RePurpose Thrift Shoppe - Back entrance by parking lot

RePurpose Thrift Shoppe

This is one of those times when I debate with myself...should I say something about this place, or…read moreshould I keep it all to myself? Because in the world of thrifting, this place harkens to the old style - jumble of items, packed, run by volunteers for the benefit of a charity. You know, treasure hunts. I love treasure hunts. I'm on my way to downtown Lansdowne one morning and I see a simple wooden A-frame sign: "Re-Purpose Shop". Oooh. Interesting name. Will it be like a Habitat store? Something else? I turn on the side street, then into the parking lot of the church it's housed in. Hm.. No more signs. Well, that door looks logical, so I go in...to an empty hall and kitchen area...but wait, beyond that, some light. Ah! They have two rooms, and have partitioned so one is clothes and the other is 'everything else'. The shelves are packed and there's stuff along the floor too. Roughly categorized, it was so much fun rooting through and finding some cool stuff. The volunteers are very cool, one has a small dog who greeted me with a welcoming sniff, wearing his little doggy Eagles sweater. Aw. Then I was not interesting and he went back to whatever he was doing. This is not a place run by professional organizations under the mask of 'thrift'. It's not neat and super shiny. It's a mad wonderful jumble, and for a treasure hunter it's an absolutely great place to be. They're only open a couple of days a week. I had cash, I don't remember if they take plastic. Benefits the church's programs which include their food pantry.

[618] Driving down…read moreLansdowne Ave I see a sign in front of the Lansdowne First Presbyterian Church that says "Thrift Store" so who am I to pass it up? :) There is plenty of street parking where you can enter thru the front (middle of church) or park in back which you can enter thru the red door (thru hall then store). The small church basement thrift store expanded to another room for good reason. Tons of donations. The second room is stuff with tons of great bargains at a discounted price. The main room is filled with books, kitchen items, house items and a kids corner which is filled with toys and board games. The great prices along with the staff being super friendly is why this rating is a 4. Everytime I stop in I always find a great deal on something. Today it was a $1 under armour sweatshirt and $2 set of 8 pyrex bowls. I always stop in to see what new stuff has arrived and I'm never disappointed. Not many hours but that doesn't stop people. The place was packed. I'll definitely be back and if you're in the area you gotta check out the friendly staff and great prices.

5 stars for the store and products, zero stars for most of the staff…read more I live nearby and loooove Lidl and go there even tho I'm nauseated by the way cashiers treat most customers. You don't have to be high on life like they are at Trader Joe's. But if someone says hi, you say hi back. If someone says "how are you doing?" You say OK back. It's being human. Yesterday was just too much - the cashier with red braids and knuckle tattoos (not that I care about that, just trying to explain which person it was because they don't wear name tags) was beyond despondent, whatver, but then there was an older guy with a cane at the front who did not know how to use his EBT card. The cashier would just not help him. At one point, he threw his hands up and rolled his eyes when the guy did not know how to tap his card. Patience and kindness is lacking there. I found the guy in the parking lot after and told him the store is really great and not to let the cashiers rudeness sway him from not going back. But he said he he's not going back. If you're not a people person, or you, you're having a bad day - you should not be put on register. If you can't say hello to people, you should not be put on the register. If you don't have patience to help people, you should not be put on the register. Also, I love the bake bakery - but half the time I go they are out of 75% of the stuff which is so sad. They need to do more marketing. Maybe in East Lansdowne- bc crappy Expensive Giant is so packed all the time.

Consistently good prices and friendly service make this a regular stop…read more The bakery has plenty of sweet and savory items put out multiple times a day plus large French, Classic and Rustic baguettes. Some items rotate seasonally. I'm waiting for cheese pizza to come back, but liked the new scones and muffins. In moderation. I like their produce section more than Aldi, they have a consistent selection week after week. It's rare they're out of regular items like bananas or apples. Lidl tends to get rid of products without much notice so feel free to use the comment section in their receipt surveys if looking for something. Or ask when checking out. Some products are seasonal. The middle of Lidl has some good bargains. I found a water flosser and rechargeable toothbrush with a timer. My wife really likes their house brand ice cream chocolate almond sticks. I can get in and out pretty quickly even with just one line typically open.
