The line of people waiting to pick up their Dollar/Thrifty car rental on Thanksgiving.
Joseph L.

Dollar/Thrifty are maintaining their low rating here at O'Hare Rental Center. There were only 2 unapologetic agents for 20-plus customers. The wait time was approx. 1hour 20 minutes. We rented through Hotwire and paid up front, so we were stuck with Dollar. Five Stars for the customers in line who maintained civility & patience.

When Dollar is charging nearly a hundred bucks less than my preferred rental vendor, I'm going to choose Dollar. But that $100 comes with a cost. The cost is a longer wait for the shuttle bus to pick you up, an open lot of cars to choose from (I did get a decent low-mileage Chevy Impala) and then a much longer wait for the shuttle bus to take us back to the airport terminal. When it's only 35 degrees, it's just no fun waiting in their double-wide mobile home trailer. Yep, it's a trailer. The shuttle bus driver was friendly and the gal who checked me out of the lot was friendly and the gal who helped me return my car was also friendly. So it's the nice folks I dealt with and the nice car I got that saved Dollar a one-star review. Next time, I'll stick with my preferred even if it costs more. How much is time and comfort worth?

The actual line I am currently standing in to rent a car at Dollar.

Why didn't I check Yelp before I bought that package on Cheap Tickets? The line is out the door and wrapped around the parking lot. And has not moved in 15 minutes. Looks like I will be here at least an hour and a half. This is really not okay. Never. Again.

What a circus act... 3 people who don't know anything about using computers, customer service, or management. What a JOKE. 45 minute wait and 1 person gets helped every 10 minutes. If you value your tie, your sanity, your respect, stay the hell away from this crap shoot. Never again

This is the clerk pouting like a child on his cell phone after he refused to get the manager.

Give the deposit back in a timely manner and close out the contract as soon as the car is dropped off.

You will be standing in line 30+ minutes. There will be two people working but one will be standing around telling the other what to do.

Check in at the counter was OK, the woman manning it was covering 2 brands and was stressed out. Lulu from Budget advised if I get it empty bring it back empty. But that can't happen because I didn't use it much. This is the second issue I've had with Budget. They are the same company as AVIS . Same owners. So why ????

Very Disappointing Experience -- Beware of Hidden Restrictions and Fees…read moreMy husband and I have used Expedia extensively for many trips, so we were especially disappointed with our experience booking a rental through Expedia with Routes Car Rental. The rental initially appeared to be a good deal, but important restrictions and fees were not made clear before we booked. The "Rules and Regulations" link on Expedia was blank, so we had no way to review these terms in advance. After picking up the car, we received an email informing us that we had been charged a $104.49 border-crossing fee simply because our lodging was about five miles across the Illinois state line. This was a significant surprise and something we believe should have been clearly disclosed before the rental was booked. We also learned only after pickup that the rental had a 200-mile-per-day mileage limit, with an additional charge of $0.20 per mile over the limit. Based on our trip, exceeding that allowance could have added more than $400 to the rental cost. Getting to the Routes location was also inconvenient. We had to take a train and then a shuttle, adding roughly 40 minutes to the trip, and then waited more than an hour before reaching an agent. After receiving notice of the additional charges, we called Expedia directly to try to resolve the situation. Expedia attempted to contact Routes while we were on the phone, but was unable to reach anyone and left a message. We were told to expect to hear back within a few days. Neither Expedia nor Routes ever followed up with us. What has been most disappointing is that this experience has shaken our confidence in Expedia. We have used Expedia extensively over the years and have generally trusted the information presented when making our travel arrangements. In this case, important rental restrictions and potential charges were not clearly accessible before booking, and when we contacted Expedia about the problem, the issue was never followed up on. After this experience, we will think twice before relying on Expedia for future rental car bookings.

