Let me start by saying that I NEVER leave reviews, but I feel I have not choice but to share so that others avoid this issue. We booked our golden doodle for a groom. I gave very specific instructions including a picture of what he should look like. He has a beautiful shiny coat, and we have had him groomed quite frequently over the past 3 years. When I went to pick him up with my mom I knew we were in trouble when my mom let out an audible gasp when she saw him. He literally looked like he had been electrocuted, or like a caricature of what a mutt in an alley would look like. His tail was chopped so short it looked like a rope toy, and there were tufts of uneven fur everywhere. The groomer asked if there was anything she wanted us to "clean up" but there was zero chance she was ever touching my dog again. I left and took him home at which point my wife was near tears upon seeing him. I called and asked for a manager, and got a call back FROM THE SAME GROOMER. So that was awkward! I explained I needed a manager, and eventually the owner called me back. He was very apologetic and said this had never happened before. He said that he could have another groomer try and "fix it", but only at their Calverton location, which is 45 minutes from my house. He refused to offer any help at the location in Southold. I took him to Calverton today. The groomer there was very professional, but immediately told me that she was not a "miracle worker" and there was only so much she could do to fix this "hatchet job". She also said she had to fix 3-4 dogs from this other groomer just this week! She did a professional job, and did the best she could, but in order to do that, she had to go really short to even out the places where he had basically been shaved down. My dogs hair is now 3x shorter than it ever has been before, to the point where I don't even recognize him. I called the owner back, and explained that I should not have had to pay for this service, as the other groomer admitted it was not a professional job, and that she had cleaned up multiple other dogs done by this first groomer. Additionally, I had to devote three hours of my day to getting this fixed. The owner said the best he could do was a 25% discount off of a future grooming, which I find laughable given this experience. I WOULD RECOMMEND EVERYONE AVOID THIS PLACE FOR GROOMING AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

We moved to the a North Fork full time in August 2019. I was a little nervous because our Shamrock was so used to his previous daycare and we hoped to find someplace he liked. We found Dogtown and was very comfortable from the first day we brought Shamrock for daycare. We also boarded him overnight when I had surgery. We bring him at least twice a week and Shamrock loves going, has a wonderful time and comes home happy. We also started using Heather for Grooming. Love his haircuts! Avoid this place. I called and was quoted $250. I questioned the staff member that the price was correct. When dropping off my dogs I confirmed with two staff members at the desk that the price was $250. Upon picked up my dog they charged me $400. When I questioned the extreme discrepancy I was told that I should know the price. I asked to speak to the owner who was present but he refused to come out. They finally agreed to a discount but rather than refund money they additionally charged me another $84.I had to call the Police to get involved and they showed the police a fake receipt of a refund. The bank spoke to the police and after an hour the additional charge and refund were issued after police intervention. Also the amount refunded does not match the discrepancy. Oh, I was told not to bring my dogs back since I questioned the bill. This place only wants customers who they can overcharge and are happy to be ripped off!!! Stay away!!!! read more

Dog Town is wonderful! Due to my husband's unexpected hospitalization, I needed my dogs to go to a kennel for 2 nights-- & both were kennel "virgins". Based on a recommendation from a friend of a friend, I opted for Dog Town & I am glad I did. It was a very positive experience from the 1st phone call (thank you, Erica) to when I picked our dogs up. One dog is a solitary rescue, only interested in my husband; while the other is a playful goldendoodle who enjoyed the daycare option. My dogs were upset & nervous (& in need of baths) when they arrived. They were happy to be picked up- but it was clear that they had been well cared for (& bathed). Chris Cowie is a real dog whisperer! We were looking for someone to dog sit our new puppy and older dog and on incredibly short notice Chris said yes -and we have now joined the Dogtown family! He was just wonderful with both dogs and gave me so much great advice for my new puppy. We will now be boarding with him while we're getting married and maybe during the honeymoon too! Just had our first boarding experience with Dog Town and it was fabulous. We have a lot of trouble leaving our Yorkie anywhere because she suffers from severe separation anxiety and also has allergies and other medical issues. She has no issues with other dogs at all but needs constant attention from humans to feel at ease. Checking in was a breeze. The staff was very attentive and listened carefully at the medication and feeding instructions. The other thing we liked was that all of the staff were clearly dog people. We're often surprised at how often that isn't the case with veterinary practices, grooming facilities or even dog walkers. Lucy stayed for two nights over this Labor Day weekend. We just picked her up and she was excited to see us but was in good spirits. She wasn't shaking or frightened and she didn't even stink of other dogs. Another thing to point out is that their prices are very reasonable for what they offer in comparison with other cage-free facilities in the surrounding NY/CT area and are actually about half that of Manhattan prices. We are very pleased with Lucy's stay and will definitely go back to Dog Town next time we're in the area. read more

