However, I did find an insane amount of deluxe edition books that I love at the back of the store, near all their stationery products. As the bibliophile that I am, I couldn't pass up the opportunity and bought a few copies that will keep me entertained while freezing at the beach. Besides that, I also got some great deals on snacks and a few other items for the family. So at the end of the day, regardless of how odd it was not to find a single women's sweatshirt, I still got some great deals on other stuff.

Truth be told, I tend to be in flip flops or sneakers most of the time. This particular trip I was looking for a nude pair of sandals to wear with a dress for family photos coming up. Typically I'll just buy a pair of sandals on Amazon to avoid having to sift through a shoe department, but found a nice pair of heeled nude sandals that looked like they could be a winner. I tried them on, they were slingbacks, they had a velcro strap instead of a buckle, and they had a heel. They were also priced at $24.99, which was a good price. I looked around the remainder of the store, and luckily for me I didn't find anything else, because I really didn't need anything else. I wound up purchasing the sandals. Checkout was a breeze, the associate was nice. Parking was fine here, just be careful there are always people coming and going out of here.

I specifically needed individually wrapped candy small enough to fit in Easter eggs. I found several options. My favorite find had Bible verses on each package. I also found some Krabby patties, and a bag with several chocolate options that I would give to my 5th grade girls I teach at church. I also found the cutest Easter cross. I bought two, one for my house and one for a friend. I saw and had to buy two adorable decorative stones to put on my front porch. I purchased five bags of candy, two Easter crosses and two porch decorations for $28. I thought this was a bargain. Thanks Dollar General for keeping your prices reasonable.

My aunt and I visited the Jacksonville Seashells & Souvenirs store, and unfortunately, we felt racially profiled during our visit. We had been in the store for less than five minutes, simply browsing, when an employee approached us and asked if we were finding everything okay. After that, he continued to follow us down the aisles and stared at us in a way that made us feel very uncomfortable. We no longer felt comfortable making a purchase so we decided to leave but as we were leaving the store, the employee stopped us and requested to check our purses. He then threatened to call his manager and the police if we did not comply. What made the situation even more upsetting was that there were several other customers in the store, and none of them were approached, followed, or asked to have their belongings checked. The entire experience was embarrassing, humiliating, and left us feeling singled out. The employee claimed that purse checks are always required, but based on what we observed, that policy did not appear to be applied equally to all customers. Because of this experience, I cannot recommend this store. No customer should feel targeted or accused of wrongdoing simply while shopping!!! My personal view about thrift stores is that those who shop there see the value of the dollar & wish to keep more of it in their pockets by buying 2nd hand! I was raised on thrift stores and garage sales! The thrill of the find was always exciting on Saturday mornings as my Mom planned out our route like others plan out their Black Friday strategies. Needless to say, thrifting is in my blood! I've visited this Goodwill location for years, even through its various different addresses. I'd have to say this latest renovation and choice of staff HAS to be the best yet! Most of the staff are approachable and helpful upon request. The layout of the store is far superior to what it has been in the past! The toy aisle will ALWAYS be a disaster, as it's the 'babysitting' aisle while the moms shop! THE electronics aisle/appliance aisle needs cameras.... ALWAYS empty packages on it! All-in-all, the quality of merchandise is becoming better and better with each trip. With the exception of the bathrooms, the esthetics of the store have improved 100%! Removing the 'boutique' section is also a BIG PLUS! no need to separate quality items if you remove the tattered, torn, stained dollar store buys from the racks, instead. I do feel it would be more helpful to even out the quantity of items a bit better among all of the chain's locations!

I did find some heeled slides, a beach painting for my bathroom, several Jax shirts, a Bold City Brewery 5th anniversary glass and last but not least, a package of Smarties candies. No, not used or expired...these were brand new and in the checkout line because of great marketing. By this time you're hungry and more likely to by food after all that shopping. I think this store has some of the cleanest furniture I've ever seen in thrift. I didn't find anything to snap up this time, but thrift stores are great at turning product over- so I'll have to pop back in to check again for any treasures!
