This Dollar General is one of the worst ones in Virginia. I went in today and outside there are…read moretotes of marked down blankets, clothes, pillows, shoes etc. It rained yesterday evening in our area, not today but these items were all soaked and the water was visible in the totes!! I cant believe they would give these away let alone sell them!? I went in to look for a few items and I was going to mention the totes to them just in case they somehow overlooked it when putting them out there this morning. After being in the store for about 5 minutes and not seeing a single employee, I decided to buy my soda and just mention it to the cashier. When I reached the cash register there was actually a cashier there ringing up a young girl. She wasnt friendly, not even cordial in my opinion. When it was my turn she didnt say a word to me until I asked for ciggaretts and she asked for an ID. I got it out and tried to hand it to her but she wasnt even looking at me, when she did look at me she asked what kind (again) and asked for an ID that I already had out. When I handed her the money she gave me my change, still not speaking to me or giving me a receipt. I asked for my receipt after she gave me a look like I was bothering her and she took the register tape and tore off the other receipts and my survey paper and my $5 coupon and still didnt say anything. This is a very messy store, selling waterlogged blankets and treating customers like we are a burden to them. What a great place to start a store!!! I will NEVER shop here again!

The store is cluttered and extremely difficult to maneuver. I expect, as I do, many that shop here…read moredo so solely because of the location and lack of nearby options. When it's convenient, I actually travel another 8 miles or so down the road, to the next Dollar General to shop. You can never rely on anything to be in stock or when (or if) it even will be. And check your products carefully before purchasing! I've picked up damaged products that couldn't be used and expired medications. The last medication I picked up (a couple of weeks ago) expired in 2018!

The photo shows one of my new plastic large weave baskets (14" L x 11.5" W x 5.9" H) which were $5.50 each. Functional, washable, and of okay quality. They had three sizes for this particular product, as well as other choices (including higher-priced and attractive wicker). I also picked up a package of 8 Clover flour tortillas for under $2. (Be careful of expiration dates. Mine expire in a few days). *Store selection and layout. (Rating: 3/5). While some areas of the store were orderly, many of the aisles could be described as disheveled. Quite a few Items that we looked at were in locations that didn't match where the price UPC was. We also had to ask a clerk for a price check on an item that didn't have a price tag nor was it in the correct location. At the time of our visit, the store was having refrigeration issues, so some items were not available. *Convenience. (4). We live in a rural area, and need to drive roughly 45 minutes to any box stores, so having this and a few other Dollar Stores is a convenience for us for everyday items. [There are a few grocery stores closer in]. *Value. (2). Prices for non-food items were comparable to Walmarts or Target but of lower quality and, as mentioned, these retail choices are a further drive for us. Prices for food items were comparable or higher than the local Food Lion, which has a better selection. *Staff. (2). Limited interaction with staff. Two women were working at the check-out but they continued their conversation with each other during my check-out rather than engaging with me. One had earlier done a price check at the counter for me upon request. *Store location. (5). The store is in a strip mall on Louisa's Main Street. There is plentiful free parking.

Another visit to our local Food Lion…read more Pre-Independence Day, the store is running some great specials on holiday essentials -- large seedless watermelons for $2.49, corn on the cob (4 for $1), and Turkey Hill ice cream (2 for $6). All were in stock and looking good. We were less successful in finding some items from our shopping list. I needed some specific produce items for recipes that weren't on the shelves -- eggplants, mung bean sprouts, scallions -- though they often carry them. While the latter two items were not in stock, we got exceptional service from a young man who was stocking items in the produce section. He ran back-and-forth to the back, with a smile on his face, to see if any of these items were there, waiting to be put out on the shelves. He found eggplants for us, and also an estimate for when the other items would be coming in. We love that this Food Lion is now selling fresh organic herbs -- basil, cilantro, mint, rosemary, and more -- that are still in small pots with dirt. We purchased a mint one for $3.49, which provides a larger quantity of fresh product than the small amount in the plastic containers. We also wanted to buy a basil one but many of the basil leaves were shriveled and dry so we opted for one of the small plastic containers. I also needed some specialty items -- and was unsuccessful in finding coriander seeds, star anise, and rice vermicelli noodles. The latter seemed to be sold there but were out-of-stock. Sigh, I've just had to order these three items online from a large retailer. A final note. We had a pleasant check-out experience. The line was short, the cashier was VERY friendly and efficient, and our bill was correct.

Party was in two hours and the team jumped into action. Not only did they make the entire order in one hour but the manager personally delivered everything to our home in time for the party!! The prices seem somewhat higher than and the selection lesser than the bigger grocery stores in Louisa and on Kentucky Springs Road but, that said, we appreciate not having to drive miles further to pick up some essentials when we're already in downtown Mineral. We were impressed by the availability of some non-traditional items (pig ears anyone?), but disappointed by the quality of some of the fresh vegetables. For instance, we would've bought some cucumbers, but the stock on hand was shriveled. We noted a steady stream of customers, mostly coming in for only a few items. Parking was free and plentiful. The check-out cashier was efficient and neither friendly nor unfriendly.

This Food Lion is one of the better ones I've ever experienced. (Much better than Charlottesville or Chesapeake.) Produce is fresh, good organic options, clean, well stocked, and so far the people have been great. Relieved to know I don't have to make an hour drive to get basics.
