For example, I was shopping today and just listening to the blonde tattooed chick at the register be really inconsistently nice or bitchy to different customers. One of the best looking DGs I've been to. The curb appeal was also pretty. When I went on a Sunday,…read moreit was pretty quiet. I try to go on Saturdays because you can use their $5 coupon. From what I saw, the shelves were pretty organized and clean. I did notice some employees stocking the shelves; hence the pile of items waiting to be unloaded on the aisles. They had a mix and match, buy one get one 50% off aisle that was disorganized. We bought two items and didn't get the second one 50% off. We read the fine print regarding which items were excluded but since the aisle was disorganized, we weren't sure if it was truly part of the sale. I think they should keep all items that were on this particular sale promotion in one spot so it's easy to find; items not part of the sale should be separated. Overall, it is one of my favorite stores and I'm glad that there is one close to me.

"If dirt were dollars We'd all be in the black"…read more(Don Henley) Today I sold 2,000 NY Yankee cards to a guy on Long Island. Yesterday I sold 1,000 Cleveland Indian cards to a guy in Salem, Ohio. I packed them both in a Post Office Flat Rate Box and I was surprised at how GD heavy those boxes were, so I decided to reinforce them both with some strapping tape I wrapped around the boxes in both directions. That greatly depleted what was left on the roll of tape. Which explains why we walked into this brand new Dollar General store in hopes of getting some new strapping tape at a decent price. Silly me ! A roll of that reinforced strapping tape was five and a half bucks.... at a Dollar Store! We saw similar sticker shock while walking through the grocery aisle and saw a normal sized jar of mayonnaise with a $5 price tag on it. The store is brand new, in excellent condition, with the usual array of grocery items, refrigerated and frozen foods, toys, games, household items, health and beauty aids, etc. We passed on the packing tape but did walk out with a few birthday cards and a bar of orange flavored dark chocolate. Watch your pricing carefully here, because the "Dollar Store" label can be misleading.

She had called for the manager to check everyone out. The manager saw us waiting, with all our purchases sitting on the counter. She went to the other register and started checking out the people behind us. My husband went over to tell her we had been standing there waiting to be checked out. She started yelling at us that she couldn't go on the other register, and how did she know we weren't the customer the cashier was helping. Ridiculous since all our purchases were on top of the counter. She could have looked at the register and known nothing was wrung up. She started crying and saying how she has always been nice to us, and we had no right complaining to her. I was very embarrased in front of other customers to have her yelling at us. We are customers, this is no way to treat us like this. Will never go to that store again.

There are just too many silly dollar stores in Kingston, so when I came into this Dollar General…read morestore a few weeks ago, I didn't have high hopes of finding really good deals on not-every day stuff found here. I was looking to find a car charger for my mom's car and although I was told I'd find the item in at least one of three places (depending on its quality and features), what I found was up near the register at the best deal of all. My mom's phone isn't a smartphone, so it didn't need to have all the latest gadgets and do-dads but it did need a USB plug-converted end. Yes, the purple plugs were a little more expensive than just a buck, but they are getting the job done for her. Now, I don't come into this store very often and anytime my mom comes in she spends too much time shopping, but what else can you say. It doesn't look like a store in the cleanest part of town, but it works when you are looking for something that needs to be cheap and isn't found at one of the other dollar stores in Kingston/Town of Ulster (Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, etc) I still don't think I'll be shopping here much because of these limiting factors, but it seems like a good place others might go if you take the proper precautions (locking car doors and such). You won't find many brands here when it comes to everyday items. And those brands you will find are brands you probably will never have heard of, so keep an open mind when reading these names. Employees here are generally nice -to a point where it bothers me a small bit. They don't generally greet you when you enter, and I highly doubt they noticed me had we not have asked where to find the stuff we needed. (A small selection of dollar stores greet you and remind you that they are around if they are needed, but this isn't one of them.) Quality trumps quantity and you get quantity over quality here with not much care to quantity being shown to the customer. It's not overall dirty here -as I always kind of expect to find these dirtier stores, but there's this look and feel of 'stay away' in my book that will keep me away (but no t my mom who picks random times to come back in again).

I stopped in today because it was on my way home and I thought it might have a few diverse items I needed all in one place. Two out of three, so there's that. But the lone cashier, who was polite at check-out, was cranking some extremely offensive (and it does take a lot to offend me at my age) music that featured the lyrics, "The first time I f*cked a white woman." Really? Not appropriate in any retail setting. Keep that kind of racist crap to yourself, in your own home. I'll go the extra mile out of town to visit the DG in Lake Katrine, which is well kept. Never this hell hole again.
