This is one of my comfort food places! I know it's a franchise but, I love it because the atmosphere just brings me back to Osaka. I mean, their mascot greets you at the door and the servers all say something like... "Pon Poko Pon"! Hahaha! Love it! Apart from the long wait in line during peak hours, you relly get what you pay for: great food and excellent customer service. The servers were very knowledgeable and make great recommendations (I make sure to try something new every visit). You have the option of cooking the Okonomiyaki yourself (part of the experience) or the servers can do it for you! Personally, ask the servers to cook it for you. I can never get the flip right and they always know right time to flip to get the crispy edges. All the dishes can feed at least 2 very hungry people. So, best to go with at least 3 other friends to be able to try a little bit of everything. If it is your first time, you must order an Okonomiyaki with rice cake and try their Quattro Formaggi Pizza. My favorite includes the Onigiri Cheese Yaki and the Okonomiyaki with Pork Belly. If you are brave, try the Monjayaki. Monjayaki Monjayaki has more liquid added to the batter mixture, making it runnier than Okonomiyaki. So, it remains gooey on the hot plate! For me, go and try it! No Okonomiyaki experience is complete without drinking. I highly recommend you order the Chu High! I always get the Green Apple! :)

Hiroshimayaki! Okonimiyaki with yakisoba inside! Woah!

The closest thing you can get to well, Dotonbori, outside of Osaka! But you wouldn't know this just by seeing the sign. Nothing about it communicated the experience that was waiting to be savored. If not for a friend who had invited to try the place out, I wouldn't have paid it any attention. So yes, while it may look like your typical Japanese restaurant (you know, with the realistic food display outside) with a generic Japanese restaurant name, you should never judge a book by its cover anyway. Case in point: there was a liiiiine when we finally visited. We were 12th and waited for an hour. Expectations were really high at this point. Finally, we got our table and was greeted by a flat grill. Yayyy, just like in Osaka - you (or if you're too lazy, the attendant) cooks everything right in front of you! In our case, okonomiyaki, salmon cha-cha (which turned out to be my favorite) and hiroshimayaki (okonomiyaki but with yaki soba as filling - whaaaaaat!). All of them turned out to be really yummy! The place's interiors made the experience feel authentic, in fairness. The attendants, very knowledgable too! Thank God our friend invited us because this is now one of my favorite discoveries. All in all, if you are a Japanphile or just really craving for one of the best okonomiyakis in Manila, better start lining up now!

The Good: The Authentic Japanese Experience! Authentic tasting food and authentic feeling ambiance!! The Bad: Abit pricey for what it is. Also, really long lines during peak hours! The Pro-tip: Come at an off-peak hour to avoid the long lines! Being a huge fan of Japanese cuisine and culture, Dohtonbori was a place that I definitely had to try! As a franchise from Japan, this place does not disappoint! The ambiance makes you feel like you're really in Japan! Plus, the food tastes exactly how I remember it from Tokyo! We tried the Okonomiyaki was superb! And the Monjayaki (while it may look strange) is actually very tasty! The drinks were spot on, too! The Chu High was sweet and very strong! I can understand why this place commands long lines during peak hours. The attention is definitely well deserved. That being said, I wish the price per head was slightly lower. We'd be eating here more often if it were slightly more affordable! Will we be coming back: If not here, then in Japan!

Note: This is a 4.5 star review My sister and I have always wanted to try a cook your own okonamiyaki place. Call it a hangover from watching too much Japanese dramas. We hadn't been able to make our way back to Japan since then so this is probably the closest we're ever going to get for now. I liked the look and feel of the place. It was typical Japanese restaurant (plastic food displayed in a window outside, those cloth things with characters printed on them hanging outside the door and a lifesize figure of their mascot (a tanuki or a racoon?) holding a container of what I'm guessing is sake by the door) so it feels pretty legit. The mascot is also there to greet you at the front of the building and his paw prints lead up the stairs and all the way to the restaurant. Nice touch. I wasn't able to look close enough, but there seemed to be a shelf of Japanese masks near the counter for kids to look at or play with. The service is great. The staff is very attentive and also patient enough to explain how the different dishes (and more importantly how to cook them) work. They bring out your orders pretty fast, too. To make the most of your experience here, don't take the easy way out and let the staff cook your food for you. Just follow the cooking instruction cards and have fun using that big teppan in the middle of your table. It's not that hard. You will smell like stir fry when you leave, though. Since it was our first time, we decided to try the deluxe okonomiyaki. (We'll try the ones with cheese in them next time) Lucky for us, we didn't screw up, even if you have to flip the thing like 4 times for it to cook properly. And the finished product tasted really good. The batter was so soft and tasty. Don't scrimp on the okonamiyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, nori and bonito flakes. They're at your table for a reason. I just wish the serving size was a bit more substantial and big enough to share. We also tried the 3 meat yakisoba. This wasn't as great as our okonomiyaki (thus the imperfect rating), but it was fun to cook, as it had more components, including a teapot of dashi, which made everything steam. Overall though, we had a great time and we'll definitely be coming back.

It's the experience that adds those memorable details; and a full-5 stars. I was helped by Ace-san. He helped navigate my late afternoon/off-hour visit. Ended up going with the Seoul style. Something about that mix that invigorates the taste buds. Add the mayo, and some powder, and it takes it up a notch. What can I say... It gave me a flashback to the awesome times in Nippon years back with friends. I'd definitely head back here. Good eats, good people. Arigato

Availed the "eat all you can" for Php699 per head. There are 3 Okonomiyaki options: Pork, 3 Meat, and Four Cheese. Promo also includes unlimited beef, pork, and chicken Yakiniku. The duration is limited to 2hours. Time starts as soon as they start cooking. The allotted time is actually enough to get us filled. Service is prompt and the quality of food is just as good.

