MMM, the "Naked" - with mustard and ketchup!
    Carrie Neal W.

So I love Coke in a glass bottle too - but not as much as I love lunching with David K.!! We did the Woodruff Arts Center Street Food thingy today and I had a great hotdog!! It's my new guilty food, I guess, but it was delicious- I got the "Naked" - just a dog with the option to add mustard and ketchup (I went with both) - as I like to start with a baseline before I get all fancy. Delicious! Grilled and juicy and perfectly bun-sized. And Honey is such a sweetheart, just like our local Atlanta celebrity described. It's fun to patronize places where you like the folk(s). David went with a different cart so he'll have to report back on that. But I can definitely say that a good hot dog and a bag of chips for $4 is a steal!!

a menu of hotdogs and fries

I contacted Kiki at Dogs on Wheels. She called me a couple days later. She explained that the $7.99 package only has 1 hot dog, so the $11.99 package has 2 hot dogs. The wording on the menu (attached) is extremely confusing in that case, so she said that she'd update it to make it more clear. She said that we did have additional sides provided, but they must have been hidden, since the majority of our employees weren't offered these sides. On the $300 up-charge, we did not end up paying that much; they just attempted to charge us too much initially for the extra hot dogs, but we ended up paying $11.99 x 10 instead. I updated the review from 1/5 to 2/5, but especially since they were late, I would not use them again.

I'm always a fan of industrious people. These two guys are just back here pumping out some good old fashioned hot dogs. Outside of bars at 3 am it can be tricky to find food. It's delightful when you stumble upon a hot dog stand SHAPED LIKE A HOT DOG, and order a Chilli cheese dog at 3 am. Also, it was only $4.99, which is super cheap considering no one has any other options of what to eat. Keep hustling and thanks for feeding the masses.

Left: Honey's special caramelized onion sauce. Right: Ketchup, mustard, & raw onions.

I've watched their sign go up and down almost every day (except on Monday & Tuesday when they're closed) for the past few months and I finally walked down last week to check them out. I was craving a cupcake and a hotdog, so lucky for me one of the two was within stumbling distance. They have a cute set-up and everything is retro themed. I met Honey, the owner, and she was really cool and told me about why she started her business. I ordered the $4.99 lunch special, which is two hot dogs, chips, and a drink. I added onions to both, so it came to $6.50, which is still pretty cheap for lunch. She grills the hot dogs as they're ordered and glass bottle Coca-Cola is served as part of the throwback motif (I LOVE Coke in a cold glass bottle). My only complaint was that they weren't very thick, but Honey explained that she uses a particular brand that is popular in New York. In the end I was convinced that I actually didn't want a meatier dog and that these were better. Also, she makes a special caramelized onion sauce that's really good. Shout out to the Atlanta Street Food Coalition! Dogs on Wheels is a member, so you know they prepare and serve food with very high standards. Oh, and they even have special dog treats. You can get four of them plus a bowl of water for your pet while you sit and enjoy your food.

Le Haute Dog (tofu) and Chili Dog (beef). So flavorful!

I'm not sure what I was expecting but it really blew my mind just how good that burger was. I think it was chargrilled. I ordered inside but they have a drive thru as well. The cashier answered all my questions and corrected my order when I got it wrong trying to understand what a "tray" was. Very fast service and well drinks. A TON of shake options. There are tables to sit at inside. The only fast food I eat is Wendy's, Chic-fil-A, and Zaxby's. Most others make me sick. Feels good I can add Cook Out to the list when I want a quick and easy cheap eat. My meal was $9 with a drink. I tried some cherry drink they had which wasn't bad either. I'll be going back for sure. And a major plus they close at 4am!

