I have not been able to find any good wine tastings in the Castle Rock area, so I decided to try the next best thing, which was to go to a knowledgeable wine dealer and ask them for some recommendations based on me telling them what I like. Dodds Wine Vault did a great job for me. They gave me four recommendations. All of them were in the strike zone for what I was looking for, and I ended up buying a case of the one I liked best. We love going to Wine Vault but we had the most incredible experience with Jay tonight. My fiance bought a bottle of champagne for our wedding next week and there was a slight smudge on the bottle and we wanted to keep this after the wedding. I called to see if I could exchange the bottle and they not only said absolutely but they hand delivered and exchanged the bottle to our house. Regardless of the delivery: YOU COMMITED TO MY ORDER IN WRITING. SEE SAID EMAIL... Nice try squirreling out of this. Just take accountability. Pathetic. Update to my prior 5-Star review: Ordered my typical delivery with an expectation of a 1-2 day turnaround and rec'd a personal reply from Owner that he was on it... 1st day goes by, and nothing: no word from them nor my delivery. 2nd day goes by, and STILL nothing: no word from them nor my delivery. Late eve of the 2nd day I emailed the owner and said not to bother with my delivery. Following day I receive a 'thanks' from the owner but NOT any sense of accountability or explanation for the screw up or any ounce of an apology. Wait, what? What company doesn't at least acknowledge their screw up, OR atleast try to make the sitch better? This is the best private, small-business, liquor store I have found in the metro area. They always have high-end, hard to find bottles of wine, champagne, and whiskey. Even the beer cooler is stocked with an amazing selection. The problem is walking out without buying everything. read more

Stopped in at 6:35 for a 4-7 p.m. wine tasting. There were wine reps introducing wine to the owner, which made it appear like a tasting was still happening, although it wasn't. The owner told us that the shop was closed because they had no customers. The reps (who were not employed by the store) were amused that we came from Leadville for a wine tasting--while they were standing around drinking wine. However, the rest of the story: We contacted the owner, Mr. Dodds, who told us that they they have not had tastings at that time for some time and apologized for the behavior of the wine reps. I checked the source of my information about the tasting (which I had found on my phone enroute) and found that it was indeed more than a year old and was posted by the shopping center, not the Wine Vault. Mr. Dodds was very friendly. We told him that we had visited and loved Ruby Trust wines, and turns out he owns that, too. He even offered to take us out for a beer when he is in Leadville. It makes sense to contact an owner directly--it turned out I was also in error. (But yes, the shopping center really should change the post about the wine tastings.) read more

My husband and I stopped in last weekend while driving around; we are always looking for a new place with a fine wine room to peruse. This place was wonderful! The owner (Brayden) is an absolute pleasure to deal with. I am fairly new to the world of fine wines, and he answered every question I had with the utmost courtesy and understanding. Not once did I feel like he was looking down at me due to my "inexperience". My husband and I are headed to Napa (my first trip) and he gave us the names of a couple of wineries we would have never found on our own. The best part- he has some amazing wines for unbeatable prices! I highly recommend this little gem if you are looking for the higher end wines that can be a little more difficult to find. I stopped by here while I was on vacation and was very impressed! The owner was very helpful in my decision making and lead me in the direction of picking a wine my friends feel in love with (and the best part was, they could afford to buy it again!) the place is located in a darling center and their selection was fantastic! This place is under new management. I recently stopped in and the staff was very helpful I was able to pick up 2 bottles of vino Verde for a great price. Gone is the former snotty uppity management. Good wine selection with a variety of prices too but only a few beers. read more

Extremely knowledgable and offering a bewildering variety of wines for any occasion and budget, this is a can't miss wine shop. Ruby Trust is rapidly becoming a 'cult wine' classic in CO.
