Reny's brings to my mind the old department stores that I now miss, such as Zayre's or Mammoth Mart…read more(or nowadays the equivalent Walmart), where you can find nearly everything you want, from jigsaw puzzles to travel cups to game-playing dice. But the search is easier without the vast expanse of those other department stores I named above. I have found the people are friendly and helpful also. We have a branch in our home town, and this one seems familiar and comfortable in its Reny's "brand." We went there because we are playing their Passport adventure, visiting every store in Maine for winter fun.

Every once in a while you'll strike gold by finding an expensive product at a deep discount. The place smells like plastic, the cashiers have to wear vests, and they have signs everywhere that read, "smile, you're on camera!" in what I can only assume is an attempt at both underhanded humor and simultaneous theft deterrent.

My bestie had never been to a Marden's before. This location is bigger than other locations that I've been in but I feel what makes it bigger is their furniture section which is HUGE. They also have a pretty big crafting material section too. I did see some brand name shoes in the shoe section. I picked up this super cute black with white striped backpack that I used as my carry on bag for my plane ride back home which after using it I was in more awh with it. Great price too! I saw a bunny in a shopping cart that was friendly & two doggies with their owner....must of been bring your pet to Marden's day?? lol Bathrooms were clean as they have some out front & in the back. I was surprised that they really didn't have a big beauty product section for shampoo's, conditioner's, body wash, etc. I did find a cat treat toy that I had found at a different location when I was home visiting in April that I told my bestie she had to buy for her cats & I got one for my co-worker. My bestie found a pair of VANS that she purchased for a great price & loves. I wasn't super impressed with this location. It also seemed that someone may have been caught stealing because when we were leaving their were undercover security & police causing a commotion. Marden's are ALWAYS WORTH stopping in!!

If you see a deal that you really want....don't hesitate, buy it, because it WILL be gone within a week or so. This location is VERY easy to find. A repurposed Kmart building, I believe... It's right off the highway, in fact you can see it from the off ramp to the right. There is plenty of parking even when it's crowded. I have never been to this location around the holiday, but I have driven by, and it is always packed! This locally owned retail chain, sells overstock, liquidation and salvage items. We have seen things from Amazon as well. It's usually so random, although they have seasonally appropriate items as well. When we have the time and energy, we like going through the clearance aisles...yes, they have clearance aisles in a discount store. The clearance aisles are only organized by the percentage off and so it's chaotic. Bring patience and a sharp eye for deals. We have gotten electronic peripherals and accessories. We also bought some great yard deals. While we didn't buy them, they had Robotic Lawn mowers with batteries for sale. This store is quite large and have things like furniture, appliances....so much stuff. If you are a patient bargain hunter, that doesn't mind being around people, you may like this store. Worth at least one visit.

They had so many options for running and walking shoes - colors and styles and really great discounts. We ended up buying shoes, all of which were at least 40% off. Such a great deal in a store! Usually I only see these types of discounts online. We bought some for me and some for my niece. I was also able to buy running gloves! The person at the checkout was so nice and upbeat as well. Such a great experience. I just wish I lived closer. Worth stopping to look at running shoes.

New Balance fair exceeds them in customer service! Their competitors don't even acknowledge you when you walk in. They are too busy with their faces in their phones! They never come to check on you. They have a selection of just about anything except fresh fruit, veggies and frozen items. (at least the last time I was in there, what do they have today? who knows!) Go check it out. They have an awesome selection of Bobs Red Mill items, even gluten-free. I wish the store were more out in the open more, easier parking, but I am so glad we have Reny's in Farmington!

It's never too crowded and the clothes are usually still very neat and organized, even on the weekend! (not sure about the summer/tourists months though) Our savings usually range from 40-60% and we always have purchased something when we have visited the store, mostly clothing/shoes. The staff / team is present, pleasant and helpful. Most staff is behind the register and there are only a couple of people on the floor stocking and organizing. Plenty of parking right in front of the store.

It is not the closest Hannafords to us here,but it is larger than our Dexter store, and therefore not only has a wider stock of items but often will have sale items not available in the smaller branches. The first time I went in was to check on using the Klynk system for returnable cans and bottles, but it all happens through the register lines rather than Customer Service and it was crazy busy so I found a nearby redemption center. But I have since shopped at Hannafords a few times and like it for the above-mentioned wider stock. We recently wanted to celebrate by buying some lobsters and steamers, and this branch had them. Since we only buy either item once a year or so, we were pleased to buy both in Newport while they were on sale. I still really like our small-town branch where everyone is helpful and friendly, but also thankful to have this larger Newport store just a dozen miles away.

There are a few things missing from this Shop'n Save's shelves that seem like they should be there, but the people who work here are courteous, pleasant, and will go out of their way to help you. Plus you know you are getting way better groceries at Bud's than at the land of the creepy smiley face. I know that I am spoiled living in Providence, where I can get my hands on pretty much anything I want within a 5 mile radius, but it's annoying not to be able to find something like semolina flour at Bud's and having to drive to the natural food store down the street. They do make an effort to carry some international foods (cramming many of their offerings under the "oriental" placard... *cringe*), and they also have a section of natural foods and household goods. Their produce, meats and fish are all fresh and good. The store is neat and clean and I always have a good conversation with the cashiers and baggers. For Newport, Maine: 4 stars.
