It has frequently been the source of a good chuckle for my husband and myself, as Willamina is not exactly what you'd call a tourist town. It is comprised of a single hotel, three restaurants, and as far a shopping goes? Well, up until recently I would have told you a thrift store and small-town stand-by Dollar General were your only options. Alas, I would have been wrong as this itty bitty town affords a most charming shopping experience in the form of Willamina Merchants! They tout half locally made goods and crafts, half vintage treasures, plus annuals, perennials, and houseplants as seasonally available. Oh, lots of wine and cider, too! This is truly the sort of store that you never know what you'll find, thus I end up here at least once a month if not more. A couple of my favorite finds? A hand-thrown mushroom mug, planters with small crystal wands attached, charcoal tooth powder, Albatross razors and blades, framed vintage embroidery, Missionary chocolates, a chicken oil painting, Jacobsen salts, 1950's party dresses, and stained-glass ornaments. Parking is only available on the street, but as this is Willamina, that will pose no trouble unless it is Independence Day (y'all, they don't mess around when it comes to the Fourth 'round these parts!). Employees (who are actually makers that take turns running the store - so cool!) are always helpful and friendly, and prices are excellent. The shop is run by several lovely people dedicated to giving back, as demonstrated by the pile of free items on the side of the store. Not only did I buy the sofa, but I left with a huge bag of items I couldn't pass up. Great prices & people. Willamina is an adorable town with shops and restaurants. This used to be an IGA market but in recent years has switched to the Sheridan Select Market. It has most of your every day needs and on this day it was vanilla, sweetened condensed milk, flour and butter. Well, what can I say we didn't read the recipe until that morning. Small town grocery with tiny aisles and a little of everything in there on this day was fairly brisk business going on. We walked up from the house, brought our own shopping bag (they weren't really impressed by that) it made me giggle to myself as I bagged by own groceries and the clerk just looked quizzical at me as if she had never seen a reusable bag before. All in all a handy stop. I'm sure all be back again.
