Next to the register was a small package wrapped in red & white string, labeled "Bonnie's Uncommon Fruitcake." I've been a sucker for trying fruitcakes ever since I had my first slice of Freihofer's Fruitcake over seventy years ago. Here was a locally baked fruitcake with no difficult to pronounce or preservative ingredients. That definitely made it "Uncommon." Pecans, dates, candied fruit (cherries, pineapple), eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. That's it! I thought it tasted delicious. It was not overly sweet, had a good amount of nuts and candied fruit, and there was minimal cake (flour) holding it all together perfectly. I don't know where else you might be able to find this delicious fruitcake, but not to worry. Bonnie Nicolosi provided the following information on the fruitcake for you to contact her. Bonnie@NicolosiGroup.com (518) 588-0304 Hopefully, she distributes her treats to a place near you or can accommodate you in another fashion. Check out my photos for a mouthwatering encouragement!

I am not interested since I am already committed to bagging my own groceries at Aldi. It appears other customers agree with me since the line I was in was four deep yet two self service lanes were not being utilized. Aldi works the few employees they have in store hard. I heard that they are paid well and gave good benefits which is great. However, the store is often unkempt; for example, the shelves are disorganized especially the beverage displays and the meat and produce sections. The prices are good, but the the service is lacking. I much prefer going to Trader Joe's where I am treated well. I love its checkout process and the layout. I also like interacting with the many employees present in the store who are eager to help the customer. I also like the numerous specialty products, the prepared foods available, and the cheese selection.

For example, although I understand there are no bags available at the self checkout lines, it's very strange to me that there are no reusable bags available for purchase either. Also, it appears they took away all the shopping baskets, forcing customers to use carts, probably to push people into spending more money...but absolutely at the expense of the convenience they claim to provide. Then there's the layout of the store, which is extreme crammed. The produce section is especially jammed, providing limited avenues for customers to actually get through it, then the entire back of the store is filled with displays, making it incredibly challenging to navigate even on a day when it isn't busy. Overall, avoid, just go to Hannford.

Much of the time the store is very crowded, there can be a long wait at checkout, and it is a pain to get to from the Albany/Colonie Center area. Still, the prices warrant the gas and even the toll for the Thruway. My suggestion for their developers would be to build another store in the area around Colonie Center/Northway Mall area, perhaps in the old Barnes and Nobles building.
