also parking across the street where it was more on grass. I got half a rack of ribs and coleslaw from The Hogfather. Ajax Downs is so vast that it supported six ribbers, and included a huge area for hungry eaters to sit and chow down. Ajax isn't horrible to get to. From Markham, the commute is fine, with a few options. Highway 401 gets you here fairly fast, depending on the time of day. If you like a more scenic and relaxed drive, there's Taunton or Kingston Road. Ajax Down is ideal for an outdoors event like the Ajax Ribfest. I had a good time. The Beaches used to have Greenwood Racetrack eons ago. It was nice seeing a racetrack again. Next time, I'd love to check out the Downs itself when I'm not grabbing takeout for dinner. (211)

There are also ample parking in large lots and at the condos. The Cineplex Markham here always has the most up to date Asian movies. So sad that Kiu Restaurant closed down, but we got the new brunch spot, 15th Avenue, that lives up to the good vibes :) Also, shoutout to my favourite drinks spot, True Boss, with the healthy enzyme/fruit vinegar drinks :)

Every time I say that I'm heading over to or hitting downtown Markham, it still sounds weird to me…read more I will admit that it is growing on me after a few years. Like downtown Mississauga, downtown Markham is fairly new. The notion was to create condos and have locals walk to businesses. Enterprise Boulevard is a pleasure to drive along to head there. Stores, condos, and new developments continue to be built, including York University's new Markham Center Campus in Fall 2023. Currently, York U. has YSpace Markham, which supports folks who are innovators in technology, and food, and beverage sectors. Before the pandemic, I rarely hit the downtown core. I only visited Chatime, ME-VA-ME, and Cineplex VIP. During this pandemic, I have been able to discover cool new places. Copper Branch. Comebuy. Poke Guys. South St. Burger. I love how cool the Marriott hotel looks here. One of these days, I'll need to book some time here and check it out, along with its fabulous restaurant. I am a regular bubble tea customer at Comebuy and Chatime. Who knew? I have been supporting both regularly for the past 1.5 years and have established a nice rapport with staff. There is only one Comebuy in the GTA. If I'm away for a rare couple of weeks, staff are literally concerned. One made sure before Christmas 2020 to let me know what their hours of operation were, so I wouldn't be disappointed not getting any bubble tea! There is plenty of parking. There are lots that are primarily free. I have yet to be asked to pay for parking. In front of Comebuy and Poke Guys, even where street parking isn't exactly available, parking briefly to fetch takeout is okay. I have yet to see any parking police come over and I am rarely parked longer than five minutes. There is an indoor merry-go-round at the northwest corner of Birchmount and Enterprise. I admire it from afar these days. It has been closed since the pandemic, but looked magical and festive around the Christmas holidays. Back in the summer of 2017, I came here for the Markham ribfest. It moved from Warden and highway 7 over here. I had an excellent time, despite getting caught in the rain and getting soaked trying to get to my car from the venue. I do miss seeing events downtown and hope that they return when it's safe. I like it here. It's constantly growing and changing. It's nice to briefly admire the lights in the wintertime and people-watch in the summer. (263)
