Located just south of the Edmonton city cemetery and literally behind (north) of Oliver Square. It can be a little tricky to find the first time. I have friends that have found some fabulous treasures here in the clothing liquidations but I haven't found that hidden Easter Egg yet. The layout is kinda like a thrift store but way less organized. You need time when you come here to sort and sift through the garbage to find the gems. Also, sign up for their email online for advance notice of sales and coupons. It's a fun little liquidation warehouse but it could be improved significantly with better organization and layout.

You definitely need time to kill and openness to see something you might like. My parents and I have been here a few times. At first my mom was skeptical but now she gets excited to go. We've gotten a variety of clothes, toys, stationary, and household items. With some persistence and luck, you can find some pretty awesome brand names. I've seen brands like Nike, Adidas, Bench, Helly Hansen, North Face, Victoria Secret, Zara, True Religion, as well as brands from Aritzia and Anthropologie. I've also found some great Paw Patrol, Fisher Price, Leap Frog and Disney toys here. Items vary in condition from like new to very worn out. In general I have found most of the items to be visibly clean and without any bad odors. The other thrifters can get quite focused and somewhat aggressive when it comes to being first to pick from the newly stocked bins. The staff roll the bins in from the stockroom and into these allotted "parking"' spaces in the main room. You can gather around the newly brought in bins but the staff will indicate when you are able to dig into the items. Until you hear the go ahead, you are definitely not allowed to touch. After the initial rush, most shoppers abandon the bins and you are free to go through the bins at your leisure. You learn quickly where the new bins are coming in. It's pretty obvious when you see a group of people gathered around an empty space or full bin ready to pounce. They have large metal shopping carts but you are to leave these at the perimeter of the store. You are not allowed to bring these alongside of the bins. It makes me nervous to leave my treasures unattended on the sides of the store. They also have smaller black plastic shopping baskets on wheels which you can bring with you to the bins. This is definitely a unique thrift shopping experience. I joke it's like one step above dumpster diving. It's also a lot cheaper than going to a regular Goodwill store. When it's time to pay you roll your cart over this scale that's built into the floor. You pay by the pound. The cashier will then tell you what you owe. Don't get nervous because it's really cheap. I've paid $17-$22 for an overflowing basket of items. You can definitely get a big bang for your buck if you know what to get. I recommend bringing a garbage bag or large reusable bag to carry your purchased items home.

Admittedly the prices are a bit high on certain things but if your concerned with getting quality goods as well as shopping locally from a store that really values your business I think it is worth it here. I find that compared to certain other dollar stores, this one has actually fairly nice stuff. I bought some plastic dinosaurs there to be used as wedding decorations, and they're actually fairly realistic and stand nicely. Their craft section is a bit small (which is expected given that they're not a dedicated craft store) but they have a fair bit of stuff, and it's easily comparable to what you'd find at places like Michael's. I was impressed by that :) They also have some rather nice stationery & cards. Also, they do bulk orders as well, which is pretty cool (I didn't end up needing to do this cos it turns out they actually had 20+ bags of craft moss on hand, but I did call to ask in advance & they do it for people). Upon…read morearriving home, we had to figure out exactly what to do with it, as leaving it rolled up in its tube wasn't such an appealing option. Off to Kamena Gallery and Frames! We walked in and had a look at all the paintings on the walls while we waited to be helped. Before we arrived, I read a little about Kamena on their website. It sounds intimidating when you read they have over 1500 moulding samples in stock. With that many samples, this could take forever! Or at least that's what I thought. The guy that helped us was AMAZING. He rolled our painting out, took a good look at it, asked what we were thinking for a frame and starting pulling samples out (not super fast though, he was very thorough, got our opinions on each one as he pulled them out, and brought out the next based on our reactions). About 10 minutes later we had our frame chosen. The scary part came next, how much is this going to cost us? I may have gone to Michaels with approximate measurements to get a ballpark cost there, just to see. Not only was Kamena less expensive, they did a MUCH better job (we previously had a canvas painting framed at Michaels, it was alright, but the difference in workmanship is clearly evident here). Sooo, less money, better finished product, and more frame choices? We'll be back, obviously. This experience was utterly painless. It took what I thought would be a "chore", especially trying to get two of us to agree on a frame, and made it pleasant. I almost want to go and buy more paintings, just so I can go and get them framed!
