Five Acres Animal Shelter

Got my sweet girl from here about a month ago. She has changed my life completely, I didn't know I…read morecould feel happiness like this before. Thank you Five Acres for taking such good care of her. The cats here are very well taken care of, happy and healthy. You can tell the employees here truly do care and love for the animals like they're their own. We came in "just to look" and walked away with our baby within 45 minutes. The adoption process is very smooth, and I love how you're able to interact with all of the cats to meet them before making your decision. Such a wonderful place.

Since moving here, I've been hoping to find an organization to volunteer with. I decided to come…read morehere and check it out. I was impressed by the cleanliness and overall health of the animals. The cat house is amazing, and I loved how many cats were able to free roam around the offices and large room. So, I decided to start volunteering. In the couple of weeks I've been volunteering, I've been impressed with the staff. They work so hard and are so helpful to anyone who comes in. They genuinely care about the work they do and every single fur ball they meet. The place is so clean without having that whole medicinal and cold vibe you see in some shelters. The cats are generally happy and have all sorts of enrichment opportunities at their disposal. Five Acres also does a ton of services for the community. There's an entire area and staff dedicated solely to helping pet owners in need. That's awesome for anyone struggling to get back on their feet.

Humane Society of Missouri

So let me start out by saying the Humane Society has the vet center one one side and the adoption…read morearea in the other. There is plenty of parking around the building and even an area to walk your new dog (or walk one if you volunteer). I have been to humane societies in Texas, Hawaii, California, and North Carolina and this is by FAR the best one! Not only are the staff very friendly here but the place is pretty clean for having such a large facility and the amount of animals they have. Not only do they have dogs and cats here but also small animals such as rabbits, hamsters, and guinea pigs. I have never even seen another humane society have anything except dogs/cats. I came in the day before Valentine's Day and because I had looked online the night before and saw a cute chihuahua/min-pin mix listed on the site. I was not sure how often they update the site, so I decided to get up early in the morning and see if the pup was available still when the place opened. Once I got there I realized there were only a few customers there which was nice because it wasn't super busy. The lady at the front asked if I needed help and I told her I would like to see the two chihuahua mixes in the front lobby window. As I looked I realized that there were two cream colored girls and a black/brown boy. They had arrived from Arkansas and apparently were siblings. Originally I wanted the first girl, "Autumn" but wanted to spend some time with each one to see their personalities. As I played with Autumn a but I could tell that she was very timid and knew that would not work too well with my 2.5 year old cavapoo. My cavapoo is already very submissive so I was looking for a dog with a little more spunk. I then played with the other cream girl, "Summer" and quickly saw that she was playful and very energetic. She even gave me a few kisses and had no issue with me picking her up, touching her paws, looking at her teeth, or with coming to me. I decided that she was the one to get and hoped it would be a good match for the household. The adoption process was very simple, just fill out some forms and pay the amount for the puppy. Each dog is different depending on their age and if they are a desirable dog. I really wanted her siblings to get homes quickly (and felt terrible I couldn't get all of them) so I also put $50 each on the adoptions for her siblings. Summer's new name is Laila since once she was around my other dog she likes to paw him in the face as they play. I decided she should be named after Laila Ali and she is doing great! My other dog adores her and they love to play around and chew on chew bones. She is already crate trained and house broken too. She does have a few accidents every once in awhile but it was because she had a urinary tract infection. I have started training her and she consistently knows sit, stay, at ease, lay, get down, shake, and come here. Thank you to all the staff for helping us with the new addition to the family! She is so cute (and stubborn at times) and brings so much more joy to us!

I thought that I could come to a humane society that marketed themselves as a low cost clinic....turns out I'm $850 in the hole to spay my two cats. The price package was not well explained, other options were not given and when I asked for an itemized bill it was very underwhelming and lacked actual numbers. I called multiple people within the facility and asked for a breakdown and to better understand and got the run around. It's crazy to me that the humane society is that expensive. I won't be going back.
