Old church at night

We did the Ghost bus. We had a great time on the tour. It's kind of funny and corny and doesn't take itself too seriously. What I like about ghost tours is the history and the tall tales of mischief and mayhem. It's a cool double decker bus -- the top area is closed in so you can hear and see your guide who is an actor with some scary stories as you travel to a few haunted spots. He was great! Just roll with the cheesy comedy and you will have fun. If you are looking for serious scares or lots of morbid history with a more academic approach, this isn't the tour for you. By the way, the first floor of the bus is a haunted house. There will be a jump scare as you enter. Embrace it. It's fun.

We had a great time on this. We started with the tour of Malahide and Howth- what a fantastic day. I believe our guides name for that was Declan- and he was fabulous! I loved all the comments and history. It was a superb trip all the way around- and the tour at the castle was great as well. Malahide was much more interesting than I realized- 800 years in the same family! Part of it built in the 12th century- pretty amazing. There's a cafe, an Avoca and some other shopping opportunities there. You can also rent peddle cars as well as picnic on the extensive grounds. After Malahide we went to Howth- we had an hour and a half at the castle and an hour in Malahide. Could we have used more time? Sure- but an hour was ok. With the price of the Malahide/Howth tour we got to ride the hop on hop off bus on the same day (we were back at 4pm and just hopped right on the hop on hop off)- and THAT was great too!! Anthony was very funny and I truly enjoyed his commentary. He is also super helpful. We did the whole circuit to get a better idea of the layout of the city. But wait- there's MORE. We also were given the option to take a street tour the day following our trip- and isn't that cool? I was really very pleased with this company- definitely got value for my money and everyone was super nice. On the advice of other Yelpers- we sat downstairs so we could hear better. Also, we bought our tickets at the office- and we had a 5 dollar off coupon from some cards we found at the GPO. If you save your ticket stub you can also get 5 dollars off your next tour- if you decide to book another with this company.

Highly recommend seeing Dublin from the top of a Do Dublin bus! Enjoy the "Irish Air conditioning" as you learn about Dublins past and present from their live tour guides, they also offer pre-recorded bus tours in multiple languages. We enjoyed a great afternoon with our guide Paddy who was knowledgeable and brought the Irish craic of course!

Dublin's Hop On Hop Off Bus

Jet lag got the best of me when I arrived in Dublin because I was sitting next to a bulbous man who just wouldn't move his pudgy arm from our shared armrest. He was determined to seize ownership of it for the full duration of the flight. Since I was faced with a mother with a screaming baby on the other side of me, I was a near-zombie when I arrived early in the morning at my hotel. Staggering toward O'Connell Street, I took note of the green Dublin Hop On Hop Off Bus parked at its first stop at Cathal Brugha Street. Even though I only had large Euro bills and the young driver didn't have any change, he let me on board for free. What a lovely way to be welcomed to Ireland. The ticket price is actually € 18 for a two-day pass, which I paid when I hopped on again after my complimentary trip, and the fare is well worth it since it makes 24 stops over the course of a couple of hours. It's a family-friendly operation since they allow two kids under 14 to ride for free with each adult. Because most of Dublin's high points are centrally located around the Liffey River, this is definitely the way to cram it all if you are indeed pressed for time. Thanks to the convenience of this bus, I was able to hop off at must-stops such as Trinity College, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Guinness Storehouse, and Kilmainham Gaol with little fuss since a bus comes around every fifteen minutes. The drivers are naturally chatty, and some manage to sing a few bars of "Molly Malone" after passing by her statue at the foot of Grafton Street. Take note the buses do stop at 5PM, so time your trips accordingly. Also be aware a lot of the museums are closed on Mondays, so don't bother hopping off those stops. The friendly driver will likely tell you that in a lilting brogue. No advance booking is necessary.

Note: all my recent vacation in Ireland Yelp reviews will have the same 1st paragraph preamble, for just the review itself skip to the 2nd paragraph. On a whirlwind 2 week vacation to Ireland, the girlfriend & I tried to see & experience absolutely as much of this incredible land as we could. We did not accomplish every last activity we wished we could have on our rather ambitious itinerary. Nonetheless, we did discover a land of numerous stunning & magical wonders. We did see a land of unending natural beauty. We did learn of a land with a monumentally long history of trials, tragedies & triumphs. We did get to meet many kind, humorous, warm & generous people. Our vacation to Ireland was just 2 weeks, but that was time enough to know this is a land easy to love & a land to be sorely missed. For anyone who has never been to Dublin before, the Dublin Bus Tour is a fantastic introduction to the city & its history. Renting, driving & parking a car in Dublin can be a pain, so new in town or not, this is still a good way to get around to many of the city's attractions. Hop off & hop back on again as you like + the tickets are good for a full 24 hours. Anything missed the 1st day can still be explored the next morning. For the tour the girlfriend & I went on, the driver was absolutely hilarious with his insightful commentary. Thank you Manus for the tickets. We enjoyed the tour of your lovely city immensely.

