At the risk of hyperbole, this is the greatest Dollar Tree ever. Located in a shopping center with dozens of people sort of just "hanging around," ostensibly contemplating their lifetime of bad decisions that led them here, I didn't have a lot of high expectations. However, imagine my delight to find an expansive store with lots of diverse inventory... including lots of things I've never seen at other DTs. We grabbed a few items for our "camping Thanksgiving" meal... served under the redwoods at our Patrick's Point site just up the road a spell-- serving trays, a cheap tablecloth, and even one of those gaudy Turkey centerpieces that everyone enjoyed throwing in the campfire after our meal cleanup. Also grabbed a few toiletries and a big can of name brand pork n beans... because I just like having a can of pork n beans under the back seat of my truck. Not sure when I'll be back in Arcata, but considering how much we road trip, I'm sure we'll visit this store again. read more

The store manager, Issac, should not be employed at a job that has him working with the public. He is beyond rude verging on the edge of being violent. I had an incident with him in the dollar store and the next day he came at me again in a threatening manner in the Ray's next door. It's a dollar store. Better than most, but when you've been in one - you have been in them all. Same basic lay-out as others, this Dollar Tree is located to the left side of the shopping center as you pull in to the parking lot. Opens at 8 am. Usually pretty quite in the mornings, and pretty much always busy on the weekends. All of the staff I have encountered are pretty friendly. This location charges a "bag" fee now. So bring your own to save some money or expect to be charged for their store bags. They do make boxes available for free up at the front usually. The store is always well lit and clean. There are a fair amount of transients in the center, they usually do not hang out around the stores entry, but occasionally you might get pan handled. Though I have never been approached, I have seen people be approached going in and out of the store. Store management handles it pretty quickly when it does, the times I've seen it happen. Joshua was my check out person-doing a great job eventhough he is up there all alone. TWO MANAGERS in store this am and WOW tention is uptight No music on at 8:30 Am Requested music six times including from one manager whose name is probably Isaac. After I left the store I thought those poor employees or the poor shoppers because some of them please get to listen to either EarPods while others like Joshua is actually doing a great job is totally robbed of any harmony. When I tried to call the store the number here on Yelp is disconnected. So now I find myself writing a yelp review because while in the store although there was two managers there no one helped me and no one bothered to turn on any music even though a customer asked again six times. Everyone knows the music creates better shopping experience and a better atmosphere is for the employees. If I were to rate Joshua himself he would get five stars but unfortunately this is more of a negative review for the managers who aren't paying attention to customers, that is harmony of the store and worse no one's even updated their yelp phone number. I would have happily just told the manager of my concerns for shoppers and employees but when you get the loud disconnected when you call this phone number then you end up writing a very long guilt so if you're just looking for a dollar store yeah sure that's a good place but if your management reading this you could do a lot better job. I go here because it's close to where I live and it's routine. I am always able to get what I want and get out. The staff is very friendly. This store is well stocked every time I go. If they don't have a particular item, I can ask for it and get told when the next delivery comes. I show up again and it's always there just as promised. read more

Very bad don't shop there there return policy not at cash reg. They only take exchange but that is against the law. I'm planning to take them to small claims court for a lot more if they don't refund plus a little extra for gas. I wrote the following to Corp. You have no return policy on the cash registers or anywhere near. Which is against the law. If not posted you need to return the items. Here Costco takes returns years later Wal-Mart and target takes anything back in 90 days. Even the dollar general is the same as WAl-Mart. I had a defective cable she was very rude the asst manager. She said hang onto it and bring it back. I just want my money and will never ever shop at your stores again. If the return policy is at each cash reg that is different I would know. She said look at bottom of receipt. No returns. Your contact page on the main website has to be the worst ever. Hopefully your company will go under. I want my dollar and change back even if I have to spend more I will and file with small claims court I will. If you want to send a lawyer etc to fight it be my guess. I will also be posting on our website etc to stay away from your store. You don't get a good deal at all you just cut back the size. Example the cake mix you sell is half the size need two and will cost 2.00 at Wal-Mart or target on sale you get normal size for 1.00. This is by far the worst business I have encountered in Arcata. The employees are downright rude, aloof and lack care for the customers. The one employee that was efficient, caring and nice is no longer there. Management is lacking in professionalism. The store is well lit and has a lot of windows. That is basically the only upside to this store, other than some rare gems that pop up occasionally, like chia seeds, items seem to be of low value and quality. This store feeds off of the ignorance and unawareness of the general public. I am disgusted. I have asked for help multiple times from different employees and am literally blown off, as if my request lacks any value to their time. The place reeks of desperation. Once I even saw an employee spit at a customer as they walked away. If you have the option to shop elsewhere, I highly recommend that you do. I have a friend that was employed there briefly and have heard many horror stories about employee morale and treatment. Of course, for a dollar tree it does have a good selection of plates, cups, and cooking supplies that will hold you over until you can afford something better. Don't bother buying the food here as it is empty nutrition. If I could I would throw a bag of burning poop into the building to show my disgust. read more

This is definitely the best $ store in the county. The selection of merchandise is better than any of the other stores & just as important, compared to other $ Trees I've been to (not just in Humboldt but all over Cali) this one is THE cleanest I've ever seen. read more

Gift wrap, greeting cards, helium-filled balloons, party decorations, little toys that you don't care about being broken/lost. I love the dollar tree for several reasons. First, I can always run by to pick up a card, gift wrap, or a gift bag for any occasion. They have an amazing variety of snacks and drinks for the beach. Pretty much any household item I need from laundry detergent and dish soap to candles, air fresheners. And there's always a huge selection of arts and crafts supplies for my grandchildren, (or me when I get bored). Best of all, they're super close by my house! read more

People... It's a freakin' dollar store. I don't know what you're expecting... Came here to stock some stuff for a camping trip. They have a surprisingly broad selection of things you wouldn't expect to find at a dollar store. I got utensils (kitchen knives, cutting board, tupperware, etc.) as well as some camp food (ramen noodles, canned vegetables and canned salmon) - I was willing to throw away a lot of the utensils at the end of the trip, but surprisingly they've all held up. I still use one of the knives and all of the tupperware. Great value, just bring your own bags because they charge extra for them. read more
