New younger lady in training was friendly and sweet. I'm imagining the gentleman who was training her was a manager and clearly great at multitasking while still providing friendly service. We were happily greeted and even paid a compliment about the kids demeanor by Cecil. When I walked in, everyone was super friendly and not just because it's a "five below" requirement but because they seemed happy to be there. Ironically chatted with other happy customers throughout the store. Kids enjoyed their stop and had earned it. Truly left a great impression and I just had to stop here and applaud this location!

However, they still have a couple of anchors left including Dick's Sporting Goods and Boscov's. Other large locations include the TJ Maxx and the Middlesex County Library. They're opening a Yale Health Clinic here soon, too. Other smaller stores of interest to me were Champ's Sports, FootLocker and Ramani's Clothier. There are some options in the food court, but not a ton. Only two places, Charley's Steaks and Tokyo Express were open when I visited. There's a Ruby Tuesday's and Cajun Restaurant near here, too. The mall is clean, which is nice. Easy to navigate, too. Altogether, Meriden Mall isn't the best mall, but it's nice and has some good stores.

She has, more than once, when I've checked out, negatively commented through judgement, both to me and about me to other cashiers and patrons, on my use of a non Marshall's credit card for my purchases. She even goes so far as to comment when I'm with a different cashier and she's working next to us. Once, I was with a different cashier standing next to her when my cashier asked me if I wanted to $ round up for a cause. After I said no thank you, this cashier, standing next to us, started making comments out loud about how she couldn't believe that I said no and then began judging me on how ignorant i must be and not have any awareness of the cause. Her behavior was highly offensive and hurtful as she has no idea about my personal experience and contributions to this cause. She doesn't know me but that didn't stop her from making humiliating out loud and inappropriate comments to me and about me. She negatively commented again just last week as I was checking out with another cashier. Since she won't stop doing this, I will stop going to this store and I will continue to share my bad experiences with others.

The item is a $30 pair of pants. As the return was happening I wrote on my phone and secretly showed the person at the register the situation and that I wanted to repurchase it for her later. She nodded and I gave her my name as we left. As soon as I got out of her car to go home I called and gave more info to have them hold until tomorrow morning when I could again. They told me they would not hold it over night due to their policy. Okay. I knew the policy cause it's been like that forever. I've also seen them wave it many times. Multiple friends over the years have worked here and has shared plenty of stories. I've also worked in stores with the same policy myself and there are always exceptions. I try to talk with the manager to ask if they could at all even until opening tomorrow and just kept coldly saying no. They told me I can come tomorrow and just buy it again as if it was so obvious. I explained how I don't know what the item was. My mother bought it and returned it and I never saw her try it on. So they said I could have it "described" to me so I could find it after. I ended up having to ask someone to drive me back out just for these pants because I wanted to do something kind for my mom. So from a business perspective 10/10 upholding a policy. As a person trying to do a nice thing where it result in a purchase and communicating with a business 4/10. Tact from manager and delivery of words chosen 1/10. Making my mom happy buying the pair of pants she gave up to pay bills with no job? Priceless. The manager was Jonathan btw and when I got there turns out they tried to describe a completely different pair. So they also just would have had me buy a totally different pair.

What can I say this place..it is a very basic supermarket. I like going here for a few reasons,…read morethey really mean "save a lot" and you will! If you don't mind buying off brand food you will be amazed as to how cheap some of the food is. I must admit I wasn't going to think it would taste the same as the named brand foods but when you have to feed 6 mouths at home, this place will save you some money, you can deal with change :) Keep in mind they charge by the plastic bag. So make sure you bring your reusable bags and hopefully you know how to bag your stuff yourself. The way I can describe save a lot is a not fancy Aldi's. Personally I think if they turned this place into an Aldi's it would get more traffic and would bring up the value of the location that it's in. The plaza that it is located in is not the prettiest to look at, people who park in front of the supermarket and leave their cars there is what really grinds my gears, and also the ones who don't put the carts back in the return spots and just leave them in spots where cars should go. The staff is friendly and are willing to help out when you ask but sometimes you may find it hard to find people who actually care about working there. Sometimes you barely see anyone at the register. So I'm not saying this place should be perfect, they are giving you a bargain on your food, but I would expect that in 2019 you should feel like your in a nice place to shop with everything clearly marked and easy to find, like at an Aldi's :)

The owner whose always there, is eager to help, especially when a wine buyer breaks the mold of needle-armed hookers sitting on the curb, bums and other riffraff motel roaches walking up and down the pike to buy Bud Light cases and lottery tickets. He'll remember you too, what you like and is willing to suggest strong alternatives for the price range. Though mostly cleaned out, found some incredible gems lurking in the shelves: long-retired vintages from 2005-2007 just waiting to be found of inexpensive Chiantis that tasted more than triple their value here. Wade through drug addicts from time-to-time, give your attention to Parkway Package but don't even look at the sad motel behind.