He sang a song or 2 along the way but he couldn't answer any of the questions asked and barely spoke. He dropped us at stops going in blindly. He was an older gentleman, so I understand the low energy but perhaps time to hang up his hat. As first timers to Ireland, I chose the Dark Hedges/Giants Causeway/Belfast tour because I was infatuated by photos of the Dark Hedges I saw online. I had no idea it looked NOTHING like it. It was really a waste of a stop. Giants Causeway was nice.. great photo op. It's a long walk downhill, then back up. Luckily, there was a bus that operates both ways for £1 (tap cards accepted ). We heard there was opihi in Belfast and found some along the way (we're from Hawaii). Super windy that day so we were getting flown all over the rocks. Only stop on the tour that was worth it. Next stop, Belfast City Centre. The tour guy dropped us off near City Hall with absolutely no direction. He told us about a mall nearby, but that's it. Anything worth seeing was already closed. I really wished he would've gave us more recommendations about what to do, where to eat, or anything worth seeing in the short amount of time we had there. After walking around City Hall, we walked to the mall to use the bathroom, stopped at a souvenir shop, then headed back. Total waste of time, again. 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND! Sadiy, I purchased the tickets for this tour after the price had gone up about €10 from their 2025 prices. Tour was also supposed to end at 8pm but we got back by 7pm because he kept rushing us. Leaving early from stops. Felt rushed the whole time. I feel it was a total waste of money that could've been used elsewhere.

Ever had high tea in a bus, whilst driving around a city? Neither had we, until this trip!…read more We've made a habit of high tea when traveling and this was easily the most unique experience we've had. It was the perfect amount of fancy and a little hillbilly feeling - a unique delightful combination! The bus is from the 60s and is totally decked out to look like a tea room. It's something peppa pig would ride on of and when she visits the Isle! The teas, coffee and juices were quite nice. We enjoyed some "Nosecco" (Non alcoholic prosecco) as part of ours and were quite happy with the purchase. There were half a dozen tea choices as well as Cadbury hot chocolate, which we all liked. Everything had a screw on lid in a cup we got to keep so there was minimal spillage and maximum memories! The selection of finger sammys, tea cakes and accouterments was quite nice. The passion fruit and mango mousse was the biggest crowd pleaser from the desserts, and the scones were as good as advertised- someone's mom taught them well....or the Irish equivalent of bisquick is solid! The tour took us around the city and while we don't remember a ton, we got an idea of some of the main spots to see, and learned that no one know why the doors around town are painted fun colors - perhaps it's just because they're fun! This was a great, unique experience and it is well worth doing by yourself, with friends or with a big group!

We started in Dublin made our way to Waterford, Cork, Limerick to Galway and back to Dublin. The Butler's bus was comfortable, spacious, and provided ample seating for everyone to spread out. Our drivers name was Peadar Homan, and he was an absolute delight. He was friendly and extremely knowledgeable on the history of Ireland, the people, the culture, and it's architecture. He was very professional, punctual, willing to work with our special requests, and provided recommendations for the group. Often times going out of his way to help make our trip seamless and enjoyable. The company refused to cancel the tour, citing their cruise policy only applies if the cruise does not disembark at all. With their refusal to cancel and no reduced fee for the tour, despite the fact it was a 3 hour tour instead of the day trip planned, going to none of the stops that were on the itinerary, I can confidently state this is not a cruise friendly company, nor a customer oriented one. Although it isn't the guides fault (or ours), our guide took us to a little town where virtually everything is closed. A reputable tour company does not do this. Everyone knows that a good tour company is one that understands a win-win is possible in these circumstances (more than one win-win option available in these circumstances), but greed took over for Butlers. Highly avoid!

The drivers are knowledgeable, offering bits of history as you go from stop to stop. Whether it was century old speculation on Charles Parnell's love life, or the very real and sad, yet also heroic ones of the Easter Rising of 1916, we couldn't get enough. One of the best recommendations we received, was on local Trinity Prof Micheál Ó Siochrú's book on Olive Cromwell in Ireland. I would highly recommend "God's Executioner". As our guide pointed out, Cromwell spent only nine months in Ireland, so it's hard to blame him for everything. For us the only down side to CityScape was the apparent lack of buses, compared to it's competition. We too, sat outside the Guinness Storehouse, as other Yelp'ers have noted, while buses went by. And yes, our driver went inside to, er, pickup additional passengers. LOL. It's all part of the charm of Dublin. Enjoy!

It also did not follow the route to to the Zoo the next morning and rather went down the Quay towards the City Center while my husband and I waited on Parkgate. (it was supposed to hit parkgate after the zoo) I was stuck on the bus for 30 minutes while they changed shifts. Another 10 minutes sitting at another stop because he apparently was driving too fast to the next stop. His monologue consisted of snarky comments about big businesses in Ireland avoiding taxes and the waste of taxpayer money on the millennial tower. Finally, and maybe it's because I am a 'new' tourist, there are, I think THREE hop on and hop off services. They do NOT accept each other's fares. When we bought this at the KIOSK there was NO warning that not all Hop ons and Hop offs are alike. Buyer beware!

Michael somehow got us everywhere in record time without it ever feeling rushed, which meant we had more time at each stop. On a 12-hour day, that matters. Huge credit to him for making the logistics feel effortless. Aaron was the real glue of the experience. He actually knew what he was talking about and didn't just recite facts -- he added personality, humor, and context that made everything stick. When you're spending that long together on a bus, the vibe is everything, and he nailed it. We lucked out with amazing weather at the Cliffs -- cold, but crystal clear visibility. We hit both viewing areas (even with restoration work going on), and it still felt expansive and worth every second. Pictures don't do it justice. Galway was a blast. We had about two hours in the city center, which was enough to explore, grab food, and soak up the energy -- though honestly, I could've stayed all day. The recommendations we got were spot on. The pacing was great, the bus was as comfortable as it realistically can be for a full-day tour, and it never felt chaotic or disorganized. I would 100% recommend this to first-time visitors to Ireland and honestly even to people coming back who want a seamless, well-run way to see the west coast without thinking about logistics.
