We pulled off I-29 with a wink and a prayer, hoping we could find a grocery store... as luck would have it, we found our way here. This smallish grocery store (by our spoiled SoCal standards) reminded me of grocery stores when I was a little kid: no big fancy displays, no gimmicks, no 10¢ a grocery bag... just a clean well-stocked grocery with nice folks running the joint. There is a low glass case at the meat department and--get this-- butchers working back there! Fresh produce and cold drinks, soft bread, and enough sugary junk for the kids... a couple of bags of ice and we were back on our way: mom making sandwiches on the truck center console, and kids rattling chips bags in the back seat. Can't imagine when we'll find our ways back here, but glad my brain has files away a memory here of a nice little grocery store. Is this heaven? ... it's Fareway.

Interesting donuts (such as a cocoa Krispy-covered chocolate donut) and waffles. HV also had a bowl of fruit. The donuts were not fresh, but still tasted ok. The eggs were good, so were the biscuits and gravy, French toast sticks, bacon and sausage. A large drink was included. For $9 a person, it's really not a bad spread for the money and has quite a bit of variety. A starving college student would probably like it.

We stopped in for a family reunion and I forgot I was asked to bring an appetizer. So to the grocery store I went! Walking in, I wasn't quite sure what I was going to find. But I was very impressed with the selection and honestly the prices weren't that more expensive then smaller grocery stores in bigger cities. Anything more expensive is basically paying for the convenience of shopping last minute (as well as supporting a local family business) and I think that's totally worth it! Two things that really blew me away were; 1) The beer selection. Dozens of craft beers at reasonable prices. He even carded me when I got some adult beverages. (I turn 30 in 10 days, but who's counting?!) 2) The service. The owner greeted us as we walked in, offered to help us find anything a few minutes later and finally was more than willing to help load the car once we checked out. I know this grocery store is under new ownership-- I think he's really doing a fabulous job stocking the shelves with lots of options and is beyond professional and courteous to his customers. I'll definitely be stopping in next time I'm in Remsen!

Especially if you live in the Yankton area, there's no target, unless you want to drive an hour to Sioux City or Sioux Falls. This Walmart is like any other, it's fine, 9 out of 10 visits you will leave slightly irritated. One time I went to get to get a dozen or two donuts for something and they didn't have any because the donut maker didn't show up, and I guess nobody else knew how to make them? I'm not sure. Ive used their order online and then pick up at the store option here before, once I realized the pickup station was all the way in the back of the store it went fine. Some employees are kind, some obviously hate their job. It's usually clean and stocked pretty well. I usually leave with a ton of stuff I don't need, and forget the thing I came for. So I go back and do it all again. Basically, it's Walmart and you can't have extremely high expectations.

They really had almost everything we needed, the clothing was a bit sparse, but food and drink wise this walmart was set up like the walmart in omaha. The staff was friendly and efficient, we did self check out and were in and out really quick. It's only about 10 miles from the lake resorts and camp grounds.
