I saw fans, heaters, books, rugs, foods and beverages, dish detergents, air fryers, pet toys, clothing, hair shampoos and conditioners, home decor, mattresses, vacuums, office supplies, and many other types of products. I had expected lower prices. I thought that the prices were average and not steeply discounted. Nonetheless, I chose a package of three name-brand scissors for $6, and my husband chose a package of candies for about $4. At the checkout, the cashier greeted us, accurately rang up our purchase, thanked us, and told us to have a good day.

There is a huge parking lot (paid) behind the entire building and there are metered spaces in the front. They often host events like outdoor fitness classes, farmers markets and car shows. It really is amazing that you could mini golf, get a facial, drink wine or beer, eat delicious food, shop for books or grab a coffee all within a small area. There are several cut through areas which make it more manageable to get to your desired location from the parking lot. The biggest downside to me is that I wish there were more local businesses. While there is nothing wrong with chains, the Strip is such an important part of Pittsburgh's history that I wish it contained more independent businesses and restaurants and less chains.

When we dropped items off on 6 or 7 occasions, the workers were helpful and friendly. The off-street parking was convenient although sometimes busy. Drop-off hours are somewhat limited (at this writing, 9-noon Mon, Tue, Thurs, and Fri), but we liked the place and arranged our schedule accordingly. We also had some larger items to donate, and checked the Second Harvest website before assembling donations in the garage. It was easy to go online and book a Second Harvest vehicle to come to the address. This service did cost money, but it was far less expensive than any other non-profit we tried. Online payment has an option to reschedule or cancel. The two men who visited the house were friendly, efficient, and strong. They accepted most of our items, and explained why they could not take certain things (all non-profits have similar rules, so this was understandable). Our goals were to help our neighbors, and keep useful and beautiful things out of landfills. I felt very comfortable donating to Second Harvest---everything from cutlery and clothing to a nice desk. I have faith that these items will go on to people who want and need them.