Dohtonbori: A Japanese Soul Food DOHTON BORI reminds me of Dōtonbori in Osaka, Japan. I've been there twice and the place looks pretty amazing with lots of people, busy streets, popular nightlife and entertainment area and of course Authentic Japanese restaurants in the area. Anyway, this place serves a wide variety of Okonomiyaki (Of course because that's their specialty) and side dishes at good prices. Okonomiyaki is also called "Japanese Pancake" or "Japanese Pizza". The name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning "what you like" and yaki "grilled". Okonomiyaki is one of the most popular staple foods for the Japanese. You can cook it all by yourself if you want to experience it, but make sure to be very careful because the griddle is very hot. The personnel can also cook for you. After cooking the Okonomiyaki you can top it with okonomiyaki sauce, katsuobushi (bonito flakes), ao nori (seaweed flakes) and Japanese mayonnaise then after that can now enjoy your Okonomiyaki masterpiece J Aside from Okonomiyaki's they also offer Hiroshima Yaki & Modern Yaki's (Osaka-style Okonomiyaki cooked with noodles and wrapped with egg), Teppan Pizza, Monjayaki, Yakisoba, Yakiniku, Touban Yaki, Salads, Rice dishes, Noodles, Set Menu, and Desserts. They also have a Kid's Menu for the little ones. They also sell Japanese toys here. There's a small corner there where you can really feel that you're in Japan. (Aghhh! I miss) you'll have to remove your shoes then place it in the small cabinet before entering then you'll sit at the floor. (With hole under the table) We ordered the Four Cheese Okonomiyaki because Ken and I LOVES cheese! :p~ It has mozzarella cheese | Cheddar cheese | Parmesan cheese | Mixed cheese | Tomato | Tempura bits | Red pickled ginger | Spring onion | Egg | Cabbage | Okonomiyaki paste. This is actually good for 2 persons and it was good, generous serving! (I also have a step-by-step photos down there - Mix everything from the bowl then pour it in the griddle, approximately 3 mins per side then flip it, if the Okonomiyaki is cooked already you can brush it with the okonomiyaki sauce then top it with ao nori, bonito flakes and drizzled it with Japanese mayonnaise). Next is the Dohtonbori Pizza, it has Pork | Mixed cheese | Egg | Cabbage | Okonomiyaki sauce. We want something green so we ordered this instead of salad hahaha. Just like making a pizza you'll first have to make the "dough" then top it with your desired toppings then cover it and wait for about 6-10 mins. Ken loves Katsudon so he wants to try it if it's good. Big serving, flavorful and filling. The only thing that he doesn't like is that the pork is kinda tough but still manageable. Overall experience was great and worth it. Long queue outside but we're so lucky so we didn't wait long in the line (15 mins). Good thing we're just two. It was still under pre-open or soft open timing. The foods they offer same quality of their chain restaurants in Japan. Staffs were very well trained, both of cooking and Japanese language. There were no clear price list yet due to such preparation period, therefore no comment on cost value view point.

The food is good the experience is bad. The crew are clueless in as far as customer service is concerned. Won't go back.

It's 8 pieces and after 6 I'm already full. Tempura was nothing special. Came with 4 pieces of shrimp tempura and one piece of okra tempura and miso soup. The food isn't amazing but it's not bad! Definitely satisfies my futo maki craving. I think it's a great place for big groups. It's not the cheapest Japanese restaurant maybe it's better even just go to a buffet like Sambokujin. But it's location is easy to get to and I'm satisfied after the meal. I'll be back and hopefully I part ways with my futo maki and get a different dish. :)

Castor, it's across the 24-hour Family Mart and is near Afters Espresso and Dessert. Parking is a little bit difficult. It seems like they don't have the same valet service as the Makati branches. Compared to the other branches, this new one is definitely more brightly lit and spacious. They still have the bar seating and booth seating on the first floor. Then there are more booths on the second floor, along with some private rooms for groups. If you're having a hard time choosing your order, the bento boxes offer great value for money and allow you to try a handful of dishes. I'm always a fan of their shrimp tempura, fish tempura, their soba and the spicy tuna maki. I did notice, however, that the spicy tuna maki in this branch seems to be smaller in size than the Makati branches. In any case, it's still really good stuff. This branch also offers the grilled items that you can grill at your table. I personally like the US Karubi and US Rosu. The restaurant was quite busy on a Saturday night so make reservations or prepare to wait in line. It's worth it though!

Their restroom had an amusing sink knob located at the extreme lower right, away from the sink. California Roll This is an easy default for any Japanese roll to try. Theirs was good, refreshing in the mouth, simple, and tasty! Salmon Sashimi This tasted slightly different from what we usually eat at other Japanese restaurants but it was as good as always. With just the right amount of soy sauce and wasabi, I was all set. Takoyaki This was nearly a tie-breaker for first place in my book. It was SUPER GOOD! Texture and filling were just amazing! Tori Teri Kamameshi It's basically teriyaki chicken on kettle rice. This restaurant taught me that there is actually a name for the burnt rice at the bottom, and it's called "Okoge." I've had lots of good burnt rice experiences elsewhere (not only Japanese) but I'm not sure if the reference would still be the same since they weren't kamameshi. Tori Teri was pretty good with tender chicken and flavorful sauce. It can get addicting! Yakitori Everything essentially came smothered with teriyaki sauce. We tried the Baby Octopus, which was slightly chewy and very similar to eating squid. Quail Eggs were, well, eggs! I can't say much about it. Eggs! Chicken Liver was my favorite for the texture and flavor. I'll always try Chicken Liver if the restaurant has yakitori. Service Overall experience was good since we arrived. The chef hails from Japan and he has brought with him the simple and authentic flavor of our usual favorites like the different kinds of sushis and makis.
