We took the 7-week introductory puppy course with instructor Brittany P. and it was a life saver. Brittany taught us how to control our puppy with techniques such as the quiet hold, zen activities, puppy socialization tactics to help with safety measures, and proper leash walking recommendations. This introductory class really helped us understand puppy behavior, how to course correct and integrate obedience training into our daily lives. Something ironic is that week #1 we had about 5 puppies and as every week passed, we ended up being the only group / puppy for the final 3 weeks so we basically got 1:1 attention! Not sure where / why others backed down but we still really appreciated all that Brittany was able to help us with. Her energy and enthusiasm for puppy obedience were outstanding. Within this puppy course, there are obedience steps you will learn in your training and then complete homework assignments where you will plug and play what you learned into your daily routine (IE: during outdoor walks, kennel time, feeding, sleeping, etc.) There is a generous parking lot on the side and there are two rooms within the building. I can only speak towards the top level as that is where my training was and the space felt very clean considering how many dogs visit each day. My understanding of the basement room is that it is used for agility training but I am sure you can confirm this on the website. We had so much fun that we will probably return for level 2 training. We just finished up Tracking Level One and Level Two. All the instructors we have had I have thoroughly enjoyed. They are volunteers who have a strong passion for dogs and training. Jane & Rhonda were the tracking instructors who have extensive knowledge in what it takes to pass a test. My dog loves following scent trails! My son and I volunteered at an agility trial not knowing what to expect. It was super fun and we learned a lot about the sport. There is always something going on at the club!

The homework and techniques have been helpful in teaching my dog some foundational work. I believe TCOTC is also a popular location for brining dogs who want to learn agility. I do think the trainers get paid for the classes they lead, but it almost seems like they are all volunteers and there for the love of helping other dogs. I do feel the classes are helpful, but I also think there is some heavy overlap between classes - even though you are told to take some of them in a specific order.

I cannot recommend Northstar Family K9 enough!…read more Doug came to me as a foster, and from the very beginning, I knew he was going to need some extra help. He had already been returned twice before coming into rescue, and the thought of putting him up for adoption and having him experience another return honestly terrified me. Doug was an anxious puppy who lacked confidence, struggled with severe separation anxiety, and was incredibly leash reactive. And when I say reactive, I mean he would lunge up and down like a tiger and was nearly impossible to calm down. As his foster, I became very attached to him. I wanted him to find his forever home, but I was so nervous about adopting him out and having him returned again. He deserved stability, and I couldn't bear the thought of him going through another failed placement. That's when we decided Doug needed more support, and he spent 4 weeks at Northstar Family K9 for their board-and-train program. I'll be completely honest sending him away was HARD. But the team at Northstar made the entire experience so much easier. Milo, Julia, Emma, and Hank made it feel like Doug was at a second home. The daily report cards and videos were amazing. I never felt completely disconnected from him. I could see his progress, know how he was doing, and feel like I was still a part of his journey even while he was away. We also got to go in for training sessions, which I absolutely loved because they weren't just training Doug they were teaching us how to continue working with him when he came home. And the transformation has been incredible. Doug is a completely different dog. He has confidence. He's calmer. He has tools to work through situations that previously overwhelmed him. And most importantly, I now feel confident sending him to his forever home. As a foster, that is everything to me. I don't want to just find a dog a home. I want to feel confident that the home is going to be their forever home especially for a dog who has already experienced the heartbreak of being returned twice. Thanks to Northstar, Doug is now getting adopted, and for the first time, I can let him go to his forever family without that same fear in the back of my mind that he'll be returned again. Northstar didn't just train Doug. They gave him confidence, gave him tools, and gave me confidence in his future. I truly cannot recommend Northstar Family K9 enough. Wow! These guys are the best. My boyfriend and I were going to Duluth for a short weekend get away,…read morewhich is difficult for us to do with a special needs animal. Our senior cat has diabetes and needs to be fed and receive insulin injections on a pretty strict schedule (every 12 hours), and finding friends who were both available for the whole weekend and comfortable giving shots proved to be difficult. We found Twin Cities Pets through an online search and were ecstatic to see that they had prior experience with insulin injections and came to your home. A lot of other pet sitting or boarding services said that they will administer medication, but not injections, so this was lucky and we were so glad we didn't have to board him somewhere, which basically sound like cat jail. Marea came over and met with my boyfriend to pick up our spare key and learn about our cat's routine. We also have a bunny and a few tortoises, and she said she was happy to check on them as well. Marea sent us email updates letting us know everyone was doing A-OK, and we were able to enjoy our vacation with peace of mind knowing that our pets were in great hands. The cost was comparable or maybe even cheaper than boarding, and I know that our cat was much happier staying in his own home and familiar environment. We will definitely be using Twin Cities Pets the next time we go out of town and I would highly recommend them to any other friends in the area.