We dropped two of our dogs off to Dog Town because we were going out of town for a wedding. We usually use the Hydrant Hotel but they were booked. We chose Dog Town because we thought they were associated with the Hydrant Hotel in Riverhead, which is not the case. It appeared to be mass confusion when we dropped our dogs off and we didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling. Upon pick up of our dogs, the owner was checking us out and asked if we wanted the dogs in two separate kennels. I asked him where the dogs stayed for the past 2.5 days because he seemed confused. We paid for separate play time for 3 days so the dogs would be safe from other dogs. When we got home, my youngest dog was injured and she would not put her rear leg down, the Vet said she had a sprain. It's easy for dogs to be injured but we were not told of the injury because they either didn't pay close enough attention or tried to hide it. Either way, not a good situation. Most people think of their animals as their children, I would not leave my dogs there under any circumstances, even if it meant staying at home with them. read more

I've used Dog Town since they've opened and have always found the staff to be cheerful and helpful. And that's why it pains me greatly to write this review. I have an older dog who is not chronically ill but is prone to injury due to arthritis. I boarded him for eight nights and he was returned to me this morning in great pain, yelping and barely able to move. On further probing I found out his medication had not been administered. I had left specific instructions on what needed to be done, and to isolate him if he got hurt. I also left a phone number to be used in the event there were questions or if there were problems. The instructions were returned to me in his bag when I picked him up. I was not contacted even though my dog had obviously been suffering. It pains me to think of how many days my dog may have been suffering unnecessarily. I found the staff both on drop-off and pick-up to be young, listless and unempathetic. The woman at the register sheepishly told me that they would call me in a few days to see how my dog was doing. Hardly a consolation. I spent over $500 thinking my dog would be well cared for and now have to nurse him back to health. While I support most neighborhood businesses, I will caution dog owners in Southold Town to pay special attention. Dogs of advanced age with special needs should not be brought here. read more

I had a great experience with Dog Town. They took my dog for an overnight boarding on very short notice, and when I was running late getting there they stayed open to receive me. I did have to pay extra for this but it was a life-saver. The owner is super friendly. My dog came back happy and tired. I would definitely use Dog Town again. read more

Not knowing anyone in the area; I found Dog Town online. I spoke to Anthony on the phone the night before to set up the overnight boarding of my 2 Cairn Terriers. He was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the dogs and what to expect. He even went so far as to help me with suggestions about my logistical problems getting to NYC the next day. There are a few times in life when you meet someone or a place and feel like you and your girls (dogs) belong. It's an intuitive feeling. This is such a place. I felt off the charts great about leaving my dogs there. Not something I have ever felt anywhere, outside my family before. Anthony and his staff were super positive and up beat with not only my dogs, but with me. I was actually having an unbelievably bad day when I dropped them off. Anthony went over the top to help me out. I always say, when bad things happen that's when you find out who people really are. They turned my bad day into a good one. I boarded my girls overnight and they were not as comfortable as I was going in, but coming out they were not "desperate" to see me like they usually are when I pick them up from other boarders. They were enjoying the staff and happy to see me at the same time. With such over the top care you would expect over the top prices, but to my surprise they were completely reasonable. If you were to survey 100 dogs if they would rather visit a house made out of maple flavored bacon or Dogtown...99 would rather visit Dogtown. The one who would rather go to the bacon house obviously suffers from being a bit confused so we will have to allow for that. Either way you want to slice it, Dogtown is literally, for the dogs. And I mean that in the best possible manner. When you bring your best friend and companion to this canine mecca, you will be pleased on all fronts. Whether you are just stopping by for some high quality eats and snacks, a grooming, a daycare stay, or an overnight boarding experience at Hotel D'Pooch, you will be delighted with all aspects of your experience. The staff and specialists at Dogtown literally treat your animal as if it were their own. They take the time to bond with your dog in a manner that rivals any facility of its kind. These are not simply four-legged fur balls to them. These are clients with individual personalities that they take the time to learn and cater to regardless of breeding, size, or pedigree. Your animal could not be in better hands if for only an hour or weeks on end. The facility is staffed 24 hours a day 365 days in the year. Your dog is never left alone and the extraordinary level of care that he/she receives on that first day is the same level he/she will receive years in the future. My dogs have been attending daycare and have been boarded there since they were puppies and their excited demeanor and whiplash tail action is all I need to see to assure me that my opinion of Dogtown is on the money. Dogtown- LOVE LOVE LOVE we had an amazing experience at Dogtown! My family had the opportunity to go to England for the summer and looked high and low for the best fit possible for our boxer. We live in Massachusetts and chose this particular facility all the way in Long Island for several reasons. First the people are outstanding! They really care for your dog and have an extensive knowledge of the animals and their needs. The owners Anthony and Rebecca have really put the time and effort into their staff. They made us feel really comfortable and would send us texts & emails with videos and pictures. As for the facility itself it is extremely clean and well run so the dogs have great play time with other doggy friends. Our pup became a local for the summer and was well loved. When I picked him up he looked amazing. Healthy and most importantly happy! The incredible Dogtown staff was flexible and worked with our unique schedule and needs. I hope anyone who needs extended stay for their dog chooses dogtown. You will not be disappointed. We are just waiting for them to open a branch in Boston! read more

