This Family Dollar is not in "the hood" and I felt the difference immediately. Shelves were fully stocked with quality items. The floors were clean. Lines moved quickly. On two occasions that I've been to this store, management will run offensive announcements over the PA. The first time it was, "Please don't steal." The second announcement was a rambling, whiny missive about how stealing isn't allowed. These announcements could've been about anybody, but it didn't matter. I felt profiled, because it was made just as I and a handful of other people entered the store. I would've walked out right then and there but if I had, that would've looked like I was one of the people the announcement had been aimed at. So, I bought my stuff and then vowed to never shop at this location again. It's always funny to me when corporate-owned chain stores open businesse in low income ethnic communities but then turn around and do something like this. There are an entire slew of mom and pop businesses on this street--including two bargain basements-- and never in the 30 years I've shopped at them did I ever feel they were being "besieged," to the extent of making overtly racist PA announcements or feeling profiled. They just have everyone do bag checks and go old school with the Wall of Shame.