Needed a car to rent for twelve days for my wife and me during our 10 day upper Midwest road trip…read more Decided to spurge a bit to get a nicer car, and surprisingly found the Hertz at O'Hare to have the best price for an airport rental of a luxury mid-size SUV (Volvo XC60 or comparable) at $572.32. I booked directly with them and there was no mention of additional charges collected at time of rental, just that it had to be prepaid and was non-refundable. We had the last Delta flight from LAX to ORD so my wife, her mom, and I got into Chicago around midnight. The Airport Transit System (train) will take you to all the terminals and multi-modal facility where all the rental car agencies are. Terminal 5 is the last stop before it, and the train cars were pretty full by the time it came to us, even this late. We had to abandon our luggage cart, and hand-wheel our luggage, finding space. I've been a member of the Hertz Gold program for a while, back to my corporate days, and knew to skip the rental counter and go directly to the garage to see my name in lights. It didn't matter since, the main rental counters were all closed this late at night, so everyone had to go to the garage. Sure enough, my name was listed, but instead of showing where I could pick up my car, it said to see the counter attendant. There was only one person there, and there was a line. Once it was my turn, it turned out the car wasn't ready for us. I think they don't want to have the XC60 for others to choose, so they had to get it 'from the back'. It didn't take very long to do that, and everyone was perfectly civil about it. However, they hadn't checked me out, so when we got to the gate to leave, we had to do the checkout process with the attendant (she was not happy since someone before hadn't their job). We went through a car scanner which recorded the outside condition of the car. As for the trip, I was really happy with the car. It had some of the most comfortable car seats I've ever used (fully adjustable for both upfront seats, with lumbar support) and the back seats were heated. The power moon roof was so large, though we couldn't use it much open since it was hot and sunny during our trip. It also surprisingly didn't have wireless Apple Play, so had to find a USB-C cable, and then it worked fine with Navigation and Spotify. It was a really good trip, and the SUV had a lot to do with that. Bringing the car back, once you got close to O'Hare, it was important to follow the signs for rental car return, vs following the directions on Google Maps. We passed through a similar car scanner when we entered the lot. We didn't have to wait for anyone to check us out, just leaving the keys on the dash. For once, we didn't forget anything in the car. We got an itemized bill by email in a couple of hours. We took the train back to Terminal 5. A couple of days later, we got another email saying that the car had been returned with no damage. However, they also charged the additional money as well, so I opened up an incident to explain the charge. We'll see where that goes. Stats: 10 states visited (IL, WI, IA, MO, KY, TN, AR, MS, OH, IN), missing two of the Mississippi River States (MN, LA). 7 gas stations visited on trip, $294.20 spent, 72 gallons used, 2,133 miles driven.

Big Caucasian guy, about 250lbs, really short hair, tattoos all over both of his arms, totally visible flakes on his hair. No "hi," no "hello, I'll be with you in a minute," no "sorry for the wait," no nothing. If the guy was having a bad day, well, don't take it out on the customers. The rude dude clearly didn't want to be there, and wasn't willing to listen to anything the customers had to say/ask. It's sad to know that people from outside of Chicago arrives at O'Hare and this guy is one of the first people that they have interact with, because these people will think "wow, Chicagoans suck!"

First of all, at the day of pick up, no one even worked at the Sixt office in the parking garage where the other rental car company all have someone working in the small office, we had waited for 10 mins, call the customer service, still no one came to assist us. Secondly, when we got the car, my husband saw some scratches and dent on the car, he took a video, but when we return the car, the lady who inspected our card found 3 spots that has dent, she circled those and told us the charges are $49.18, we were like we have a video, the car has those dent when we picked it up, she said she doesn't care but her system doesn't have those dent, she suggested us to talk to the customer service and forced us to sign the bill, we had to leave to catch our flight, so we signed the invoice and didn't argue too much thought we could send an email to deal with the customer service, which unfortunately we did but no reply and the final invoice was still showing those charges. will not rent from Sixt again, that's for sure, we have been using so many different rental car company, most of them are ok to good, sixt is the worst, they lost a customer who rents cars all the time because of business.....