I just read that very negative review about poor dog care for an elderly dog. I too have been using DogTown since they opened. I had a very old, deaf, blind very unfriendly cocker . He also toward the end had a very nasty tumor growing in his mouth which bled constantly. My dog Shamus was always welcome there. Treated with tremendous love and care. And I honestly believe all of them felt almost as bad as I did, when it came time to put him down. Both Shamus, and my new dog hate to be groomed, and certainly have given Heather more than her fair share of grief. My dogs have always been returned to me happy and loved, never ever traumatized . If you feel your dog is in such special need of attention for medical problems, it should have been boarded at a vets. Of course the vets lock the doors and go home leaving animals unattended at night. There is somebody at Dog Town 24/7. Please anybody else who loves this place--- write a review. I went in to check this place out - I have 3 active dogs and doggie day care is just what i need - I intended to bring all 3 in two or three times a week depending on how it went ... I met and spoke to the owners. I brought one of my dogs with me to see how she reacted to the people I talked to - they virtually ignored her - didn't look at her - or pet her once .....they basically preached to me their beliefs on dog food and medical care, explained the facility to me, avoided answering some questions I asked, focused on the cost .....all of which would have been fine but never acknowledged the dog once .....i have used many other doggie day cares and the owners or caregivers when meeting my animals pet them, acknowledged them, talked about their disposition ......not these people - no acknowledgement of the dog even being there. To me that speaks volumes .......and their loss as I would have been a huge customer. The North Fork needs a good doggie day care with dog lovers, not those in the business to make a few bucks. read more

I also had a problem there when boarding my dog although not to the extent as Andy. I do agree with Andy that the staff watching the boarded dogs are young (which is ok), but they don't seem to care. I also have a problem with going there to buy food or treats for my dog. They are always very preachy and trying to tell you not to give your dog flea/tick spot on treatments or heart worm medicine. They are anti-vet as well. They are condescending and act as if they know what is best for ALL dogs. My dog had severe allergic reactions to vaccinations and can no longer have any vaccinations so it would be irresponsible for me not to use some type of spot treatment for my dog. They'll try to sell you an organic alternative, which really does not work. Only go here if you want someone to tell you how to feed and take care of your dog and make you feel like you're making the wrong choices all the time. read more

GREAT EXPERIENCE! I found out about Dog Town online and ended up calling and making a reservation for my two older German Shepherds. The were so friendly, thorough and professional. I asked a family member to stop by and check out Dog Town (I live out of state) and when they got there they had nothing but great things to say as well as about what they saw (everything from the attentiveness of the staff to the condition of the facility). A few times I emailed back and forth with the staff to ask questions and they were so helpful and friendly. When I dropped off the dogs I found the facility clean, calm (seriously!), pleasant and left the dogs there feeling really good. From all that I could tell they were taken care of very well at Dog Town and I have absolutely nothing negative to say whatsoever. I live out of state and was in town visiting family, but if I lived closer Dog Town would be my go-to. I know when I leave the dogs there next time I'm in town I can do so confident that they will be well cared for. Highly, highly recommend!!!!!! read more