We parked next door at the gas station and walked to the park. There was no parking fee or entrance fee. We made it there about 9 and there were about 5 vendors and many tables to sit and enjoy your food. There was also music playing. Slutty vegan seemed to be the only vendor with a line. When I'm talking line, I'm talking L-I-N-E!!!! As we were waiting, we ended up getting a spiked lemonade from one of the vendors and it wasn't spiked much. Atlanta is better off for having food trucks (and this park, specifically). Despite the cloudy, on-and-off drizzly weather, the park had a good turnout of patrons between 7-9pm on a Thursday night. Thanks to those who braved the elements for our UYE (http://www.yelp.com/events/atlanta-atlanta-food-truck-park-uye). The food truck/food stand lineup was pretty good: Sweet Auburn BBQ Corn-a-Cue One Love Jerk Grill Metro City Dogs Lemonade Stand WOW! Food Truck Ibiza Bites Chay J's New Orleans Candies Rouxd Food Truck King of Pops Yum Yum Cupcake Verizon also had a stand. I've been following the park's official calendar (http://www.atlantafoodtruckpark.com/calendar/) over the past month and noticed Thursday nights are the ideal weeknight (excluding Fridays) to go for the most trucks and the best selection. I suspect there might have been more trucks last night if it wasn't for the weather. I ended up trying a little bit of everything: Arepas (Venezuelan sliders) from WOW! Food Truck Beef brisket with Asian pear slaw taco from Sweet Auburn BBQ Goat cheese-stuffed fried green tomatoes from Ibiza Bites Creole pretzels and Creole popcorn from Chay J's I'll be posting reviews for each of those trucks in the next few days. If you come for dinner, I recommend coming on the early side as the food trucks only have a limited supply of items and do sell out. This leads some trucks to close early. I saw many menus with marked off items that had sold out for the day. Yum Yum Cupcakes shut down early because they sold out of their cupcakes for the day. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much seating the park had. I counted 16 large picnic tables in the main "dining" area, most with umbrellas. Each picnic table can seat up to about 8 people each. The picnic tables are located on a flat, paved surface. The food trucks are located in a large gravel lot. This lot has 4 communal standing tables and 2 additional picnic tables. So overall, this spot has quite a bit of seating, which is convenient. Also, plenty of trash cans and recycling bins to keep the grounds looking relatively clean. The park is family and dog-friendly. It can be a little loud because you're around all these big trucks and next to busy Howell Mill Rd. You can BYOB, so save money by bringing your own drinks. If you want water, I saw some trucks selling it for $1 per bottle. There is one restroom and it's a "Johnny on the Spot" porta-potty in the parking lot with portable sink outside so you can wash your hands. There is ample free parking behind the park. Turn onto Emery St, next to the Shell Station on Howell Mill, to find it. If you need more detailed directions, check out the park's FAQ here: http://www.atlantafoodtruckpark.com/faqs/. The parking lot is old and filled with pot holes, so drive carefully. I saw someone puncture their car's tire by running over a broken-off metal sign post on the ground (she was trying to make too tight of a turn around the dining area). Note that every Wednesday and Friday night throughout the summer, the park will be playing movies for free. Also, from time to time, there is live music. On the weekends, there's a food market with rotating vendors and an artists market coming soon. Overall, I'm very happy with the Atlanta Food Truck Park and definitely plan on returning.

So I think every 2nd and 4th (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Saturday of the month, food trucks and food stands gather outside of Sweet Auburn Curb Market by the parking lot, to serve a large crowd of hungry Atlantans. When I was there, I remember seeing the Yumbii truck (korean bbq/mexican fusion), Good Food truck (fusion of different cuisines served in waffle cones), and a barbeque truck. Food stands served a variety of foods including cake pops, flavored boiled peanuts, tamales, chinese potstickers/buns, bottled drinks, and king of pops. There's definitely potential for more businesses to partake in the event. As food truck/street food culture becomes more popular, I'm sure the number of vendors at the Saturday Urban Picnic will increase, probably to the point that it would outgrow the location of where it's at right now. I also felt as though the quality of the food could be better. The ideas are clever, but the food doesn't compare to food from LA's food truck's.
